The Dominican University Ibadan is a tertiary institution at Samonda, Ibadan of Oyo State, Nigeria.[1][2]
The Dominican University Ibadan is a private university in Oyo State, Nigeria. It was established to provide quality education to residents of the Oyo State metropolis and Nigeria beyond.[3]
History
[edit]The Dominican University Ibadan was established in 2016 by the Order of Preachers (Dominican Order of the province of St. Joseph the Worker, Nigeria and Ghana) under the Catholic Higher Education to be an institution of higher learning in Nigeria.[4][5]
It was licensed by the National Universities Commission (NUC) on 22 November 2016 through a letter addressed to the then Vice Chancellor, Prof. Anthony Akinwale.[6][7]
The university was operating as an institute awarding bachelor's degrees in Philosophy affiliated with the University of Ibadan since 1993 until its accreditation.[8][4]
Prof. Jacinta A. Opara was appointed in 2024 as the first female and second substantive Vice-chancellor of the university [9][10]

Programmes
[edit]The university runs bachelor's degree programs, Masters in Arts Program and Higher National Diploma Conversion programmes. Some of the programmes includes;
Bsc Accounting, Bsc Chemistry, BSc economics, BSc Computer Science, BSc Religious Studies, Bsc Business Administration, Bsc Mass Communication, BA Philosophy, MA Philosophy, and MPC Philosophy and Computing.
Activities
[edit]The university had its first and Second Combined Convocation Ceremony in December, 2022. The event was graced by the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party Nigeria, Mr Peter Obi who is also the Pro-Chancellor of the university. Governor Seyi Makinde, the Ooni of Ife and the Olubadan of Ibadan were in attendance at the ceremony.[12][13]
The university library is one of the academic libraries in Nigeria. The university graduated 96 students for the 2020/2021 academic Session and 49 students for the 2021/2022 academic sessions respectively.[14][1]
