Klinkowström

Coat of arms of the Counts von Klinkowström

The Klinkowström family or Klinckowström is a noble house of German origin with Prussian-Austrian and Swedish branches.[1][2]

History

[edit]

The family probably originated from Klinkow near Prenzlau, Germany. They held positions in the city of Stralsund, such as Joachim Klinkow serving as its mayor from 1559 to 1599. Members of the family that served in Sweden were first raised to hereditary nobility in 1678.[1][2] Some of their descendants who relocated to Prussia were given the title of Count by King Frederick William III on 17 July 1798 . The family had several lines: noble, baronial and countly line.
