A Personal Note of Thanks (From User: PennsylvanianSocialDemocrat

Hi! I noticed you created a page on the Zemskaya Rat. I just wanted to say this: Thank you so much for adding a little-known part of the Russian Civil War. Just out of curiosity, did you anything from my original draft of the article? I'm just saying, there's some good stuff to use there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PennsylvanianSocialDemocrat (talkcontribs) 16:50, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Military history of Puerto Rico

[edit]

Even though the Battle of Zaragosa was a French victory, General Antonio Valero de Bernabe was considered a heroe and was condecorated by the Spanish Crown for his actions in said battle. Therefore, please do not delete anything from this article. Thank you, Tony the Marine 10:15, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

However, according to http://www.paris.org/Kiosque/aug02/history.aug.html the French armies were defeated by the Austrians in the Battle of Saragossa on August 20, 1710.

Battle of Saragossa

[edit]

I am puzzled what battle this might be. It can't be the battle you refer at, because it was fought 100 years earlier. I will let you know if i find something.

Battle of Beachy head edit

[edit]

Hello Filiep: You added this - "The ‘white’ squadron was commanded by Victor-Marie d'Estrées" to this paragraph:

"The French Admiral divided his force into the customary three squadrons – white and blue, white, and blue pennants respectively. Tourville, aboard the Soleil Royal, commanded the centre, or ‘white’, squadron.[16] The ‘blue’ squadron in the French van was commanded by Château-Renault. The ‘white’ squadron was commanded by Victor-Marie d'Estrées."

The addition of this last sentence contradicts the second sentence ie:Tourville commanded the White squadron. Did you mean d'Estees commanded the 'white and blue' squadron, or have I got it wrong? Cheers. Raymond Palmer 18:55, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the comment. I was very pleased with the links - I looked myself to find Chateau-Renault and Everstsen but couldn't find anything.
The third Allied commander I discover from 1911 Brittanica was Ralph Delaval. This seems to verify the fact (although I don't speak dutch):
'Beide vloten waren verdeeld in drie eskaders.
There's no article for him (at least I couldn't find one).
Keep up the good work. Raymond. Raymond Palmer 18:07, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Filiep to replying to my not so subtle hint about Ralph Delaval. If we can't find enough info to write a stub for him, well nevermind. He shall stay a red-link. Thanks for your help. If you you need any help in the future don't hesitate to ask - I have quite alot of books on the period. Are you Dutch? Your English is excellent. Raymond Palmer 15:56, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Filiep, someones written a Ralph Delaval article :) Raymond Palmer 18:04, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like Sir Ralph Delaval, 2nd Baronet is not our Admiral Ralph Delaval. There's a reply from another user at the bottom of my talk page who seems to know about these things. It's all very confusing at times ;) Cheers for now. Raymond

Page creations

[edit]

Hi Filiep;

When creating pages on titled royals, such as Princess Maria Teresa of Savoy (just moved from Maria Teresa of Savoy), please observe WP:NC(NT). For kings and emperors, their articles are titled Name (Ordinal) of Place. Their consorts are titled Name of Place. Grand dukes, dukes and lower are titled Name (Ordinal), Title of Place. Their consorts are titled Title Name of Place. All other royals are titled Title Name of Place and holders of substantive titles are titled Title, Name of Place. There are a few exceptions and most of those are covered at WP:NC(NT). Happy editing. Charles 21:47, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Claudine Rhédey von Kis-Rhéde requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this.   — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 18:21, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on British expedition against Cuba requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article Anna Sforza, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Name change

[edit]

Hi Filiep. I was just about to suggest a name change to the article Action of August 1702 to the Battle of Santa Marta when I realise that you had redirected the article from that name. Was there any particular reason for this? Would you object if I were to change it back to Santa Marta. I know the name is not that common, but I have seen it called the Battle of Santa Marta in a few sources. Thanks Rebel Redcoat (talk) 22:59, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't matter. I can't find enough credible sources to justify a name change. Best. Rebel Redcoat (talk) 16:53, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Havenwerken

[edit]

Hi Filiep,

I saw your name in the history section of an article and I wonder if you can help me to find out anything about a construction company from Netherlands named Koninklijke Nederlandsche Maatschappij Voor Havenwerken. I live in the city of Mersin, South Turkey. The harbour of Mersin had been constructed by this company back in 1950s. It was an important company then and now I am searching to find out what happened to the company. I couldn’t gather anything from internet sources. But I have a very vague idea that the compant might have been sold to another company in Spain. Thanks Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 13:25, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 17:55, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 21:00, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Loon and Limburg

[edit]

Hello! I saw your edit to County of Loon and then noticed your editing pattern is one that suggests you would be interested to see that I have recently expanded the historical section of Limburg (Belgium). You might be able to add a bit more. One thing I was trying to work out is exactly how Wikipedia should explain whether there is any part of the Duchy of Limburg still in the Province of Belgian Limburg. I think I am right that Dalhem sometimes counted as part of the Duchy, and that this means Voeren comes into this category? I saw somewhere else on Wikipedia (I am not sure if it was Dutch or English) that Rekem in Lanakan was also in the Duchy but I can not confirm this. It seems to have been directly under the emperor, not via the his title of Duke?--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 13:12, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bernardino de Mendoza

[edit]

There is no article on "Bernardino de Mendoza (Captain General)". Are you intending to create one? Until there it exists, it is inappropriate to change the title of the current article. We do not disambiguate names when there is no other article. Any links to "Bernardino de Mendoza" will still go to the same article, even if the "captain general" is intended. In such a case the links should be changed, not the article. Paul B (talk) 18:57, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop creating unreferenced and poorly referenced articles

[edit]

You have created a slew of unreferenced and poorly referenced articles such as Philip of Burgundy-Beveren. Such articles do not improve the encyclopedia. If you have some book which contains information about a number of persons of nobility, please provide inline references to validate each statement. Also, more than one source is desirable, since if a person is notable by Wikipedia standards, there will be substantial coverage in several reliable sources. By adding such articles to Wikipedia, you perform a disservice. Please consider going back and adding references for the slew of poor articles you have created, before you create more such. Liege casualties

[edit]

Merci (Thanks) for the edit but do you have a published source for the casualty figure you have added; we aren't allowed to use Wikipedia as a source. |Regards Keith-264 (talk) 10:37, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Keith. I understand your point. I searched on internet but I only found [2]. For the rest you find all kind of figures, even 25.000 German casualties in 1914 British newspapers ! Both sides lied about the casualty figures for political reasons, also the Germans. I just can't believe a quarter of the WWI Belgian casualties fell during these few days. Furthermore, no large military cemeteries are to be found in the Liege area. Something you would expect with some many soldiers killed. It must be an exaggeration, but I can't prove it (yet). Regards Filiep (talk) 13:22, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Habeas corpus indeed. I used your web source as a reference and integrated it with the others but edited the commentary to avoid a possible NPOV objection. I hope that's ok but if not we can discuss it. Several editors have added to the Belgian Great War articles this year, so I'm sure you're welcome to join in, scrutinise them and suggest improvements. 5th Army (Russia)

[edit]

Don't think this article should have been renamed. Yes it was an Army of the Soviet Union. It is currently a Army in the Russian Military and should have it's current name as it's article title. We have hundreds of examples of Former Soviet units whose article name is not their historic name but the name they currently serve under. I suggest the article be changed back to 5th Army (Russia) for the same reason the article title was changed in 2010. Ryan.opel (talk) 00:42, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I reverted your protected edit request on Template talk:Navbar, as it clearly had nothing to do with that particular template (Template:Navbar). Your edit is for some other page which was unclear from the information provided there. I did find a couple of navigation templates which had incorrect "V T E" links on them, which took you to Navbar instead of the correct template. You may well be able to just edit the correct template, so I suggest you take another look and either discuss on the correct talk page or just make the changes you were requesting (if you know how to do it and it's not protected). --Murph9000 (talk) 13:25, 22 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
