Hi again.

The sign in the infobox for Hartford Union Station is the incorrect style. The red stripe is supposed to be thinner and the text should be centered according to Google Maps photos.

@Pedroperezhumberto: The infobox styles are meant to roughly replicate the actual signs; they don't have to be pixel-perfect. While it's a good idea to get the main details right (color of the text, stripe location, etc), I don't think slight differences in stripe width are worth replicating. @DragonofBatley: As I said on your talk page, you need to read and digest the notability policy. All of the station articles you are creating fail the notability requirements, which means you should not create them. As an experienced editor, you should know better.

@DragonofBatley: Adding numerous sources with trivial mentions of the subject does not establish notability - see WP:REFBOMB. If there is not significant coverage of a subject, it's better to add information to a broader article (in these cases, the railway line) rather than trying to prop up a tiny article. @Transitdragon: Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! That scan was from eBay, which unfortunately scales images to 1600 pixels wide. I just found a slightly better scan (1700px with better colors) that is now up on that same file page, but I haven't been able to find anything larger or in a lossless format. Your best bet for that might be to buy one of the postcards and scan it yourself; from a quick look I see a number of cheap listings including ones at $4 and $5. Do you know anything about the Walnut Hill Station in Dedham, along the NY, NH, & H railroad? This map shows it, about a third of the way over from the left. Look under the large B in "Fairbanks Park." My best guess, if it actually existed, would be that was about here. The map shows a few proposed streetcars, but doesn't say anything about about this being proposed. I've never heard of it before, have you? @Slugger O'Toole: It did in fact exist, and your location guess is accurate. It's not a terribly well-documented station. The earliest mention I find is 1874, and there was a station building by 1876. It may have been called "Mill Village" before that, but it doesn't show on any earlier maps. It was renamed East Dedham sometime between 1900 and 1907; it appears the post office was renamed in 1901. It was a stop up until Dedham Branch service ended in 1967. Boston's Commuter Rail: Second Section has an undated photo on page 31. It's consistent with what's shown on Sanborn maps - an island platform with a small wooden station between the tracks, and steps up to the Walnut Street bridge.

As you may have surmised, that "proposed belt line electric railroad" was never built. The only streetcar line to enter that part of Dedham was an Old Colony Street Railway line on Walnut, Oakdale, and Cobbler, built after 1900. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 09:10, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think you may be misreading the article. That map you linked is correct - Oakdale/Ashcroft was located at Dale Street on the NY&NE (now the Franklin Line). It's also shown on the 1876 map. The location I put Ashcroft in on that map's based on one of the maps at the back of my copy of Boston's Commuter Rail: The First 150 Years, which puts Ashcroft on (what's now) the Franklin Line between Readville and Endicott. @SSR07: I deleted the section because it was wildly out of date, and I don't see a need to have multiple years of by-mode ridership. (That is better kept as tabular data in the Data: namespace on Commons.) Additionally, two-thirds of the section was solely about the MBTA subway, rather than the MBTA as a whole. The historical subway ridership data might be worth adding on the MBTA subway article, but the list of busiest stations comes across as trivia to me.

The MBTA article needs a wholesale overall - much of it is out of date, and it has excessive detail on some subjects and not enough on others. I'm not opposed to discussing ridership by mode in the article, and you're welcome to create a new section. I would recommend having it be a level-3 subsection under the "Services" section rather than a level-2 section. I would recommend just having a single chart of current daily ridership by mode, perhaps with a comparison to pre-covid numbers. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 01:45, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@That Coptic Guy: Thank you!! I mostly use a Panasonic Lumix DC-ZS70 (a compact superzoom) and a Samsung Galaxy S10 phone. Neither is exactly top-of-the-line, but they're sufficient for my purposes. @HangingCurve: Please refer to WP:COMMONNAME. We generally do not move articles on rail stations when they are given ceremonial names unless the ceremonial name becomes the common name. Good morning. As it stands now, Wikipedia is pretty complete as far as documenting the mainline railroads that operated in San Francisco. The exceptions are the myriad street railways (which may never really be done, but what's being done with the New York streetcar lines is quite impressive, so maybe) and those aren't mainline railways anyway, and the WP branch. It's been devilishly hard for me to find any reliable sources on the internet for that railroad outside of some maps. @Mjdestroyerofworlds: Unfortunately, I don't know of any good coverage of the WP and Santa Fe freight lines in San Francisco. When Steam Ran on the Streets of San Francisco only covers passenger operations so it doesn't go into any detail on the lines. You might have to assemble it primarily from newspaper clippings - there seems to have been a decent amount of coverage of the construction of the Potrero Hill tunnel. I noticed you had previously altered this map file previously portraying the original South Line for the San Diego Trolley. However, I've noticed that it's still missing the station at "San Diego Square", which opened as part of the initial line and was located between the "Gaslamp" and "City College" stations on this particular map. Thanks for your attention to the erstwhile UMass Donahue Institute, but I’m not sure a redirect without further effort is a good solution. For one thing, there is no mention of the institute in at University of Massachusetts Amherst, and yet, the institute is clearly notable, as it is frequently cited in many news articles[2] related to many kinds of public policy in New England. Your point that the references are insufficient is definitely true, however — all the references were from the org’s own site, what was I thinking?? @Babbage: Thanks for reaching out. I happened across the article while doing new page patrol. As a reminder, notability requires significant coverage about the subject itself. While there's lots of articles that mention studies by the institute, only one of them discusses the institute itself at all, and not in enough detail to base an article on. (It's also a press release by the state government, which may not quite meet the "independent" criterion of WP:GNG.) Unless you're able to find some independent sources that have substantial coverage about the institute itself, I would recommend just having a paragraph at University of Massachusetts Amherst rather than creating a separate article.
