Sigli

Sigli city

Sigli is a town in Aceh province of Indonesia and it is the seat (capital) of Pidie Regency. Sigli is located 112 kilometers to the south of the capital of Aceh province, Banda Aceh.


History

In the 15th century, Sigli was a place purposed for connecting economical routes with the Bugis, and purposed as a stopover for bringing supplies and goods when China or Ming Dynasty in that time, needed one.

Then continues, with foreign nations coming, such as Netherlands, Portugal and, United Kingdom. The Aceh War would start and continue for a long time, and Netherlands successfully took Aceh somewhere on the 24th of January 1874. As well as the sultan, Sultan Alauddin Mahmud Syah or known as Sultan Alauddin Mahmud Syah II died on 28th of January 1874.

Persatuan Sepakbola Aceh Pidie is the football club from Sigli.

Sigli has a tropical monsoon climate (Am) with moderate rainfall from February to September and heavy rainfall from October to January.
