VeryVerily just reverted out changes on the 9/11 attacks article. Rather than doing a revert myself, I just removed the word terrorist, and changed islamic back to islamist. Me and User:SouthernComfort suspect that this anon user is the re-incarnation (if you will) of User:Mansour, who has been attacking not only me, but User:SouthernComfort, User:Zora, and User:SlimVirgin as well, under multiple anon covers (i.e. IP addresses). He has (and continues) to post under various names on the Afghanistan page, on Grand Ayatollah al-Shirazi and Bayazid Bastami among the other pages I recall. He sometimes uses names like Paul Chiu, and at other times, posts anonymously. I cant prove it though, But I have reason to believe that he is one editor, doing so. He is a pain in the rear, and he doesnt give up despite being warned by two admins. As they say: C'EST LA FIN DES HARICOTS.

Hi, I found one of the images you uploaded from the CIA World Factbook. This image didn't have a license tag - all images on Wikipedia must have a license tag so other users know what they can and can't do with them. I added the appropriate tag, but for future reference there is a special tag for content from the Factbook: {{PD-USGov-CIA-WF}}. Simply add this to the description field when you upload. Thanks! The Wikiproject No Ads, created as a backlash against the Answers.com deal, has served an important function in providing a space for users to express their disagreement with the Foundation proposal. While the current controversies about userboxes raise questions about political and social advocacy on Wikipedia, there should be greater flexibility regarding advocacy about Wikipedia in the Wikipedia namespace. I did some research on the matter a few months ago because the copyright term in Mexico got extended from 75 to 100 years. I posted my finds in the talk page of the Copyrights page. The link to the archived post is here. In the specific case of the Presidencia pages, the photographs located at [3] have been released to the public domain. There's some other Presidencia page which releases podcasts under some Creative Commons license.

Unless a specific license is stated, all content should be licensed according to current Mexican copyright law regulations (quite similar to those in the US). Eric, with all due respect, the sources you used are hardly the "best ones available". Even Russian official websites, although often sloppy, inaccurate, and based on obsolete sources are a better choice than the collections of randomly romanized Russian placenames compiled by unknown people for unknown purposes based on unknown sources, such as fallingrain or airport-images.

Now, to address your concerns from above (even though I explained my reasons at least twice in the edit summaries of my reverts).

1. ...why, of the four places I found named Novopetrovsk (2 current, 2 that have since changed their names), why, when my article was turned into a disambiguation page, the two towns STILL called Novopetrovsk were ERASED from mention, while the two that no longer hold that name were preserved. Two of the four places you found are not called "Novopetrovsk" (Новопетровск) and never have been. The one in Amur Oblast is called "Novopetrovka" (Новопетровка), and the one in Bashkortostan is called "Novopetrovskoye" (Новопетровское). Granted, these names all root from "New Peter", but they are not identical and are not romanized the same. Hence, I renamed the articles accordingly, and moved the mentions from Novopetrovsk disambiguation page to Novopetrovsky and Novopetrovka disambiguation pages. The two places that used to be named "Novopetrovsk" were left on the Novopetrovsk disambiguation page. Also, note that all three disambiguation pages are still interlinked via a "see also" link, so readers unsure of exact spelling could check them out if they need to. Finally, I should mention that creating an article that describes completely unrelated places sharing similar names (as you did here) is completely unacceptable; this is what disambiguation pages are for. Information on individual places should go to individual articles.
2. several details about their locations (longitude/latitude coordinates, altitudes, relative positions) and informative External Links that I found were erased. They were not erased; I formatted them to follow the Manual of Style guidelines. Coordinates were converted to {{coord}} template (and now show in the top right corner of the article); altitudes and relative positions were simply formatted to follow the style used in articles on other Russian geo-locations. I did add the {{fact}} tags to them, because the sources you used can hardly be called reliable, but I did not delete the information because I do not have anything readily available to replace it. As for the external links, those were just links to maps, which are redundant once the coordinates are properly formatted. If you click on the coordinates, you'll land on a page that offers a great variety of links to maps of that location.
3. Perhaps you can help to augment the [now] four short Novopetrovsk articles, using that extensive database of yours? They are mostly just stubs, and desperately require the attention of an expert in the subject. Just because they are stubs does not mean we have to put them in one heap because they have similar names. Like I said above, individual entities should have individual articles. As geographical locations are not subject to notability criteria, it does not matter how short the stub is; it will be kept as long as the existence of that location is verifiable. As for my database, it does not contain information about Russian inhabited localities, it contains a list of them, as well as metadata about the relations between them (e.g., to which district a village belongs or into which rural and urban settlements a district is divided, or to which municipal district an administrative district corresponds, etc.) It is an indispensable tool for verification of existence of a place, for pinpointing its location relative to higher administrative and municipal units, for finding out its status and designation, for determining its official name and its romanization, but it is not really of much use for actual content creation. For that, I'd have to do a web or a library search just as you would, although I would not hurry to add every piece of information I find on a random web site without first verifying that site's credentials.

I'm wondering, would you object to moving Category:Original images made by Eric Shalov out of Category:Wikipedia images? I think Category:Wikipedia images is useful as a central category for finding other broad categories, and though your images are nice ones, I don't it's helpful navigation-wise to put them in the top-level category ... a bit like having local skepticism in Wikipedia:Contents (as an extreme example).

Your call, really -- if you'd like to keep it as is, that's okay by me, but if you don't care one way or the other I'd suggest moving it out of the main category.

I could care less, either way. I had no intention of having that category appear in other categories. Apparently some user named BrownHairedGirl put my "private" category in Category:Wikipedia images for some reason. I only created Category:Original images made by Eric Shalov so I could have a little gallery for tracking my own images amidst the current ongoing deletionist war on Wikipedia images that has destroyed almost all the work I've done over the years, uploading others' fair-use images. What a shame. Why can't they just host Wikipedia in a jurisdiction that doesn't honor international intellectual property laws? - Eric (talk) 09:37, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for clarifying — I didn't realize it was someone else who placed the category. I see where you're coming from — as someone with an interest (though by no means expertise) in law I'm sure we could relax WP:NFCC quite substantially before having serious reason for concern, but I guess I can understand the Foundation's stringency given that they don't have any money. (Not that it's all the Foundation's fault, but it seems like they inspired a lot of image deletionism.) Maybe they should just move to Russia... or better yet, international seas. Idon't know if you inserted the sentence, or if you simply opposed its deletion. Starting a sentence with Perhaps, and making an unsubtantiated claim, it unencyclopedic. You claim that there is a source, and the claims are true, but there is no source/reference following the statement. (Please review: WP:CITE and WP:Verifiability, threshold for inclusion is not "truth" but verifiability). Moreover, while second-hand smoke is undoubtedly unhealthy, the paragraph is talking about air pollution in a metropolitan area through car and factory emissions. I have never heard a phrase that claimed that smoking is a significant environmental pollutant(as implied by the hypothesis [it is, at most, a hypothesis, not a fact if the sentence starts with a "perhaps"]). It reminds me of the "funny tax" in New Zealand to cattle raisers because the flatulences of the cows were "polluting" the environment. But at least, the "tax" was verifiable, even if the levels of pollutants caused by flatulences are hard to measure.

I added the {{cn}} template that can stay for a while. If no reliable and verifiable source is given, I believe the statement should be deleted.

Someone else had writen that on high-smog days, the city takes measures, such as double hoy no circulo, and they cited it. This is true, I live in Mexico City, I know. Someone else deleted that statement, along with a statement that cigarettes contribute to pollution. I may have been in error in restoring the entire section (which I considered wrongly deleted), and not just the thing about hoy no circulo. It's an amusing idea, though- could 10 million people's cigarette smoke really have an effect? I suspect that cigarette smoke could only have low-altitude particulate matter (PM) effects on air quality- I dont think a ton of hydrocarbons are released from the smoke. It's a good floor plan. But you can't go shoving it into a too-small space immediately above a box, without disrupting something. What you have done is orphan a heading from its following text. You need a strategy to fix it. The solution is that the blinking box (I hate boxes) needs to be moved as it doesn't need to go where it is. I noticed you listed yourself as a participant of the Energy WikiProject.

There are 2 new outlines in this area that attempt to consolidate Wikipedia's coverage of their respective subjects, gathering and organizing the articles about them into one place and including descriptions for convenience. The purposes of these outlines are to make it easier for readers to survey or review a whole subject, and to choose from Wikipedia's many articles about it.

The new energy outlines are:

• Outline of solar energy
• Outline of wind energy

Please take a look at them, and....

if you spot missing topics, add them in.

if you can, improve the descriptions.

add missing descriptions.

show parent-offspring relationships (with indents).

fix errors.

Building outlines of existing material (such as Wikipedia) is called "reverse outlining". Reverse outlines are useful as a revision tool, for identifying gaps in coverage and for spotting poor structuring.

Revising a work with multiple articles (such as Wikipedia) is a little different than revising a paper. But the general principles are the same...

As you develop these outlines, you may notice things about the articles they organize. Like what topics are not adequately covered, better ways to structure and present the material, awkward titles, articles that need splitting, article sections lacking {{Main}} links, etc.
