John S. Collins[edit]

I see you made an edit to the talk page for John S. Collins adding him to an Indiana project page. What connection does he have with Indiana? Also, whenever you make an edit please give an Edit Summary so people can easily see what you are doing. - GroveGuy (talk) 02:46, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As best I can figure out, Collins made a one time deal with Fisher during the development of Miami Beach; $50,000 for 200 acres. Fisher was from Indiana, but Collins was from New Jersey. I don't think Collins had any connection to Indiana or any other dealings with Fisher. - GroveGuy (talk) 16:50, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello![edit]

Rosalina523, so glad to see the IHS on Wikipedia at last. I have not been incredibly active over the last year, but want to welcome you to the community. I am the primary author of probably 75% of the Indiana History articles on Wikipedia. I have since 2004 been asking representative of the IHS to utilize Wikipedia to some extent. I would love to collaborate on writing on almost any topic of Hoosier History, or you input on anything I have wrote in the past. Most specifically, the article History of Indiana has been something I've had a long time goal of getting to featured status. It is very close I feel, primarily just needing some work on the state's more recent history.

At any rate, welcome to Wikipedia, and so glad to see another editor intersted in Indiana History. :) —Charles Edward (Talk | Contribs) 22:49, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mostly all I have done lately is try to maintain the quality articles in the project. High quality articles gradually deteriorate over time unless they are tended to regularly. I was thinking about picking up on a article where I left off some time ago: Indianapolis Streetcar Strike of 1913. I have essentially, since about 2004, tried to start at the beginning of Indiana history and improve quality on the high importance articles. I have got up to the turn of the 19th century when I went into semi-retirement. I think a year long protest has been about enough though. :) Time to resume editing. —Charles Edward (Talk | Contribs) 14:43, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Help to re-establish my sandbox[edit]

I have moved it back into your user space at User:Rosalina523/Harvey N. Middleton, and cleared User:Rosalina523/sandbox so that it is now a blank sandbox ready for anything else you want to put there. JohnCD (talk) 18:06, 30 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

New Harmony[edit]

Hi there. I've been working on Owenite communities and Fourierist associations lately and I've discovered that New Harmony is a bit of a mess (see my views on the talk page there). Do you have theoretical problems with shattering that piece into its constituent pieces? The Owenite Community element needs a makeover and the coverage of the extant town gets lost in all the history... There's definitely enough sourcing to do the Rappite community on its own terms as well. Drop me a line and let me know if you're interested. best, —Tim /// Carrite (talk) 18:44, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I just want to notify there are some articles for reasessment on Wikipedia talk:GLAM/Indiana Historical Society. Most of the cases have now a rating by other projects, so it might be easy to reassess the noted articles, just to update the project.--Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 20:09, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

The Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument[edit]

Hi. I'm accumulating material for a planned article on English architect Percy Stone, who was active in London in the late 19th century. I noticed that Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument (Indianapolis) states that Percy Stone, of London, England, received $500 for his second-prize entry. with Rose (1971) p.46 as the source. Do you happen to have access to that book at the moment? – If so, could you let me know whether there is any other information on that page about Stone? It seems likely that it was the same man, but I'm not quite sure yet! Thanks, Hassocks5489 (Floreat Hova!) 12:20, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for your response. I'll see what else I can find out, but it looks like it could well be the same architect. He was certainly active here by that date. Hassocks5489 (Floreat Hova!) 14:53, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

women's club etc[edit]

Hi, I happened to notice your edit to List of women's club buildings (because i get notification because a long time ago i created the list-article i guess) adding The Propylaeum (John W. Schmidt House) there; I just added a bit to the latter article so that it at least mentions the topic. It would be great if you chose to add more.

I see also you've done a lot of improvement to Gene Stratton-Porter Cabin, i.e. in this combo diff. I only wish you were able to use inline citations which would automatically appear in a references list, rather than appending a whole list of references. The way you have done it, it is not possible for any other editor to know which information in the article is supported by which source, and it might be apprpriate for me or anyone else to tag it negatively with {{morefootnotes}}, which would display "This article includes a list of references, but its sources remain unclear because it has insufficient inline citations. Please help to improve this article by introducing more precise citations. (April 2018) (Learn how and when to remove this template message)". It might be easy for you right now to know which paragraph or sentence was supported by which source, and to use inline citations, i.e. enclosing the reference by <ref></ref> and placing it right at the end of the paragraph or sentence. Also you can "name" a reference so that it can be invoked again, e.g. for

<ref name=Bennett> {{cite journal| author=Bennett, Pamela J., ed. | title =Gene Stratton-Porter | journal =The Indiana Historian | volume = | issue = | pages = | publisher =Indiana Historial Bureau | location =Indianapolis | date =September 1996| url = http://www.in.gov/history/files/genestrattonporter.pdf | accessdate =July 21, 2017}}</ref>

you could invoke that once,[1] then invoke it again[1] and again[1] without writing it all out again (by simply <ref name=Bennett/>, and with it appearing in references section as:

You might think that it is being overly precise / too picky to try to identify which specific sentence is supported by which source, but it actually helps in a collaborative encyclopedia article which develops over a long time. Hope you don't mind my commenting; any which way I do appreciate your contributing. sincerely, --Doncram (talk) 21:00, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Actually i see i was wrong about my concern there, I didn't see u were using notes separately than the reference list, oops. Thanks anyhow! --Doncram (talk) 21:09, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you v. much for developing The Propylaeum article! I boldly went ahead and moved it, from its NRHP listing name which happened to be a mouthful, to simply "The Propylaeum", which seems to be its common name since it became the women's club a long time ago. --Doncram (talk) 16:11, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

An article that you have been involved in editing—List of Masonic buildings in the United States —has been proposed for merging with another article. If you are interested, please participate in the merger discussion. Thank you. Doncram (talk) 16:32, 22 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, that message is from an automatic template. You actually edited at a different list of clubhouses. This merger vs. split proposal is about dividing by geography or by other status, for a list of clubhouses. Your participation would be welcome. --Doncram (talk) 16:34, 22 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

WCNA 2018 - Proposal acceptance, action needed![edit]

Hello! Kevin from WikiConference North America, here to discuss your proposal. I know this notice is coming to you fairly close to the conference, which I apologize for - unfortunately, any emails sent to your listed Indiana History email bounced, so I'm contacting you through here.

Your proposal has been accepted for WikiConference North America 2018, and is listed on our schedule for 2-3 PM on Saturday in Track 4 (Thompson 150B, 28 seats). Please let me know if whether are planning to attend the conference and will be presenting, and if the assigned time works for you. If you'd like to see any changes, just let me know. If you could confirm by Friday night, that would be much appreciated!

On another note, registration is also open through this link if you plan on attending.

Thank you! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 01:05, 21 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2018 election voter message[edit]

Hello, Rosalina523. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Event coordinator granted[edit]

After reviewing your request for the "eventcoordinator" permission, I have enabled the flag on your account. Keep in mind these things:

  • The event coordinator right removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24-hour period.
  • The event coordinator right allows you to temporarily add the "confirmed" permission to newly created accounts. You should not grant this for more than 10 days.
  • The event coordinator right is not a status symbol. If it remains unused, it is likely to be removed. Abuse of the event coordinator right will result in its removal by an administrator.
  • Please note, if you were previously a member of the "account creator" group, your flag may have been converted to this new group.

If you no longer require the right, let me know, or ask any other administrator. Drop a note on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of the event coordinator right. Happy editing! — xaosflux Talk 00:24, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

2019 US Banknote Contest[edit]

US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

I just finished updating the horrific article we had on Rosika Schwimmer and have started an article on the World Center for Women's Archives, which Beard ran for 5 years. When I went to Beard's article to see if there were any additional sources I could use, I was thrilled to see the recent improvements you have made to the article. I do not know if you are aware of the sister project to Women in Red, known as Women in Green, but I would love to see you nominate Beard for GA. One of our initiatives for this year in tandem with the WiR suffrage editathon is to nominate 20 articles on suffragists before the end of the year. I think that with all the work you have put into improving the article already, only a few citations in the death and legacy section would be needed. If you decide not to nominate it, I still think it is important to thank you and acknowledge your improvement of the article. SusunW (talk) 20:53, 30 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
