Summary
[edit]Description | Portion of the fold-out map titled "The Troad: After Kiepert & Philippson with corrections by Walter Leaf" included in Leaf's translation and commentary titled "Strabo on the Troad", Cambridge, 1923. This excerpt is centered on the archaic and classical Greek city of Skepsis, its name rendered in red as are other ancient locations on the map. The orthogonal portions of the latitude and longitude scales from the edges of the complete map (i.e., 39° 30' - 40°N and 26° 30' - 27°E) are copied to the edges of this excerpt to identify the coordinates of Skepsis. Leaf (p. 270) credits (Walther?) Judeich with clarifying Strabo's confusion about the location of Skepsis when he found an inscription with a proxeny decree by the town of Skepsis in situ. |
