English: Asbury Dwellings located at 7th Street and Rhode Island Avenue, NW in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Constructed in 1902, the building was first known as McKinley Technical High School (white students only). In 1928, the building became home to Shaw Junior High School (black students only). Alma Thomas is one of several noted individuals who taught at the new school. By 1977, the student population forced the school to construct a new facility, located two blocks from their former location. Asbury Methodist Church purchased the school building and began a five-year renovation project. The property was converted into a senior citizen housing complex called Asbury Dwellings. In December 2008, the building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
