Phi Iota Alpha

Citing sources
[edit]I have provided the source in the Fraternities and sororities article that was requesting the citation for Alpha Phi Alpha. You may view the way I added the source to add the one for Phi Iota Alpha. I also added the footnotes template to PIA which will automatically number the footnotes once you begin inputting your sources within the article. I added the first footnote for the North-American Inter-fratenity Council text. You should also view these templates {{cite web}}, {{cite book}}, {{cite news}} which provides formatting rules and good examples for inputing the specific source fields. Wikilink tip
[edit]It's only necessary to wikilink a word only once in an article; so, if you provide a link in the beginning of article, and then use the word at any other point, you don't wikilink the word a second time. For example, in the Symbols section of the PIA article, the words "fasces", and the colors such as azure or or are wikified each time they are mentioned. You should edit the entire article and remove any duplicate, triplicate, etc. links to bring it up to wiki standards. Ccson 04:50, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- You are using the "special piped syntax" when an article has parentheses after the main title for the [Secretary of State (U.S. state government)]. By adding the "w:" before the article title, you no longer need to place the good title "Secretary of State" after the "|", that's the purpose of special pipe synax. the field [or (helraldry)] also qualifies and so I changed this to [[Or (heraldry)|]], which still yields Or. You can reveiw the edit to see and I'll let you make any other changes to the article.
- the history section of PIA indicates you're making a lot "fixes to citation". You should use the Show Preview button before saving your changes to verify the accuracy. However; in order to see the changes, you must edit the entire article so that the Footnotes section shows. If you only edit the particular section, you will not be able to see the changes until you save, and that when you notice an error was made in the formatting.

[edit]Hi there,I have been looking for information on Phi Tau Alpha and Phi Kappa Alpha and I cant find any info at all, except in Phi Sigma web pages and Phi Iota web pages, and the only info they have is that one was in Mexico the other in Cuba, do you know is there is any other information of these organizations, where were their chapters located ext... thanks in advance
BTW can you take a look at Phi Sigma Alpha, and give me recommendations on how to improve the article, other than the fact that most of the notable members are red links hehe

Good article
[edit]There are several places where the text lacks citations and I have made note within the article for a couple of sections. Also, your text reads more like blunt statements rather than "brilliant prose", and it will probably need more copyediting before going for Featured Article. I attempted to rewrite the Expansion paragraph so you can see how I think you could combined several sentences into "brilliant prose". The first two sentences of the paragraph I left unchanged because I didn't know what to do with them. For example you could say "The attendance at the 1938 convention was evidence of PIA's expansion with chapters being represented from such states and countries as State, State, Country and Country." Wikis Take Manhattan

WHAT Wikis Take Manhattan is a scavenger hunt and free content photography contest aimed at illustrating Wikipedia and StreetsWiki articles covering sites and street features in Manhattan and across the five boroughs of New York City. The event is based on last year's Wikipedia Takes Manhattan, and has evolved to include StreetsWiki this year as well.
LAST YEAR'S EVENT

- Commons:Wikipedia Takes Manhattan/Gallery (our cool gallery)
WINNINGS? Prizes include a dinner for three with Wikipedia creator Jimmy Wales at Pure Food & Wine, gift certificates to Bicycle Habitiat and the LimeWire Store, and more!
WHEN The hunt will take place Saturday, September 27th from 1:00pm to 6:30pm, followed by prizes and celebration.
WHO All Wikipedians and non-Wikipedians are invited to participate in team of up to three (no special knowledge is required at all, just a digital camera and a love of the city). Bring a friend (or two)!
REGISTER The proper place to register your team is here. It's also perfectly possible to register on the day of when you get there, but it will be slightly easier for us if you register beforehand.
WHERE Participants can begin the hunt from either of two locations: one at Columbia University (at the sundial on college walk) and one at The Open Planning Project's West Village office. Everyone will end at The Open Planning Project:

WHAT Wikis Take Manhattan is a scavenger hunt and free content photography contest aimed at illustrating Wikipedia and StreetsWiki articles covering sites and street features in Manhattan and across the five boroughs of New York City.
LAST YEAR'S EVENT
- Wikipedia:Wikipedia Takes Manhattan/Fall 2008 (a description of the results, and the uploading party)
- Commons:Wikis Take Manhattan (our cool team galleries)
- Streetfilms: Wikis Take Manhattan (our awesome video)
WINNINGS? The first prize winning team members will get Eye-Fi Share cards, which automatically upload photos from your camera to your computer and to sites like Flickr. And there will also be cool prizes for other top scorers.
WHEN The hunt will take place Saturday, October 10th from 1:00pm to 6:30pm, followed by prizes and celebration.
WHO All Wikipedians and non-Wikipedians are invited to participate in team of up to three (no special knowledge is required at all, just a digital camera and a love of the city). Bring a friend (or two)!
REGISTER The proper place to register your team is here. It's also perfectly possible to register on the day of when you get there, but it will be slightly easier for us if you register beforehand.
WHERE Participants can begin the hunt from either of two locations: one at Columbia University (at the sundial on college walk) and one at The Open Planning Project's fantastic new event space nestled between Chinatown and SoHo. Everyone will end at The Open Planning Project:

[edit]I added back the "Coast to Coast" fact to the SLB article with two ammendments: a clarification that this achievement was after the 1975 Latino Greek lettered boom; and giving credit where it was due to Phi Iota Alpha as the first to accomplish it. - Another user took out the claim of being first to achieve "Coast to Coast". The current language reads "In 1992, SLB spans "coast to coast" with the establishment of SUNY-Stony Brook (Pi chapter) and California State University-Dominguez Hills (Tau Chapter)." As is, there is no need for the qualifier. This new language will also stop the "Edit war" of going back and forth. Regarding the "1921 and 1931" merger. I made the change since I also added Pi Delta Phi to the list of Defunct orgs. As I understand it, Pi Delta Phi merged with UHA and Pi Lambda Alpha in 1921. UHA is not in the list, it not being Greek. Do you want to paraphrase the footnote to account for the first merger? Dual Membership
[edit]Also on another note. Those NIC footnotes in List of Latino Greek Lettered Organizations are not relevant. From wikipedia's rules it's not relevant whether an org is a member of NIC also. NIC and NALFO have nothing to do with each other. Furthermore NIC is for fraternities only. While NALFO is a co-ed council. NYC Meetup: Saturday, December 4
[edit]Our next Wikipedia NYC Meetup is this weekend on Saturday Dec 4 at Brooklyn Museum during their awesome First Saturdays program, starting at 5 PM.
A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be 'Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968', and the accompanying "WikiPop" project, with specially-created Wikipedia articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.

You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our inaugural evening "WikiWednesday" salon and knowledge-sharing workshop by 14th Street / Union Square in Manhattan. We also hope for the participation of our friends from the Free Culture movement and from educational and cultural institutions interested in developing free knowledge projects.
