[edit]Monthly categories
[edit]Hey there - when tagging a maintenance category that's empty (i.e., "uncategorized from Dec 2009"), it's best to tag the page with {{db-g6}} instead of {{db-c1}}. C1 requires the template to stay on the category for 4 days before deletion, but since this is a monthly maintenance category and not a normal category, it can be deleted as soon as it's cleared, and G6 would speed up the process. [edit]Grab some glory, and a barnstar
[edit]Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the {{copyedit}} tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 14:36, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
You are now a Reviewer
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 04:45, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Hi
I placed a banner at the top of the page which asks not to edit the article as I was already in there editing it.
Are you part of the GOCE drive ?
Chaosdruid (talk) 04:57, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
- No problem - I was more worried that there were two editors from the GOCE drive that had "claimed" the article at the same time lol
- I have finished it. I raised the issues about ref needed and other problems on the Indai project page and User_talk:Sodabottle#Vellore was on it straight away :¬)
- If you are not part of the GOCE drive have a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Guild_of_Copy_Editors/Backlog_elimination_drives/July_2010
- THanks for giving me the time to do some work on it though if you were already part of the drive

Hi, just did a bit of a double-take when I saw your edit on my watchlist for this article. The "references" actually all point to parked web pages (of the same web hosting service) except for the one on NLSO_ADDRESS, which is still kind of sad. I don't know how versed you are in computer software, but the article seems to refer to an almost-proprietary concept in software development, especially since an implementation was pursued in a Pascal environment and within another library system. Anyway, I do think the article should have remained marked as unreferenced and an orphan (the latter was your addition). However, if you look at the talk page, you'll notice that we have even discussed putting this page up for deletion for failing WP:NOTABLE, as well as for lack of references (the fact that a key source in web form goes down would not cause the article to be removed if the topic itself was notable, and there would be sufficient third party references if it was sufficiently notable). Thanks –Paul M. Nguyen (chat|blame) 01:20, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Overcategorization?
[edit]Hi, I noticed that you categorized Emporius as French legal writer and as German scholar, while he was neither.
Looking briefly at your other recent categorizations, I see that you have also categorized Enrique Gatti (an Italian criminal) as "Art Brut albums" and "Debut album", while it seems no album with this title was ever made; Dimension (company) as "printing process", while the article is not about a process; and Design and Arts Arcadia of Myungseung as "apples" apparently simply because this hotel has an apple theme.
May I suggest that these are examples of Wikipedia:Overcategorization, and that it might be more helpful to our readers to use only categories that are directly pertinent to each subject? Thanks, Sandstein 05:29, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hmm. Alvin, I notice you did not respond to the above.. and after seeing that I took a look at your contribs more closely and I've seen some incorrect categorizations myself.. I hope I wasn't too hasty with that barnstar up there was I? I think maybe you might be trying to go too fast.. try slowing down a bit, consider each article carefully and what it's about, then choose the most applicable category possible.. It may take a little more effort but we'd rather have better quality categorization than an empty backlog and a slew of overcategorized articles.. it's more helpful to the readers if they can find the information they're looking for with efficiency. -- Ϫ 13:23, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

GOCE March drive wrap-up
[edit] Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! This is the most successful drive we have had for quite a while. Here is your end-of-drive wrap-up newsletter. Participation Of the 70 people who signed up for this drive, 40 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Special acknowledgement goes out to Lfstevens, who did over 200 articles, most of them in the last third of the drive, and topped all three leaderboard categories. You're a superstar! Stfg and others have been pre-checking the articles for quality and conformance to Wikipedia guidelines; some have been nominated for deletion or had some preliminary clean-up done to help make the copy-edit process more fun and appealing. Thanks to all who helped get those nasty last few articles out of the target months. Progress report During this drive we were successful in eliminating our target months—October, November, and December 2010—from the queue, and have now eliminated all the 2010 articles from our list. We were able to complete 500 articles this month! End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here. When working on the backlog, please keep in mind that there are options other than copy-editing available; some articles may be candidates for deletion, or may not be suitable for copy-editing at this time for other reasons. The {{GOCEreviewed}} tag can be placed on any article you find to be totally uneditable, and you can nominate for deletion any that you discover to be copyright violations or completely unintelligible. If you need help deciding what to do, please contact any of the coordinators. Thank you for participating in the March 2012 drive! All contributions are appreciated. [edit]Thanks for your edits to Category:Wikipedia backlog. I just wanted to express an interest in eventually getting a page like that established for WikiProject Medicine. In an ideal world, bots would keep project-specific backlog pages like that maintained. Do you have any ideas on what it would take to do these types of things? Spacing issue
[edit]Alvin... Good day. I notice that you do through quite a few articles (many of them after I've done c/e work on them) and get rid of unnecessary spaces. Is there a script you use to do this? Since I noticed your work, I've been attempting to be more diligent in being uniform, using a script I found online, but on the Sword of Sodan article, I noticed that you still uncovered some spacing issues, even after I used that other script. If I could, I'd like to alleviate your having to go in and make corrections... Onel5969 (talk) 14:33, 21 March 2014 (UTC)
