Request for Help with Current FAC

[edit]

Hello again! I hope that you are having a wonderful week so far. I was wondering if you could possibly help me with my current FAC? I would be more than happy to review anything in return for your help. Either way, good luck with your current work and your future projects. Aoba47 (talk) 02:08, 29 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! I'll take a look soon. NumerounovedantTalk 06:10, 29 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you've asked for a status report at the FAC. I've been through article and do not any glaring flaws that need to be discussed as such. I think it's pretty much FA ready, and should pass the review. That said, I'll offer comments if need be. Good luck with the nomination Aoba47. Anytime. Happy new year! NumerounovedantTalk 19:26, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hello! I hope that you are having a wonderful new year. I apologize for asking for your help again so quickly, but since you did not get a chance to comment on my last FAC, I was wondering if you could do a review for my current one. I would be more than happy to review or help with any of your current or future projects in return. Either way, here is to the start of a great year! Aoba47 (talk) 21:56, 1 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've left some comments at the page. I am sure the very minor prose fixes shall be taken care of during the review so i refrained from pointing them out. NumerounovedantTalk 05:21, 2 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited My Friend Pinto, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Amazon (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Your GA nomination of My Friend Pinto

[edit]

The article My Friend Pinto you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:My Friend Pinto for comments about the article. Well done! I need your help at the FAC regarding the review of the images in the "Themes and influences" section. Thanks.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 12:53, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Ssven2: I've left some comments there, hope they help. VedantTalk 14:57, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed yes. The only reliable one I got is from Swarajya magazine. I've used up what it speaks about the painting. Other than that, I got nothing. I've removed it.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 10:20, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think the description paints a pretty good picture of the painting itself. It did have some interesting motifs though, but they are nicely summed up in the text too. VedantTalk 11:11, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled granted

[edit]

Hi Numerounovedant, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Alex Shih (talk) 09:14, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Ssven2: Hey there, tbh I am not too sure about this one. College starts in a week, and I have a couple of articles that I'd like to be done with here. I'll try to offer whatever observations that I can come up with nonetheless. NumerounovedantTalk 11:25, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, Vedant. Do let me know when you do so.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 11:30, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, sir. NumerounovedantTalk 11:35, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Ssven2: I was wondering that since you dropped by at Margarita with a Straw, could you go through the Filming and post production section and let me know if reads fine? I am a little concerned about the clarity of the narrative in the first two paragraphs in particular. It'd be great help! NumerounovedantTalk 11:39, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Margarita with a Straw filming

[edit]

Here are my comments:

  • "Snow machines were used to create the artificial environment required for various sequences set during winter season. Koechlin and Revathi had to wear woollen clothes." — This portion doesn't have quite a good description, no offense. Perhaps "Snow machines were used to create the artificial environment required for various sequences set during winter season. As a result, Koechlin and Revathi had to wear woollen clothes."
  • Tweaked.
  • "The crew also faced difficulties in shooting certain scenes; the van that carried Koechlin's wheelchair broke and had to be manually held together while shooting." — Avoid repetition of "shooting" in the same sentence. BTW, it reads more like "the van" had a breakdown or something and not the chair. Do tweak it a little bit. Thanks.
  • It's quite ridiculous but it was the van broke down. xD Although they had no scenes where it was required to move, but the crew did hold the van manually whole Koechlin shot for a scene inside it.
Oh, LOL.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 12:22, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • "attended the workshop conducted by Bose herself." — Put a "a" instead of "the".

That's pretty much it. Otherwise, the section looks good.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 12:00, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Ssven2! NumerounovedantTalk 12:19, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Koechlin is French, period

[edit]

Not that I am arguing with you over the topic of her nationality, but from that recent source which proves she is legally French, I have removed "Indian-born" from the lead, since she is not genetically Indian. Feel free to rewrite, not revert. ----Kailash29792 (talk) 12:02, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Kailash29792:It's perfectly fine Kailash. I just read the context section here and thought that the "place of birth should not be mentioned in the lead unless they are relevant to the subject's notability" bit was particularly relevant in her case. She is not widley known in the French film industry or the country as such. So, I believe that her being born and brought up in India is an especially significant detail (I know that you'd mostly agree that her being Indian is relevant, just pointing out the reasoning for my actions here). Let me know if a sentence like: "Born in Pudducherry, India to French parents..." sounds like good option. Thank you. VedantTalk 12:29, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Kailash29792: People don't seem to be convinced. What do you suggest be done? VedantTalk 14:00, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The obvious: revert, since Koechlin is not Indian both legally and heritage-wise. Perhaps we could mention her Indian upbringing in the subsequent paragraph? ----Kailash29792 (talk) 14:12, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, is the current version good? VedantTalk 14:37, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The categories describing her as Indian can be removed. --Kailash29792 (talk) 15:49, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

January 2018

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Sonia Gandhi. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.

  • Given you have spent entire month of December 2017 edit warring over the lead on Sonia Gandhi and now you are making mass changes again without sources or consensus and mostly those edits that were only supported by you, it is now time for you to stop this. Capitals00 (talk) 14:49, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The only problem is that that nothing constructive has been done. I told you exactly where to look for refs in the summary; mentioned policies that are supposed to support the changes; started a talk discussion; you may want to put this message on your own talk page too. Let the page be as it is, it deserves peace more than anything else. VedantTalk 15:07, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality of Kalki Koechlin

[edit]

Hi Numerounovedant,
I was correcting dablinks when I removed the nationality as French in the infobox, without knowing that there have been disputes on it. I haven't made any further changes than that. While in the Ouest website she mentions of having a French passport, they also mention [qui a été son mari pendant sept ans] on her being married to Anurag Kashyap for 7 years, which is incorrect. In these sources 1 and 2, she mentions of having an Indian citizenship. Now as India doesn't grant dual citizenship, there's some issue with the nationality in the article. Your thoughts?,
Thanks, MT TrainDiscuss 15:09, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Mark the train, thanks for dropping by; I wasn't too sure about the Ouest source at first either. What makes it even more ambiguous is the lack of a proper date (I couldn't find one in the article). Now that you came up with a source that is as recent as November 2016, I would ideally like to go by it. It is her word against her, literally, in which case we should go by more recent source which I believe is The Hindu piece (The Ouest source mentions that she has been a part of about a "dozen" films, which suggests that it must be a lot older than 2016). I think we can back to the Indian nationality then. VedantTalk 15:20, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I also had doubts with the date of that article as the only reference to her Bollywood work is mentioned as Dev D, which was released way back in 2009. MT TrainDiscuss 16:02, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Did any of you try viewing the French site's source page to find its' publication date? There has to be some way. --Kailash29792 (talk) 16:30, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
After some efforts, I could find a similar article by the same correspondent in June 2016: https://mediaindia.eu/dossier/kalki-koechlin/ which has been worded a bit differently. If you click on the the next image in the Ouest article, the date shows as May/June 2016 for the same edition. It's also interesting to note that fr:Kalki Koechlin mentions her as an Indian actress of French origin though it also contains the same Ouest source. MT TrainDiscuss 17:31, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
So, it cannot be any newer. We could go back to the Indian nationality on principle then, once we come up with a consensus on whether The Hindu source can be used to declare her Indian. Thoughts Mark the train, Kailash29792? VedantTalk 17:56, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Meanwhile I found this, a lesser reliable site that terms her an Indian actress. Would it be fine if I link this conversation at WT:IN? Hoping others might help. MT TrainDiscuss 18:51, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, but I doubt the value of the above listed source. There are numerous articles referring to her as an Indian actress, which don't really explicit her nationality. That would be the case here too. VedantTalk 20:10, 20 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I'll leave this reference and mention the other three. MT TrainDiscuss 04:25, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you rather. VedantTalk 04:55, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much JimHolden, I really appreciate the help. VedantTalk 10:27, 21 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I look at Loev's FAC soon. BTW, I would very much like to review HBJ if you are planning to take it to GA, if that's alright. You can review KHNH when I've nominated it for GA.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 16:36, 22 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sure Ssven2, that'd be great. You must watch Happy Bhag Jayegi, if at all. Logic might not be the very dear to comedy films (especially Bollywood), but this one is a laugh riot and a pure delight all at once! VedantTalk 16:41, 22 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I do need to watch it as I must have knowledge of the articles I deal with in my reviews as it would help the reviewer have an in-depth understanding of the topic aka be a "keener pair of eyes". I'll also watch Loev too. BTW, have you seen KHNH? Silly me, of course you would have. I do think it is KJo's most mature script along with K3G and MNIK.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 16:46, 22 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I was a die hard Zinta fan growing up, so yes, I've seen pretty much everything that she has done. And, KHNH is one the finer ones of course! The other two, I could simply watch for Kajol! Also, do let me know once you are through with Loev and Happy; I'd love me a review. VedantTalk 16:52, 22 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Those dimples are to watch out for! Personally, I watched it (I've lost count of the number of times BTW) for her, SRK and Saif (who was brilliant, more than in DCH). My mom loves Kajol, she's a die-hard fan. The thing about Kajol is her comic timing and the way she makes her roles look believable. I mean, any young woman can identify with Simran from DDLJ.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 16:57, 22 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oh boy, I think we all get our Kajol love from out mums. xD But yes, you are absolutely on point! Her comic timing is crazy, especially her character in Kabhi Khush Kabhi Gam! VedantTalk 17:02, 22 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I need your help with KHNH's GA. Bollyjeff prefers a copyedit of the article and, in his own words: "if you could have another editor check the grammar I would feel better about it." So do help me out here.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 16:38, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ssven2, I've offered some quick copy-edits to article's major sections (Production, Release, and Reception). Considering the article's size, I think that it would still need substantial work, but that can be done at a later point. It should do for now IMO. Let me know if there is anything else. VedantTalk 18:50, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I do have some queries and suggestions, but I can discuss them later at the article's talk page, away from the time restrictions of the GAR, which it should pass. It is very thorough; you did a great job expanding the article. VedantTalk 18:55, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much, Vedant. The article has passed.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 07:07, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Done as requested.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 13:06, 30 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Vedant, isn't it time to create a separate filmography for Kalki Koechlin? She has 25+ films under her kitty now as well as 4 television appearances.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 10:17, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Idk Ssven2, I am never too sure about when it is the right time. Lists are just not my thing; Yashthepunisher had reservations when I created Knightley's Filmography (she has 30+ credits), but I mostly agreed with him. Also, I do not know how the article would look with a separate filmography, but the awards still in it. That'd be a little odd too. Maybe wait till both filmography and awards get there? Meanwhile, I'll try and come up with a comprehensive list of theatre credits as well. How you do feel about that? VedantTalk 12:47, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. Watched Padmaavat today. Jhakkas Ranveer Singh in full form! Can watch it at least once for his spirited, out-of-control, mad, crazy performance.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 16:55, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Ssven2: Oh, I believe that he's crazy alright in all his films. 😂 Not sure if I am going to watch Padmavat anytime soon; too many people at the movies at the moment. Maybe next week when the mania wears off. VedantTalk 17:01, 31 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Speaking of his craziness, take a look at this.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 15:14, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Ssven2, I finally got a chance to watch it. I see the crazy; although I must say it's another one of the gloriously unimpressive sagas. Also, the actors with restrain impressed me a lot more than the crazy lot. Sarbh and Hydari were magnetic with their measured performances. Even Shahid did just fine with whatever was given to him (No one can save the vo rajput speech though). I'd chose them over the crazy anyday. VedantTalk 18:13, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Margarita with a Straw editing questions

[edit]

So far, it's well written and clear, so my edits are minor. But you finish the plot with, 'a date outside, by herself'. I'm guessing the meaning is 'a day in the country, by herself'. I just wanted to alert you in case this is wrong and you need to rephrase it. JimHolden (talk) 22:13, 26 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes JimHolden, pretty much. VedantTalk 12:31, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I really need your help, Vedant. Eric Corbett has provided an oppose to the article on the grounds that its grammar has a rather "disjointed" and "staccato"-like style. Could you do me and Kailash the honour of performing a copyedit on the article to better it from the current version? Thank you.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 10:02, 8 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I see that Ssven2, I'll go through the article again later today. VedantTalk 10:06, 8 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Eric Corbett has struck off his oppose as per the article's current version. Thank you so much for your help, Vedant.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 12:58, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, Ssven2, you still might want to incorporate the changes that I made? I think the article reads better that way. Good luck with it now! VedantTalk 13:37, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You can do so, Vedant. Thank you.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 17:15, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I did, Ssven2. I also tried to make all the changes that have been made since, but that was a little tricky. You might have to take a look to make sure that everything is in order. I cannot seem to understand anymore, my brain might explode if I continue. 😅 VedantTalk 15:29, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have a feeling that we can shape the article better in a sandbox and paste it after expansion. Your call though.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 07:07, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Ssven2, considering that the most of it has to begin from scratch we should do that. Should we add the useful bits to the sandbox or start with a completelynew structure? VedantTalk 07:15, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
A completely new structure should be implemented IMHO. We can get a better flow in the prose that way. I've started a bit in the sandbox already.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 07:24, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2018 March newsletter

[edit]

And so ends the first round of the competition, with 4 points required to qualify for round 2. With 53 contestants qualifying, the groups for round 2 are slightly smaller than usual, with the two leaders from each group due to qualify for round 3 as well as the top sixteen remaining users.

Our top scorers in round 1 were:

  • United States Aoba47 led the field with a featured article, 8 good articles and 42 GARs, giving a total of 666 points.
  • Germany FrB.TG , a WikiCup newcomer, came next with 600 points, gained from a featured article and masses of bonus points.
  • India Ssven2, another WikiCup newcomer, was in third place with 403 points, garnered from a featured article, a featured list, a good article and twelve GARs.
  • United States Ceranthor, India Numerounovedant, Minnesota Carbrera, Netherlands Farang Rak Tham and Romania Cartoon network freak all had over 200 points, but like all the other contestants, now have to start again from scratch. A good achievement was the 193 GARs performed by WikiCup contestants, comparing very favourably with the 54 GAs they achieved.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.

If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. OrphanReferenceFixer: Help on reversion

[edit]

Hi there! I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. Recently, you reverted my fix to Nicholas Hoult.

If you did this because the references should be removed from the article, you have misunderstood the situation. Most likely, the article originally contained both <ref name="foo">...</ref> and one or more <ref name="foo"/> referring to it. Someone then removed the <ref name="foo">...</ref> but left the <ref name="foo"/>, which results in a big red error in the article. I replaced one of the remaining <ref name="foo"/> with a copy of the <ref name="foo">...</ref>; I did not re-insert the reference to where it was deleted, I just replaced one of the remaining instances. What you need to do to fix it is to make sure you remove all instances of the named reference so as to not leave any big red error.

If you reverted because I made an actual mistake, please be sure to also correct any reference errors in the page so I won't come back and make the same mistake again. Also, please post an error report at User talk:AnomieBOT so my operator can fix me! If the error is so urgent that I need to be stopped, also post a message at User:AnomieBOT/shutoff/OrphanReferenceFixer. Thanks!
