Leaders

[edit]

I wonder if it should be made clear that the first three leaders listed here (namely Saunderson, Long and Edward Carson were leaders of the Irish Unionists (ie the Irish Unionist Alliance) rather than the Ulster Unionists. In Sir Edward Carson's case this is particularly significant as he declined to lead the Ulster Unionists and become the first Prime Minister of Northern Ireland in 1921 as he did not represent an Ulster seat, and indeed his article notes that "He didn't see himself as an Ulsterman and, unlike many northern unionists it is thought he had an emotional connection with Ireland as a single entity". Similarly Walter Long sat for South County Dublin when he was an MP in Ireland, rather than an Ulster seat. This perhaps we should star their names and note this indicates they were leaders of the Irish Unionists rather than their Ulster Unionist successors? Dunarc (talk) 22:48, 15 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
