Jennifer Marie Short (born 1970/1971) is a United States Air Force lieutenant general who has served as the senior military assistant to the secretary of defense since October 2024. She most recently served as the legislative liaison of the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force. She previously served as the deputy director for strategic planning and policy of the United States Indo-Pacific Command.[1][2][3][4]

Military career

In May 2022, Short was nominated for promotion to major general.[5] In July 2024, she was nominated for promotion to lieutenant general and assignment as the senior military assistant to the secretary of defense.[6][7]

Personal life

She is the third person in her family to ascend to the general officer ranks in the Air Force. Her late father, Michael Short, retired from the Air Force in 2000 at the rank of lieutenant general. Her brother, Christopher M. Short, retired in 2019 at the rank of brigadier general.[8]

Short married Scott Evens on October 23, 2010.[9]
