Description
English: Postcard of Elliott Bay and the Seattle waterfront; at right is the Pacific Coast Co. dock (a.k.a. Lilly Bogardus Dock), ca. 1906 (this is from a 1907 postcard). In the background is the Washington Hotel (earlier known as the Denny Hotel) atop Denny Hill. Shortly after this photo was taken, the hotel was demolished and that portion of the hill was regraded.

The five piers visible in the foreground here, left to right:

  • Pier 2, known after May 1, 1944 as Pier 51. Torn down early 1980s to expand the Washington State Ferries terminal at Pier 52 (Colman Dock).
  • Pier 1, known after May 1, 1944 as Pier 50. Torn down early 1980s to expand the Washington State Ferries terminal at Pier 52 (Colman Dock).
  • Pier A, known after May 1, 1944 as Pier 49. Shortened before 1944; in the circa 1970 remodeling of Pier 48 the over-the-water part was demolished; the land portion behind the bulkhead was incorporated into Pier 48.
  • Pier B, known after May 1, 1944 as Pier 48. The pier shed was demolished in 2010; the pier itself is still extant 2023.
  • Pier C, known after May 1, 1944 as Pier 47. Similar fate to Pier A.
