Merge discussion

[edit]

Listroiderbob, generally speaking it is best to allow at least a week for discussion of a merge such as that of Lake Michigan-Huron into Great Lakes. Although the supporters haven't contributed much yet, the many other discussion pages show that there is considerable controversy over Lake Michigan-Huron, and it is important to let everyone have a chance to air their views. RockMagnetist (talk) 19:57, 14 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK, do you know what the other talk pages are?Listroiderbobtalk'tribs 00:14, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
See Talk:Lake_Michigan–Huron#Discussion_is_scattered_into_at_least_7_different_places. RockMagnetist (talk) 00:18, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, ok. Much of these discussions are actually about whether Lake Michigan-Huron is one lake or two, which is strangely mixed together with legit merge discussions. Listroiderbobtalk'tribs 00:20, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I know, it's a mess. I didn't realize that there had already been a merge discussion or two because they were handled in such an informal manner. I thought it would be worth doing it properly so a decision could be reached on something and digressions could be discouraged. RockMagnetist (talk) 00:28, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Grand Union Hotel

[edit]

I was thinking about that. I was working off the sentence about the Grand Union supermarket, which is where the hotel was proposed. Unfortunately I never saw the old hotel. I was looking at the site yesterday trying to picture it. I'll remove the edit until I have a chance to check the old maps. You're right that the Grand Union fronted on Broadway and the proposal is set farther back. Peter Flass (talk) 11:03, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You're correct, I deleted the statement. This was the site of the "old" Grand Union market - a strip mall anchored by G-U on one end and Woolworth's on the other. The market later moved to Congress Plaza. When it closed "Broadway Joe's" restaurant opened in the space, and this is what's mentioned in the article I cited. The building that houses Cold Stone, etc. was designed in part to "echo" the appearance of the Hotel from Broadway. Peter Flass (talk) 12:31, 20 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited U.S. Route 11 in New York, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page NY 3 (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Personal reflection/opinion essay tag

[edit]

Hi Listroiderbob, I had to research and add to the Wiki article about composer Mark Chan for a school project. I noticed you tagged my article as written like a personal reflection or opinion essay. I've tried to keep it as factual as possible, and would appreciate any suggestions to make it more encyclopedic and neutral. Thank you. Jwyj (talk) 17:58, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It is better. There are a few too many quotes. Also there are still some essay-like sentences such as "For Chan, it was yet another exploration of the common theme in all his work: the tension between modernity and tradition." Notice that I removed the advert tag from the article. See also WP:OWN. Listroiderbobtalkeditsmore 19:43, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Listroiderbob, thank you for your invaluable advice. I thought I had to put in everything I found out about Mark Chan, without realizing it made me sound biased! I did not even notice my essay-like sentences, so thank you for pointing them out. I have removed all reviews, most quotes and kept only the bare facts. If you could review my article again and advise me on how to further improve it, I would be most obliged. Thank you again for your help and time! Jwyj (talk) 02:13, 10 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Listroiderbob, just wanted to say I appreciate you helping out Wiki newbies like me. Thank you for reviewing my article again. I'm glad I was able to make it better with suggestions from many kind editors, including yourself. Much appreciation, Jwyj (talk) 03:51, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article Feedback Tool update

[edit]

Hey Listroiderbob. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 22:01, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

North Creek Railroad Station

[edit]

I'm glad you like my edits to North Creek Railroad Station, although I've got some other that I'm considering. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 19:55, 16 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mainly glad that you fixed the template markup issue. Listroiderbobtalkeditsmore 19:56, 16 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@DanTD: isn't putting the address in the NRHP infobox redundant with the station infobox? Listroiderbobtalkeditsmore 17:49, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Generally, yes. However there are often variations of the addresses listed by one agency or another that are applied to RR station listed on NRHP. Having said that, I don't object to your removal of the address. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 21:21, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Admittedly, this is a weak stub. To declare that it must be deleted without debate is not reasonable. Of course crime and criminal justice is this state is notable. For example, New Mexico's sexual assault rate is far above the national average. NM is a unique place, with an interesting culture. Bearian (talk) 20:43, 23 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I removed your PROD, because the stub can be improved. Bearian (talk) 20:44, 23 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, I will nominate it under a normal AfD if it is not improved in a week or so. By the way, I' m not using PROD to "declare that it must be deleted without debate," just to actually accomplish something when I thought AfD wouldn't generate a good consensus. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
