Template talk:North American Game

Collapse

[edit]

Most of the articles this template is used on only briefly mention hunting or in many cases don't mention it at all (instead focusing on the animals and their habitat, behaviours, environmental concerns, feeding and mating habits, etc.), making this template only tangentially related to the text. For this reason, this template should be collapsed by default. The few hunting specific articles that use this template can add the attribute "state = expand" when calling the template if the editors of those articles want it to expanded. Those who are interested in these articles are interested in appearance, behaviors, and habitats. That sections on hunting are incpomplete or absent does not detract from the usefulness of such navigation boxes. I disagree with you, but to solicit other opinions, I just made the same change you made here to Template:English Game. I will probably revert myself because, as I argue above, I disagree with you. If those who are interested in these articles are interested in appearance, behaviors, and habitats, then how many people is this template really useful to? This list would probably serve Wikipedia better as a category "Game animals hunted in North America". Neitherday (talk) 02:04, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I came across this template on the Cougar article and found it completely useless. This template belongs on the hunting articles only, where it is very useful, and not on the article of the animal itself. --12 Noon  18:01, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
