User talk:Josephgrossberg

A bit odd you redirecting your talk page to your user page, please dont or I will have to report said action as if you wish to edit you need to have a page where people can leave you messages. Also please dont deconstruct redirects [1], Thanks, SqueakBox 17:18, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was (mistakenly) told to redirect my talk page to my user page; no need to make threats about "reporting" me over something so trivial.
And your redirect is incorrect, for reasons I subsequently explained: I agree with you that "cannabis" is the technical term, but their use of "marijuana" is a quote. [2] Editing their mission statement makes no more sense than changing their name to "The Cannabis Policy Project".

Some people redirect their user page to their user talk page, which is fine as your user page is yours. It isnt trivial as it makes it difficult to communicate with you. You slightly misunderstood about the redirect, marijuana redirects to Cannabis (drug), thus the proper way to do it is [[Cannabis (drug)|marijuana]] whereas in the example you reverted we were back to marijuana as the link itself. My signature strangely appeared aty the end of your last comment so I have removed it. I agree that if the quote says marijuana we should leave it as that, , but generally I try to remove the word marijuana which is misused countless times on this project. UK and European people, amongst others, do not call cannabis marijauna because hashish is mostly more common than weed, SqueakBox 18:00, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough.

{helpme} How do I get involved with these internal Wikipedia groups? Do I just add the appropriate badge to this page and start editing?

There is really no need to add a badge, or sign up for anything - you can just go ahead and edit.--Commander Keane 03:40, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

R on R

[edit]

Great work trying to clean-up the R on R article - I would have done it but I don't understand what it is on about so it's a difficult thing to do... --Larry laptop 21:10, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I'm doing it in bits and pieces. It was clearly written by programmers, for programmers, and that's not what Wikipedia is about. Josephgrossberg 21:15, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The page is vastly improved now, with your edits. I also like the way you've asked what makes RoR special, in the Discussion page. I think the issue of whether RoR is "special" is well-suited for a wikipedia page, in a way that the now-deleted technical details were not. Thanks for doing this. (PS. I'm posting this on your Talk page because you've started a great thread on the article/discussion page, and I didn't want to divert that.) --Dankelley 03:03, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. I'm glad you like. There's definitely room for improvement, but I think/hope most people see it as a heading in the right direction. Josephgrossberg 04:27, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Teaneck, NJ

[edit]

I have thousands of pages on my watchlist, but Teaneck is where I live. A lot of people get onto Wikipedia and the first thing they'll do is to add themselves or a friend as a notable. It happens all over or as a joke, but we have to maintain some integrity if it's going to be an encyclopedia. Alansohn 19:31, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • The text was reinserted by accident, and I'm not sure why I wasn't hit with an edit conflict. The text that you had removed was taken out per the issues you had raised that would seem to be clear violations of WP:COI. Alansohn 17:09, 16 February 2007 (UTC)\[reply]

Pot

[edit]

I dont know about a mission but I do know that wikipedia has used the generic term cannabis since before I edited here 2 and a half years ago. The main issue I have with the word marijuana is that it only describes herbal cvannabis and cannabis also includes its preparations, particularly hashish, which is more common in Europe than marijuana is, SqueakBox 17:05, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bloglines

[edit]

I don't know how to remove Bloglines from the list of "Articles to Delete", but according to [Guide to deletion] a "volunteer" (can this be anyone like us? Or a full admin?) will close the discussion and move it to another list, where a Wikipedian admin can then remove the warning. I dunno. :) Thanks!Minh T. Nguyen 23:20, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Teaneck Highwaymen

[edit]

I currently go to Teaneck High School and my teachers and classmates have always told me that the teams are named the way they are because of what is stated in the article. It's possible that it isn't the original reason why they're named that, but if you are sure that they were named the Highwaymen because of another reason, please add it to the article. ☆CharlesNguyễn 00:54, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tagged (website)

[edit]

The article Tagged (website) has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article seemed to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. NawlinWiki 14:13, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you've edited on the XXL page recently. well, I've just tagged it as unreferenced and as containing original research. If you value the content of the page, please refer to it to provide references to it, otherwise I intend to reduce it to fully verifiable facts, which would bring the article to a stub.

DC Meetup notice

[edit]

Greetings. There is going to be a Washington DC Wikipedia meetup on next Saturday, July 21st at 5pm in DC. Since you are listed in Category:Wikipedians_in_Virginia, I thought I'd invite you to come. I'm sorry about the short notice for the meeting. Hopefully we'll do somewhat better in that regard next time. If you can't come but want to make sure that you are informed of future meetings be sure to list yourself under "but let me know about future events", and if you don't want to get any future direct notices \(like this one\), you can list yourself under "I'm not interested in attending any others either" on the DC meetup page.--Gmaxwell 22:09, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nick Schager

[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Nick Schager, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. B. Wolterding 18:49, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your reversions to Charlotte Stokely

[edit]

Please assume good faith when dealing with other editors, which you did not on Charlotte Stokely. First, I am not adding "promotional material", but simply links to a new database along the lines of IAFD or Eurobabeindex. Second, do you realize that by your wholesale blind reverts that you are also reverting edits I made to the text of the article? Edits that cleared up some fundamental inaccuracies in the article. This kind of kneejerk revision and accusations of spamming are extremely uncivil on your part and I'm asking you to stop. Iamcuriousblue (talk) 17:36, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the first point, I don't agree with you. IAFD provides information like a filmography and directorial credits. That wiki is just a bunch of links to porn galleries. Furthermore, there is no nudity on IAFD itself and any links to commercial sites are clearly marked as such.
Regarding the second, you should split your reverts and other changes into separate edits so that they are more atomic. I did notice that I reverted your other edits, but they were trivial changes, not "fundamental inaccuracies", and your edit summary made no mention of them. Josephgrossberg (talk) 18:17, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Image:22151392 2b6e584819 o.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [3], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[Talk:Image:22151392 2b6e584819 o.jpg|the article's talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Josephgrossberg! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 3 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

The article Charlotte Stokely has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:PORNBIO, no indication the subject can satisfy the GNG or any other specialized guideline, only relevant GNews hit is a passing mention.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. You are invited to the National Archives ExtravaSCANza, taking place every day next week from January 4–7, Wednesday to Saturday, in College Park, Maryland (Washington, DC metro area). Come help me cap off my stint as Wikipedian in Residence at the National Archives with one last success!

This will be a casual working event in which Wikipedians are getting together to scan interesting documents at the National Archives related to a different theme each day—currently: spaceflight, women's suffrage, Chile, and battleships—for use on Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons. The event is being held on multiple days, and in the evenings and weekend, so that as many locals and out-of-towners from nearby regions1 as possible can come. Please join us!
