I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 02:33, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jeremy112233. There seems to be some more disruptive ip editing here. I'm not sure if it's the same user, but two separate editors were blocked on the page some time ago [1]. Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 18:45, 21 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much for letting me know. It is likely the same person as it's a bit of a coincidence that multiple IPs have been trying to add the same type of content. Hi Jeremy, I was trying to update my wikipedia page, which is very out of date. It has been cut now, how can I get my page to be in date? best tom hunter artist — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tomhunterart (talkcontribs) 17:18, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there User:Tomhunterart. Generally you should avoid editing your own page on Wikipedia as the rules can be very complex in terms of producing content that is neutral, properly sourced, and in line with style protocols. I would suggest that you do the following: Prepare a list of items that you believe should be added to the page and ensure each item is supported by a newspaper or magazine article (provide these as well), and then add a section on the talk page of your article asking for another editor to add that material to the page for you. Hopefully, another editor will review your request and see whether or not you have the right kinds of sources and if the material is notable enough to be added. Given how your recent edits were received, I would avoid editing your page further at the very minimum, as you are likely to be blocked from editing further if you persist in adding information that is not in accordance with Wikipedia rules. Hi, the maximum allowed length of a DYK hook is 200 characters, but the original one you supplied is 230. TSO content

[edit]

Hi there,

You had written "Unfortunately the sources you have been using to add negative content about the biographies of living people to Wikipedia are not allowed. If you would like your content to remain up on the site, I suggest that you find more reliable, third-party sources, or else the content will continue not to comply with Wikipedia's strict referencing rules."

That is not MY content, as you infer. I merely restored it because it was explaining what happened to two of the long-time performers, and it was coming from a direct interview from those performers. Those interviews have been quoted and referenced in many online articles as well. Meant no harm, and also restored the information about their "Dream Child 2010" release with an added reference. 174.57.209.235 (talk) 06:52, 2 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine. The interviews are not RS, however, and cannot be used on Wikipedia. Jeremy112233 (Lettuce-jibber-jabber?) 13:59, 2 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Help with accusation of browser hijacking?

[edit]

Hi there. We noticed your very balanced, even-handed and nuanced participation in a discussion regarding accusations of browser hijacking on the Conduit talk page and were wondering if you might be willing to have a look at this edit on the page Surf Canyon. Unlike Conduit, we have never participated in any browser hijacking activities. Our application is also very easy to remove using standard methods, with instructions provided on our FAQ. The edit, by a single-issue IP editor, may be nothing but linkspam for the referenced blog, which, by the way, refers to both the Bing and Yahoo! toolbars as "viruses."

We would prefer not to undo this ourselves because of the potential for the appearance of a conflict of interest; given your understanding of these issues, we're hoping you might be willing to just back that edit out. You likely would find that none of the verifiable sources mentioning Surf Canyon as a product or a company say anything about hijacking, and malwaretips.com fails to meet the documentation criteria listed at WP:RSE. Thanks very much if you have a moment to look into this, or if you can recommend someone else. —SurfCanyonInc (talk) 23:12, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SurfCanyonInc. I've removed the non-RS links from the page, one was also a previous one supporting other content. The one piece of advice I would give is to close this account and open a different one. While your admittance of COI is very laudable (!), unfortunately Wikipedia does not allow usernames that indicate that the user represents a group or institution, instead of being an individual. Jeremy112233 (Lettuce-jibber-jabber?) 19:33, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the edits and for the tip. FWIW, "our" account is only used by one individual. I haven't seen that particular bit of policy, and I read quite a bit before contacting you; could you point me to it, or just let me/us know if it would be sufficient to make it clear on the User page that it's "an employee" rather than a group account? Password has not been shared. Either way, than you for your kind assistance. —SurfCanyonInc (talk) 20:11, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Any username will work, so long as it cannot be misconstrued as a group. Not to worry, many people make this mistake. Jeremy112233 (Lettuce-jibber-jabber?) 20:16, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

UAA

[edit]

In reference to the usernames you recently reported to UAA, I just wanted to let you know that those types of usernames are permitted by the username policy: usernames are acceptable if they contain a company or group name but are clearly intended to denote an individual person, such as "Mark at WidgetsUSA". Help with a new section for Verizon article?

[edit]

Hello Jeremy112233, I am reaching out to you for some help as I noticed that you recently made a helpful edit on the Verizon Enterprise Solutions article. As you may have seen on that Talk page, I am an employee of Verizon, and I don't make any direct edits to Verizon related articles myself. However, from time to time I have offered drafts to update the Verizon article and other articles, including that for Verizon Enterprise Solutions. I am wondering if you could help me with a new draft that I am suggesting for the Verizon Communications article.

I have offered a new draft to add a section regarding the company's "Corporate responsibility," which currently is not covered in the article at all. You can find the draft in my userspace. On the Verizon Talk page, here, I have left a more detailed request. To date, I have not had any replies from the Wiki Project and editors I have reached out to, so I am hoping that you might be interested in looking at this draft. If you have the time, would you be able to look over the draft and move it into the article if it looks good? I am open to any suggestions or questions.

Thanks so much, VZBob (talk) 16:55, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there! Nice to meet you! Just giving you a heads-up (as you've been a frequent editor to this article) that I removed the internship controversy section given the refs used were wholly non-notable or didn't even exist. A more adequate treatise on the issue can be found on the magazine editor's article, although I've still to find adequate sources (something which may be entirely impossible given the little transcendence of the issue). Please let me know if you have any thoughts. Regards, FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 16:41, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jeremy. Reaching out to you regarding your reverted change to Colin Callender's page. You reverted a former change, saying that:"At ITV, Callender worked on several television epics, such as Brideshead Revisited and Jewel in the Crown." If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Jack Mohr requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
