Hello I go to Clayton Valley and I saw that stuff on the page was incorrect specififcally the listing of our principal as John McMorris (which is incorrect as our principal is Jeff Anderson) and the Superintendent is not Dave Linzey (he was the executive director and he was fired)

Are you serious nominating Phantom Boy for deletion? Its overwhelmingly notable, a quick Google search will tell you that. I added a quote Obama said to his page and someone removed it as they said not every gaffe needs to be mentioned. So I followed that principle and removed a gaffe from Ben Shapiro's page to which people seem to say that is not okay. @Dy3o2:, here's my take, for what it's worth. The article on Obama chronicles his entire life, but highlights that he is an attorney, politician, and the 44th president. In that article, there is a small paragraph regarding his stance on gun control. His gaffe did not contradict his stance on gun control, it overstated the simplicity in children purchasing guns. Since his article is not about him being a gun control activist, your addition lends undue weight to his gaffe (see WP:RSUW which will explain this in more detail). On the other hand, the interview with Shapiro was about two major portions of the article (that he is a commentator and author) as Shapiro's notoriety comes from him being "a political commentator, public speaker, author, and lawyer." I agree that it was fair to remove the portion of Obama's gaffe, but I also think that the BBC interview was not important enough to mention since he has done many interviews, but I will try to talk about it on the talk page. @Dy3o2: I see you found the talk page and started the conversation. I just put my two cents in. The Ben Shapiro article and it's talk page should now be in your watchlist (links at the very top right of your screen). You can click on the link to see the status of any changes made to pages you've edited (bold means the current edit is yours, an empty dot means no changes have been made since the last time you looked at the page, and a filled dot means there have been changes). I just looked at the source editor of pages when I came across signatures I liked, and copied/mixed/matched elements from the signatures I liked. You can mess around with the stuff you copy in your sandbox to get it to look the way you like. Now, I like the ones I see that look sort of 3D with a shadow behind them, but I'm happy enough with that I have, and can't really be bothered to change it again. Mostly, it's nice to be able to scan a page and be able to quickly find my edits (I picked a color that isn't used often). Orville1974 (talk) 09:20, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

        Respected sir,           On Shamsheer vayalil's wikipedia infobox the name of two medical colleges are given. First medical college is KASTURBA MEDICAL COLLEGE, MANIPAL and second is SRI RAMACHANDRA MEDICAL COLLEGE AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE,CHENNAI.Before clicking on the link of second college I felt that "Chennai" is a part of college name but it was not so. I think that the comma between the second college name and it's location name should be removed and instead of that preposition ("in") should be added in between them (see early life paragraph there, how the college name and its location are written).           I shall be greatly obliged and thankful to you.  Note: This preposition "in" should be added between "Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute and it's location Chennai" present in infobox(alma mater column).

For now, just sit tight. I've referred the matter to the Copyright Cleanup Unit (CCU), a group of people who are skilled at discerning which edits are copyrighted and removing them from the article's history. In the case of the article specifically, you are to be commended for bring this up, but in a closer look through the history I see that one of the editors who added a massive amount of material to the article has been blocked as a sock account. Hi again. You'll notice that none of the information in the current article is derived from your website. Self-published sources are not considered reliable for inclusion in Wikipedia, nor is the encyclopedia article intended to be a brochure for the company. That does mean that there is usually a delay between when something happens (like annual revenue changes or business locations), and when (or even if) third-party sources address the changes. Thanks, Orville 1974 for answering my questions. I asked how to submit an article and how and what to footnote. Ive written an article about an actress named Susan Angelo who has mainly worked on stage, but who has also worked in film and TV. She has extensive work as a theater administrator and director and educator. She has appeared frequently on stage at Will Geer's Theatricum Botanicum near Los Angeles; Wikipedia already has articles about other actors from this theater, as well as the theater itself. Susan helped to create the educational programs at the theater and administered them for several decades. I'm very familiar with Wikipedia's articles about actors, and believe that my article conforms to the model which seems to characterize them. I've also read the guidelines about writing articles, and about citing sources. However, my computer skills are very basic, so my questions to you are technical; I'm confident that the article has a good chance to be accepted, but I literally don't know how to submit it, technically. So, the word "dzongkhag" is supposed to be italicized but not in the quotations right? In the Election Act, it isn't it italicized, so it shouldn't it be capitalized in the quote too, right? Hi! @TryKid: I think I fixed the quotes in reference one just now. It's capitalized in the quote because that's the way it is in the source material (Chapter 2, page 20). Oof. I meant italicized not capitalised. My first message is a mess. Very sorry. So here's the thing. The word "Dzongkhag" is always italicized no matter what. Now since it's always italicized, in the explanatory note (efn), it should be in quotes or something, along with the word "district"? Right? Now, in the second paragraph, it directly quotes material from Election Commission. In the Election Commission material, the word "dzongkhag" isn't italicized, along with some other grammar mistakes. There's a [sic] tag for the grammar mistake. That means we quote the material without change or mistake correction. So in the second paragraph where it quotes "provided that no Dzongkhag shall have less than..." the word "Dzongkhag" shouldn't be italicized since it isn't italicized in the original text. It needs to be de-itlicized, right? And the explanatory footnotes. They were probably correct before you edited them. I've no idea. TryKid (talk) 21:32, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again @TryKid: The manual of style (WP:MOS) allows for minor changes to quotes (even though we're used to hearing, "Don't change enything [sic]!" See what I did there? So on that page, the quote's wording is way off the meaning, but since it's from a legal document, I wasn't comfortable changing it, so I left the odd wording and added [sic]. MOS:SIC talks about what can be changed in direct quotes and what should be left alone: "If there is a significant error in the original statement, use [sic] or the template [sic] (produces a note like [sic] ) to show that the error was not made by Wikipedia." So that's why you see sic in the quote. Toward the bottom of that section, it says: "In direct quotations, retain dialectal and archaic spellings, including capitalization.". The capitalized Dzongkhag might be a style of the language where it's capitalized even when it's use i tn that context in English is not. I know in German, there are a lot of words like that. So I left the capitalization alone, and just italicized it per the manual of style. It's just a style guide, so if you'd like to change it to lowercase, I don't think anyone will find fault with it. The style guide does mention adding [emphasis added] when italicizing something, but I left that off since we're not emphasizing the word, we're just conforming to Wikipedia's requirement that foreign words be in italics. So maybe an emphasis added tag might still be the best way to show why it's capitalized but in italics? Hi! Great work with your copy editing. I went over Materialism and have a couple little notes. This is pretty minor MOS stuff:

  • Date ranges. You made some changes like 600 BC – 100 BC600 BC–100 BC. Normally the en dash in ranges is unspaced, except when either (or both) elements include a space. (There's a little on this in the main MOS between MOS:ENTO and MOS:ENBETWEEN, and some more in the numbers MOS at MOS:DATERANGE.) So the original was right, though I changed it to "600–100 BC" since it wouldn't make sense for the first date to be AD/CE (ie: the BC applies to both ends of the range).   • Critique of Pure Reason gets italics as the title of a major work.

General Sherman incident:

  • They departed Chefoo (present day Yantai), China on August 9, 1866 and arrived on the coast of Korea on August 16, 1866. There was a missing comma after China and 1866 (see MOS:GEOCOMMA/MOS:DATECOMMA in the main MOS).

Pretty minor stuff. These sorts of issues are pretty common in articles, so copy editors should be fairly familiar with the MOS on commas and dashes. I hope you receive this constructively. I'm afraid you'll run into the same frustrations the prior editor did regarding the Porygon draft at Draft Talk:Porygon. If you follow the conversation on that page, you'll see that it wasn't a lack of sources, it was that the sources the editor found were either not considered reliable enough for Wikipedia standards (WP:RS), or there was not enough coverage in them (WP:SIGCOV) to meet Wikipedia notability standards WP:N. The link to the last version of the Groudon article before it was overwritten as a redirect [1] will show you that quite a bit of content was written by multiple editors, but it wasn't sufficient to retain the Groudon article the last time it was created. I found a big mistake. the mistake is on the FNaF 1 & FNaF 2 articles. I don't think so. What I basically did was copy the old page that was created in 2008 and tilted "Tracey Ullman Takes On New York" and created a new one with the "on" lowercase. I pasted what was on the former page and put it on the new one. Then I went back to the old one and put a redirect link to the new. OK. I'm fixing it now. Copy/paste moves cause us to lose the history of edits. They're against policy. In the future, to rename a page, you just do a page move (pulldown menu option) from the old name to the new name. No worries. Cut/paste just creates a lot of issues (and risks us losing history). So there are three articles (one duplicate in draftspace, and one duplicate in mainspace). I've tagged them for speedy delete. Once that's done, I'll let you know and you'll be able to move the Tracey Ullman Take On New York with a capital O to the same name with a lower case o. You do that by going up to the More V tab and selecting move, then typing the move name exactly as it should appear. Once you save changes, the article will be titled the way it should be. On a side note, a redirect will automatically be created from the old capital O to the new lower case o as well. Questions about removal

I am a little confused as to why you removed the two articles I posted this week (Clint Pulver and Ty Bennett). You cited "Not ready for mainspace. Needs secondary sources demonstrating notability" but each of the articles have several secondary sources to back the claims made. The "primary" sources that you deleted were indeed secondary sources, but the titles for those articles were often the name of the subject because in the speaking industry biographical pages are posted. There are dozens of other secondary sources that I didn't add because the biographies are often redundant... so it's common knowledge across the web what the speaker's accomplishments are.

I chose these two speakers/authors for inclusion in Wikipedia precisely because they are among the most notable speakers worldwide and I was shocked they didn't have pages. Clint started a significant university organization, has appeared in several movies, and is one of the most recognized keynote speakers in north America. Ty has three best-selling books, was the co-founder of a $20 million/annual revenue company, and is also one of the most noted speakers in the industry.

Can you please explain to me why these accomplishments aren't notable? Like I said, I believe there should be more speakers represented in Wikipedia which is why I sought out the most notable and I had hoped to add another one or two that aren't there, but don't want to spend another afternoon doing research just to have it pulled. I'm not saying they're not notable, but the sources in the article don't demonstrate that they're notable. To do that, you'll need to include independent, third-party reliable sources to demonstrate that the individuals meet general notability guidelines. The sources currently included are local and/or primary sources (out of the mouth of the subject). For some basic facts, primary sources are usually considered reliable, but not to demonstrate notability. For that you'll need to show significant coverage of others talking about them not of them talking about themselves. Publishing a book, autobiographies, press releases, etc. are the subject of the article talking. Book reviews, news coverage, and reviews of their speeches, published in reliable sources, show others talking about them (which is what these articles need more of). I removed republished autobiographies. Those are still primary (and sometimes, at best, secondary sources), as are interviews and other formats of the subject's words being republished. The articles need other unrelated parties (third-parties, independent of the subject) talking about the subject, not republishing the subject's words. Success in your city

There was an almost identical article , and draft/. This is unfortunately not an uncommon situation ,caused when people move their own drafts into mainspace w outside of the AFCH process. We are tryign to find a systematic way of dealign with this. In this case, the draft seems to have been the development verision of the article, and the general response in such situations is to keep the article if iot is at all satisfactory, and refdirect the draft ot the article talk page, which is what would happen if the afch process had been properly followed. (There is a complication here; if the article should have remained in draft space , because it is unlikely to be accepted in afd, it might seem advisable to remove the article, and keep the draft. But if the article has had any improvments at all, the best version is the one that should be kept. I have therefore kept the article and redirected the draft. I agree with you that notability is uncertain., and it is not clear that the regional Emmy is sufficient. We could of course send it back to draft, but maybe afd would be better. I leave that up to you.

Reading what I've just written, I recognize it sounds a little confusing--because the right course to take is in fact uncertain and confusing. . Hi. Just a note to thank you for some really brilliant replies at the Teahouse in recent weeks. I hope you didn't mind me tweaking your recent reply here. Rather than writing "<nowiki>[[Category:Superhero films featuring female antagonists]]</nowiki>", you can include a colon and type "[[:Category:Superhero films featuring female antagonists]]" which renders as Category:Superhero films featuring female antagonists. This creates a functional link to the relevant Category, but doesn't add the talk page to that Category. (At least, I hope it doesn't, or else I shall feel, ermm, like an idiot!).

This was something another editor pointed out to me when I accidentally added a talk page to a publicly visible Category some while back. I hope that my edit to your reply is OK with you. I have adopted your use of the 'helped' template, as I think it makes it quick and easy to identify questions that haven't been fully answered, as well as showing that we are, indeed, here to help. Thanks for the note on my attempted edits to correct this page. Apologies for being new here - I thought I was making corrections to the page and was unaware of the 3 edits rule. Another editor since protected the page. I explained why the edits are correct but that editor hasn't responded again and so I am not sure how to gain consensus. Can you please help? Thanks for all of your help. On July 1, 2019 you let me know that you had added back text I had removed from the NACHA page. My intention was to update the page to reflect the organizations new CEO/President. I've gone back in and made the update again and this time I included a description of the change with links to source material. They've also got a new logo but I'm not 100% sure how to update that. If you can provide any guidance on that front it would be greatly appreciated.

Guild of Copy Editors September 2019 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to the September newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since June 2019.

June election: Reidgreg was chosen as lead coordinator, and is being assisted by Baffle gab1978, Miniapolis, Tdslk, and first-time coordinator Twofingered Typist. Jonesey95 took a respite after serving for six years. Thanks to everyone who participated!

June Blitz: From 16 to 22 June, we copy edited articles on the themes of nature and the environment along with requests. 12 participating editors completed 35 copy edits. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

July Drive: The year's fourth backlog-elimination drive was a great success, clearing all articles tagged in January and February, and bringing the copy-editing backlog to a low of five months and a record low of 585 articles while also completing 48 requests. Of the 30 people who signed up, 29 copyedited at least one article, a participation level last matched in May 2015. Final results and awards are listed here.

August Blitz: From 18 to 24 August, we copy edited articles tagged in March 2019 and requests. 12 participating editors completed 26 copy edits on the blitz. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: As of 03:00, 23 September 2019 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors had processed 413 requests since 1 January. The backlog of tagged articles stood at 599 articles, close to our record month-end low of 585.

Requests page: We are experimenting with automated archiving of copy edit requests; a discussion on REQ Talk (permalinked) initiated by Bobbychan193 has resulted in Zhuyifei1999 writing a bot script for the Guild. Testing is now underway and is expected to be completed by 3 October; for this reason, no manual archiving of requests should be done until the testing period is over. We will then assess the bot's performance and discuss whether to make this arrangement permanent.

September Drive: Our current backlog-elimination drive is open until 23:59 on 30 September (UTC) and is open to all copy editors. Sign up today!

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Guild of Copy Editors December 2019 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to the December 2019 GOCE newsletter, an update of Guild happenings since the September edition. Our Annual Report should be ready in late January.

Election time: Nominations for the election of a new tranche of Guild coordinators to serve for the first half of 2020 will be open from 1 to 15 December. Voting will then take place and the election will close on 31 December at 23:59 UTC. Positions for Guild coordinators, who perform the important behind-the-scenes tasks that keep our project running smoothly, are open to all Wikipedians in good standing. We welcome self-nominations so please consider nominating yourself if you've ever thought about helping out; it's your Guild and it doesn't run itself!

September Drive: Of the thirty-two editors who signed up, twenty-three editors copy edited at least one article; they completed 39 requests and removed 138 articles from the backlog, bringing the backlog to a low of 519 articles.

October Blitz: This event ran from 13 to 19 October, with themes of science, technology and transport articles tagged for copy edit, and Requests. Sixteen editors helped remove 29 articles from the backlog and completed 23 requests.

November Drive: Of the twenty-eight editors who signed up for this event, twenty editors completed at least one copy edit; they completed 29 requests and removed 133 articles from the backlog.

Our December Blitz will run from 15 to 21 December. Sign up now!

Progress report: From September to November 2019, GOCE copy editors processed 154 requests. Over the same period, the backlog of articles tagged for copy editing was reduced by 41% to an all-time low of 479 articles.

Request archiving: The archiving of completed requests has now been automated. Thanks to Zhuyifei1999 and Bobbychan193, YiFeiBot is now archiving the Requests page. Archiving occurs around 24 hours after a user's signature and one of the templates {{Done}}, {{Withdrawn}} or {{Declined}} are placed below the request. The bot uses the Guild's standard "purpose codes" to determine the way it should archive each request so it's important to use the correct codes and templates.

English and French page information different on Bio page

Hello, I'd like to have a change made to Denis Pardis's English page [1], to match information found on his French page [2] however, I'm having trouble since the TALK page is in use with other requested changes [3] and is a BIO page. The addition would be just as written in French "Denis Paradis travaille depuis 20062 comme avocat-conseil pour le cabinet québécois Dunton Rainville. Il est aussi propriétaire d'un vignoble dans la région de Saint-Armand, le Domaine du Ridge5". The English addition would be "Denis Paradis joined Dunton Rainville’s Montreal offices in 2006 as legal counsel". How can this be done? Thank you. Guild of Copy Editors March 2020 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to the March newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since December 2019. All being well, we're planning to issue these quarterly in 2020, balancing the need to communicate widely with the avoidance of filling up talk pages. Don't forget you can unsubscribe at any time; see below.

Election results: There was little changeover in the roster of Guild Coordinators, with Miniapolis stepping down with distinction as a coordinator emeritus while Jonesey95 returned as lead coordinator. The next election is scheduled for June 2020 and all Wikipedians in good standing may participate.

January Drive: Thanks to everyone for the splendid work, completing 215 copy edits including 56 articles from the Requests page and 116 backlog articles from the target months of June to August 2019. At the conclusion of the drive there was a record low of 323 articles in the copy editing backlog. Of the 27 editors who signed up for the drive, 21 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

February Blitz: Of the 15 editors who signed up for this one-week blitz, 13 completed at least one copy edit. A total of 32 articles were copy edited, evenly split between the twin goals of requests and the oldest articles from the copy-editing backlog. Full results are here.

March Drive: Currently underway, this event is targeting requests and backlog articles from September to November 2019. As of 18 March, the backlog stands at a record low of 253 articles and is expected to drop further as the drive progresses. Awards will be given to everyone who copyedits at least one article from the backlog. Help set a new record and sign up now!

Progress report: As of 18 March, GOCE copyeditors have completed 161 requests in 2020 and there was a net reduction of 385 articles from the copy-editing backlog – a 60% decrease from the beginning of the year. Well done and thank you everyone!

Election reminder: It may only be March but don't forget our mid-year Election of Coordinators opens for nominations on 1 June. Coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. Current events

Election time: Nomination of candidates in our mid-year Election of Coordinators opened on 1 June, and voting will take place from 00:01 on 16 June. GOCE coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Self-nominations are welcome. If you've thought about helping out at the Guild, or you know of another editor who would make a good coordinator, please consider standing for election or nominating them here.

June Blitz: This blitz begins at 00:01 on 14 June and ends at 23:59 on 20 June, with themes of articles tagged for copyedit in May 2020 and requests.

Drive and blitz reports

March Drive: Self-isolation from coronavirus may have played a hand in making this one of our most successful backlog elimination drives. The copy-editing backlog was reduced from 477 to a record low of 118 articles, a 75% reduction. The last four months of 2019 were cleared, reducing the backlog to three months. Fifty requests were also completed, and the total word count of copy-edited articles was 759,945. Of the 29 editors who signed up, 22 completed at least one copy edit. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

April Blitz: This blitz ran from 12 to 18 April with a theme of Indian military history. Of the 18 people who signed up, 14 copyedited at least one article. Participants claimed a total of 60 copyedits. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

May Drive: This event marked the 10th anniversary of the GOCE's copy-editing drives, and set a goal of diminishing the backlog to just one month of articles, as close to zero articles as possible. We achieved the goal of eliminating all articles that had been tagged prior to the start of the drive, for the first time in our history! Of the 51 editors who signed up, 43 copyedited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Other news

Progress report: as of 2 June, GOCE participants had processed 328 requests since 1 January, which puts us on pace to exceed any previous year's number of requests. As of the end of the May drive, the backlog stood at just 156 articles, all tagged in May 2020.

Outreach: To mark the 10th anniversary of our first Backlog Elimination Drive, The Signpost contributor and GOCE participant Puddleglum2.0 interviewed project coordinators and copy-editors for the journal's April WikiProject Report. The Drive and the current Election of Coordinators have also been covered in The Signpost's May News and Notes page.
