Description
In the foreground, at the intersection of the Moika and the Nevsky Prospect, the Politseisky (Green) Bridge (built in 1720, rebuilt between 1806—8, designed by V. Geste) and the embankment (faced with granite between 1798—1810). Over the bridge, to the left, a portion of Stroganov's Palace (1752— 54, designed by B. F. Rastrelli); behind it, lateral wings and a stone-built encircling wall of K. Razumovsky's Palace (1762— 66, designed by A. Kokorinov and J.-B. Vallin de la Mothe), which housed the Foundling Hospital and the Female Or­phanage since 1798. To the right. General N. Chicherin's house (built between 1768—71 on the site of the pulled-down timber-built Winter Palace of Empress Elizabeth, which was designed by B. F. Rastrelli in 1755).
