Help has arrived

[edit]

You wanted some help, here I am! How can I help you? You can ask your questions right here, and I will respond.--Commander Keane 22:56, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can help as well if you need anything.--Urthogie 22:58, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It won't be deleted, most likely(so far most wikipedians have voted to keep it). At this link[1], you can vote to keep, and explain your reasons why. Chances are they will give you advice on that page on how to improve the template-- which seems like a fair compromise that will both make it look better and encourage that its not suggested for deletion again. If you have any questions, just ask again as you did at my talk page. Cheers!--Urthogie 23:18, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about nominating that for deletion. --CFIF 02:08, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Templates

[edit]

(This is a response to your message on my talk page User_talk:CFIF#Future Templates)

Sinclair would be a great one, along with Gannett and Raycom. Just create them like you did before. Go to the corporate websites for the information on the important folks, and other Wikipedians will be glad to help you create one. If you want, you can create a sub-page for a work in progress by creating something like: User:WIKISCRIPPS2005/Gannett Template. --CFIF 02:42, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't remember how it was done and plus I'll be honest with you, I copied the "Disney" template and then proceeded to make the alterations...
I apologize if it sounds like cheating!!! --User:WIKISCRIPPS2005 21:51 EST Friday 03 February 2006 | 02:51 UTC Saturday 04 February 2006
That's ok........you can get help from some template experts. I'm not good with the coding and stuff, and I am a copier with some templates too, so you are not alone ;). --CFIF 02:55, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Media Ventures and Sinclair no longer own or operate the station. Their respective sites are outdated. Proof. --CFIF 21:08, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Uploads

[edit]

I have questions about certain images...

Please...

So what are your questions?--Commander Keane 03:06, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I guess you are talking about Image:WDWB2006.jpg. It seems fine to me, it has the correct licence. But Azumanga1 uploaded it. I can't see what your problem is.--Commander Keane 03:49, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The only problem with the image you uploaded (Image:WDWB2005.jpg) is that it isn't being used in any articles. Do you want me to delete it, since Image:WDWB2006.jpg has the correct name and is in use?--Commander Keane 04:08, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We can only keep one of the images. The licence says that it must be a low resolution image, but it doesn't say what low res is classified as. I'd just keep Azumanga1's image (it's low res) and let yours be deleted.--Commander Keane 04:23, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder

[edit]

Please look at the tv query for a tv station before titling the article. Some have the TV suffix some don't. Thanks. --CFIF 01:39, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that you asked CFIF on his talk page how you can find this out (or something to this effect). The best way is to check the fcc's database, it is always up to date and is the final say in if a TV station has a suffix like -TV. It can be found here: [2]. Or you can replace KABC with the callsign in this link: [3]. It will return all stations that use your search query in their callsign. If a station has xxxx-TV listed in bold, blue text, then the station has a -TV suffix, if it doesn't then the station does NOT have a -TV in the callsign and the article about that station should not have -TV in the name. If you still have questions about this, feel free to ask on the WP:TVS talk page. —A 06:41, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alot of stations that do not have a -TV callsign use -TV in their on-air and other promotional materials, and a TON use -DT incorectly (only 9 stations have -DT callsigns); but this doesn't change what their FCC callsign actualy is. Per Wikipedia naming convention, the FCC callsign is what we should use for the article name. Does this answer your question, or am I way off base? —A 19:36, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To add to this, stations which use "-TV" or "-DT" on the air (where those suffixes are not in their official call signs) are no different than those who call themselves "Fox 11" or "NBC 4". It is part of the stations' branding and identity, but at Wikipedia we have chosen to use official call signs because it is the best way to guarantee a unique name for every radio and TV station in North America. Also, in many cases, a station may use their call sign with "-TV" in some places and without it in others, but going to the offical call sign resolves this problem in a clear and unambiguous way. The colours for the CW page are:

Blue: R = 25 G = 54 B = 114

White: R = 255 G = 255 B = 255

I'll try to find the hex codes for them later on, but i know white is #FFFFFF.

The blue is #193672

Are you sure about the joint venture still being in effect? A check of the FCC records shows the license was transferred from Station Venture Operations (the old LIN partnership) to NBC in 2003. NBC got KNSD San Diego in the same transaction. Gridlock Joe 02:53, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, well you still haven't asked a question, but i'll talk about MIG. It's used to add a formatted external links entry to a page. For example in the external links section of WDIV-TV, the third external links is made by placing: wdiv, which looks like: wdiv. Naturally the template can only be used for www.michiguide.com - and really it's not that essential.--Commander Keane 02:22, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

as for the User:UBX/CW template, wouldn't it be more suited if the colours were inverted for the letters "CW"?

Canada doesn't use -LP suffixes; television stations in Canada use -TV regardless of whether they're full strength or low-power. Bearcat 15:47, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Concerning your recent edit to KTVD

[edit]

You should probably leave the rumored affiliations (MNTV) out of the infobox; it'll clog it up. I removed that, but kept your other addition to the article. -Whomp 22:25, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That may be true and I understand what you're trying to say -- but also keep in mind that it can't be fully guaranteed that the station will go completely independent when the affiliation is still up for grabs in the Denver market!!! --WIKISCRIPPS2K6 MON APR 24 2006 7:08 PM EDT
Well, it can't be fully guaranteed that it will be an affiliate, either. See wikt:tentative. This means it is uncertain. Better safe then sorry. -Whomp 21:52, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Scripps template

[edit]

You're clearly big on Scripps, and big on templates... but the redlinked list of unknown staff needs to be fleshed out. Think of them as states, it wouldn't be good if they were all red on election night... get some blue in there. Deizio 02:57, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well that may be true -- but you have to be able to know the people in charge of the operation... Am I right??? --WIKISCRIPPS2K6 MON MAY 1 2006 11:07 PM EDT

Of course. But knowing their name, and actually knowing (learning) something about them is very different. If I actually wanted to know something about any of them right now, I would have to go to an external site, the template would be useless. Deizio 03:25, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your edits to WLMT

[edit]

Unless you know something I do not, WLMT has not been announced as joining the CW just yet. Please hold off on making pronouncements of this sort without being backed up by reliable sources. Newspaper reports on the merger itself that ran shortly after its announcement do not count as they are often of a speculative nature. If you have information that a deal is in place, but it is unannounced, that is original research. Thank you. Morgan Wick 00:50, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your comment on KALB-TV

[edit]

You cannot own articles (WP:OWN), and the comment was way out of line. Plus, contact information is useless and unencyclopedic. Wikiepdia is not the station's website and if people want to find that stuff they can go to the station's website if they choose to do so. CFIF (talk to me) 20:36, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well... I wanted to give some details to the article -- I didn't want the page to be too short so I had any information that was available and plus there are other articles where such information exists -- and not of all of them I (personally) opened up... But what do you suggest that is reasonable??? --WIKISCRIPPS2K6 THU MAY 4 2006 8:24 PM EDT
Leaving it the way it is currently (w/o contacts). Not all articles are huge. CFIF (talk to me) 00:40, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Why did you add the comment on the top of the page? Also your changes added these redirects: VHF, UHF, kilowatts. Instead you can do this to avoid the redirects: VHF, UHF, kilowatts -Bogsat 17:43, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Especially just after I showed you the policy of WP:OWN. You can't own or possess articles. From the page "As each edit page clearly states: If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly or redistributed by others, do not submit it. [emphasis added]". Please stop adding relatively worthless info such as contact info and station management. --CFIF (talk to me) 20:44, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:WPTV.jpg)

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:WPTV.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that your image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If your image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why your image was deleted. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --WCQuidditch 18:50, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You recently re-added this image to WUPV after I had removed it. Changing a username is a change that currently can't be done via "My Preferences." It has to be done by a bureaucrat. I've listed your request at Wikipedia:Changing username. EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 04:40, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what you're trying to do - have you even seen my contributions and edit summaries? I'm NOT contesting you! No need to make this into something worthy of WP:LAME!

I simply reverted references to WQCW because those were not the calls in the FCC database at the time that I reverted them (which was fairly late on May 31, I might add). I don't see any need to post sources once they're in the database - certainly not on List of CW affiliates, where there isn't even any coverage of call sign changes. Morgan Wick 03:04, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, please keep in mind I'm only doing my job and what I saw when I went to the FCC website -- it was specified that the calls have changed!!! I kid you not!!! But I understand if you trying to say that it is still early to begin making the changes!!! But then again, I want to help make sure the pages are updated whenever necessary -- I apologize for any discomfort this may have caused you even though I too have a job to do!!! --WIKISCRIPPS 07 FRI JUN 2 2006 3:12 PM EDT
P.S. I had no choice but to react this way because I don't like to be treated in a way or be told that I'm providing false information when I have evidence to support my claim -- but nonetheless, no hard feelings!!!
You wrote "PLEASE WB ASAP!!!" in your edit summary, and I'm not sure why. There's not much for me to say. If you're saying that the FCC website actually said "calls have changed" on the WHCP page, please understand that I simply follow what the calls are listed as, not on any details further in the listing. I should warn you that I'm probably going to make other snap judgements of this sort in the future. You've heard of "thanks but no thanks"? This is a "sorry but no sorry". I'm only writing because you kept getting all judgemental with me even after I backtracked on my earlier position. (And my motto: "Don't take it personal, I treat everyone like shit!") Ontario television templates

[edit]

Television stations in Ontario are subcategorized into one or more subcategories by region of the province; they are not filed directly in the parent category Category:Television stations in Ontario. Is there a specific reason why you keep changing that category's status back to "includeonly"? It's redundant categorization which is against Wikipedia's rules. The category either goes "noinclude" or comes off the template entirely; the television stations are not to be forced directly into the main category when they're already in a subcategory. Bearcat 04:02, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am very sorry to inform you that your attempt to fix a grammar mistake (which was otherwise fine, by the way) also had this sentence ("...50% owner, along with News Corporation, of the Fox Family Channel...") changed to this: ("...50% owner, along with News Corporation, parent company of the Fox Family Channel..."). Unfortunately, that sentence modification doesn't really make as much sense as the old one did, so I restored the old one (semi-reverted, of course, to retain the rest of the edit). Thank you for your understanding. --WCQuidditch 15:21, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Wikiscripps!

Hey, I was wondering if you could include some sort of noinclude tag on your user page. The reason I ask is that your userpage is showing up here, in category space, and in many other categories. User pages shouldn't be listed in TV station categories, obviously, so... Will you fix it? Happy editing! :) --Firsfron of Ronchester 03:48, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adding noinclude tags won't help. That only gets rid of stuff when I transclude it. The solution is to remove the cat's entirely. Morgan Wick 05:33, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, he can add colons inside the category (example: Category:Television_stations_in_Illinois ) to get the same effect, without having to remove anything. What do you say, Wikiscripps?--Firsfron of Ronchester 06:59, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Wikiscripps,
I see by your contribs list that you're active again today. Please remove the fair use images (the station logos) and categories from your page, per Wikipedia fair use guidelines and the guideline on article space categories being used for userpace pages. Thanks, --Firsfron of Ronchester 22:26, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I took the unusual liberty of cleaning up the user page myself. I subst'd the templates, then removed the categories. Preferably, users wouldn't place these templates on their user pages, but if you must have them, subst them in and remove the categories. Stevie is the man! Please be mindful

[edit]

When you revert, please be mindful about how far back you revert. When you recently reverted on KFTA-TV, you reverted all the way back to the last version you did, which leapfrogged over some cleanup work that I did on the article. I restored the last version I did, with the cleanup that I did in place. I don't know if your reverting that far was intentional or inadvertent, but I just thought I'd let you know. Kaiser Broadcasting

[edit]

Before you "pre-reverted", I changed the table to bring it more in-line with other tables featuring television station groups. (Gannett, Metromedia, Group W, and RKO are all tables which I've either created or revised that are similar in style.) However, in one of your revisions you claim to have made the article "neater" when in reality you simply made it very sloppy.

Several other things: 1) There is NO NEED for all these footnotes within the table. Simplifying this (as was done previously) removes a lot of REDUNDANCY. 2) Adding links for all of the former Kaiser stations is REDUNDANT. They can be found within the individual station articles.

So, I'm changing it back. I'm also adding more text to the main section. Rollosmokes 16:28, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What is wrong with you?

[edit]

Did you even read the above message? You obviously did not, because you re-reverted the most recent change. I'm changing it back, and if you feel the urge to revert again, contact me. Please don't start another editing war. Rollosmokes 18:45, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My response to your message

[edit]

First, I explained why I made the changes I made in the FIRST MESSAGE I left for you after your first revertion of my work. Second, your desire to "put it where (you) had it" implies that you are claiming ownership of this article, which is a WikiNoNo. Rollosmokes 20:10, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"First of all -- To be honest, yes I own the article. The proof is righthere. Second, I made the changes reflecting the upcoming estimates from Nielsen Media."

If you admit to ownership, then you must also remember that one important Wikiguideline: unless you don't want your work endlessly edited by others, DON'T SUBMIT IT. Once you do, it's in the public domain. So, unless you have a copyright for what you've written, don't get territorial when someone else tinkers with your submissions. I don't, unless it's extremely unnecessary. Rollosmokes 20:35, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"What I meant to say was that I personally opened the article on Wikipedia. I don't try to gain copyright status..."

Just because you opened the article doesn't mean you and ONLY YOU have exclusivity to editing it. These are things I shouldn't have to remind you of. I did my part and explained what I did and why I did it. You could have at least contacted me before you reverted back. Just a little courtesy next time, and try to accept some professional, constructive criticism in the future. Rollosmokes 20:49, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Well maybe... But the market listings are still the same when they are changing... What about that???"

Just a minor oversight...corrected. Rollosmokes 21:29, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another KFTA-TV edit issue

[edit]

I had to revert your edits that changed the date of KFTA-TV's affiliation change (from NBC to Fox) from August 28 to August 26. I think you confused the date of one of the references with the changeover date; the August 26-dated reference, in fact, confirms the changeover will occur on Monday, August 28. (I also verified you're not physically in that market; I'm not either, but I am in Arkansas and found the reference myself.) I don't think you were being malicious, but nonetheless my prior edit with the August 28 date was correct. --RBBrittain 01:44, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Subchannels and PSIP numbers on templates

[edit]

This came up with Template:MNTV Florida regarding how to display where a subchannel of a digital station is located. Given that virtually all digital signals map to the number of their analog parent, does it make more sense to list a subchannel under its PSIP number or its actual digital number. In the bevy of MyNetwork TV templates I've made, I've used the PSIP number for the sake of simplicity since the average viewer has no idea of where the signal actually is. Is there a standard for subchannels on templates? Scrabbleship 04:30, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

KOL Secret Slumber Party on CBS Schedule Variations

[edit]

Since you've started the KOL Secret Slumber Party on CBS Schedule Variations article, I decided to let you know you forgot the most obvious scheduling variation there is -- stations that don't air the lineup in its entirety at all. (WUSA falls into this, airing only three of the six shows...) Yeah, I don't feel like digging through all of the other stations and looking it up and adding a option "6" for those stations...

I created a copy of KOL Secret Slumber Party on CBS Schedule Variations at User:WIKISCRIPPS 07/KOL Secret Slumber Party on CBS Schedule Variations as you asked about at the AFD. You can do this yourself by cut and paste if you like, or you can put a note at the AFD asking for the closing administrator to "userfy" the page if it is deleted. Fair use image galleries

[edit]

While I sympathize with you, as having your hard work removed does suck, the fact remains that these galleries violate Wikipedia's rules for copyrighted material, and need to be removed and stay removed. This is sufficiently important an issue that I will be forced to block you if you continue to revert these galleries back into the articles. If you'd like, discussion of this subject is ongoing at WP:TVS. - A Man In Bl♟ck (conspire | past ops) 02:29, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have read WP:FUC, and I'll reiterate my original stance: I DISAGREE with the administrator's opinion on this matter. I believe the images in the galleries completely fall under the guideline set in point no. 8, as they DO CONTRIBUTE SIGNIFICANTLY to the main theme of the article(s) and do not exist for purely decorative purposes. Areas that can be considered shaky ground would be found in points 1 and 3, though as long as we continue to properly credit sources and keep redundancy to a minimum (i.e. the same logo appearing more than a few times with just background changes, etc.), that should be acceptable.

We should be able to keep the galleries, and A Man in Black should not be imposing his will (a way of possibly abusing his administrative powers) upon us without first giving us an opportunity to speak our opinion. Rollosmokes 08:46, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to Pacers-Pistons Brawl

[edit]

Your mass-reverts are undoing a *bunch* of legitimate changes. Please stop that. If you want to make changes, by all means, but quit the reverts of a number of changes.

Also, the changes you are making need to be edited: that's what I've done in some of those changes. Things like capitalized section headers, and not putting questions in headers!

Finally, I have moved some of the info to the talk pages. It's not related to the article, really at all. However, I have put it on the talk page to see what other people think of it.

Jackass

[edit]

Hi, templates are designed to display directly relevant information to a given subject. I'm not sure how much you know about the relationship between Jackass / CKY (haven't seen you editing much on the subject?) but the connection between Bam / CKY videos and Jackass does not extend to CKY (band), Kiss a good man's ass, Blastazoid etc at the level that would require links on the template. One of your rationales was that "drummer Jess Margera made a few appearance on the show and the movies...". Indeed he did, mainly in footage that was previously released in CKY videos. If every band, person and project two degrees of separation away from Jackass were on the template it would be excessively large. If you can provide evidence that these things are directly connected, I'd be interested to see it. Otherwise you're inviting A LOT of vaguely connected stuff to get on the template which is seriously counter productive. Please don't revert the template without being able to show the connections. Thanks, Deizio talk 00:09, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just to follow up on one of your other inclusions, Joker and the Thief redirects to Wolfmother. Are you suggesting every band featured in Jackass should be on the template? "Corona" is featured as the title music. Deizio talk 00:19, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think you can reasonably argue that a band should be featured on the template because the drummer appeared in one original scene in Jackass. "Flesh Into Gear" is in the end credits of the first movie which, imo, is more important but still some distance from making the band essential to Jackass. I appreciate your motives are to build Wikipedia but there are still limits to what should appear on templates - CKY (band) and other loosely connected entities can be adequately mentioned in the body of the article. Deizio talk 00:26, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If "Joker and the Thief" had / has its own article which makes clear the connection to JackassN2 - the little interpromotional video featuring the Jackass cast included - it would be fine, but not a redirect to the main band article. Deizio talk 00:30, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nationwide ABC affil template

[edit]

Sorry to just barge in here, but I wanted to raise something about the nationwide ABC stations template in the works. No offence, but I'm not sure how useful it'd actually be. For the average user (who likely has never heard of such a thing as Nielsen DMAs, much less which markets are big/medium/small), the template's not gonna mean much other just a bunch of random call letters; and for the broadcast geeks like myself (who basically already know which station's in which market), it'll largely just duplicate Category: ABC network affiliates. In any case, I don't really see the point of having a boiled-down version of List of ABC affiliates on every single station's article. - Hinto 04:51, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cut and paste moves

[edit]

Please don't copy-and-paste moves as you did with a number of radio station articles. It ruins GFDL compliance and always has to be undone, so it wastes a lot of time. Please move pages using the move tab in the future. Additionally, before you do so, please read relevant pages (in this case WP:NC#Broadcasting) and discuss the move with fellow editors, as it seems that your moves have been against those conventions and have thus been contentious. Thanks, Kyle Barbour 20:33, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you looking for an explanation then let me say this...
Users are constantly moving articles in erroneous fashion...
For example, WSNX radio in Muskegon, Michigan was at one point located at WSNX (FM), but what the users don't know is that the FCC query lists the station as WSNX-FM. The query has the "-FM" suffix attached to the station's call letters but someone keeps changing it without a cause.
So that's why I had to change it back, I'm sorry about the way I'm doing it but it had to be done one way or another... Please understand my cause!!! --WIKISCRIPPS 07 SUN FEB 18 2007 6:00 PM EST
I don't have a problem with you moving pages, you can move pages all you want, so long as there is consensus to do so amongst the editors involved and you don't copy and paste the pages, but use the move tab. All I'm really asking is that you follow the guidelines on WP:MOVE and be reasonable. Kyle Barbour 20:13, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What if an article you're trying to move it to is already taken, then what??? --WIKISCRIPPS 07 MON FEB 19 2007 6:55 PM EST
Then list the page at WP:RM and an admin will take care of that for you. Kyle Barbour 00:24, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Believe it or not WIKI, we were actually trying to accomplish the same thing. I also noticed the station articles moved from their official FCC call signs. Once I realized it was a misunderstanding involving the radio station project, I thought I'd help move some pages back and more or less stumbled onto your copy/paste moves (I almost didn't notice but for lack of histories). So then I researched all your moves and figured out the proper way to get them fixed. It was a learning experience for me (I never knew there was a special page just to fix copy/paste moves before) but I'm glad we could help clean up the original problem with the call signs. While I completely understand your reversion (and, hell, support it), I was wondering if you have a solution to the problem? It is my understanding (at least how it is currently setup), that if a station falls into a subcategory, it shouldn't be in the main category. It follows, then, that this article either need be removed from the parent category (Michigan) or re-write the rule. Which do you recommend? Or, am I misinterrpreting? Thanks! JPG-GR
