Oedemera tristis is a species of beetle belonging to the family Oedemeridae subfamily Oedemerinae.

Description

Oedemera tristis can reach a body length of about 9–12 mm (0.35–0.47 in). It is an elongated insect with a soft, black body.^[1] Males have large, swollen posterior thighs (metafemurs).^{[citation needed]} The elytra are divergent at their ends and reveal the wings.^{[citation needed]}

Distribution and habitat

This species is present in most Europe.^[2] These insects live in meadows and forest edges.^{[citation needed]}

Byology and ecology

Oedemera tristis is phytophagous.^{[citation needed]} It feeds on nectar and pollen from the flowers of herbaceous plants (dandelions, buttercups, etc.).^{[citation needed]} The larvae are xylophagous. Adults can be found from April to August.^{[citation needed]}
