Couette Flow

[edit]

This article has experienced a flurry of recent edits. There are some concerns and ideas I've penned at Talk:Couette flow and I thought I'd ask if you'd take a look, given your considerable past input on this article. Thanks, Agricola44 (talk) 01:51, 30 March 2017 (UTC).[reply]

Mansoor Ahamed Khan

[edit]

Dear Saleh, Mansoor Ahamed Khan ia an article about an architect who is playing a key role in providing one of the basic needs of mankind. He is one of the few architects from coimbatore, India getting recognized because of his innovative designs in architecture. He also won a National award for his futuristic proposal and his science museum project was nominated for an international award at florence. So please consider this article. Thank you —Preceding unsigned comment added by Makinnovations (talkcontribs) 14:12, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thekkepuram

[edit]

Hi Salih, you seem to be a person who could improve Thekkepuram and Mishkal Mosque. Could you please look for some pictures of the mosque which can be used? Cheers Zencv Whisper 22:24, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It’s great that you've created the article on Mishkal Mosque. Thanks Zencv. As for the pictures, there are few in the web, but I am not sure about the copyrights. Anyway, when I visit Calicut next time, surely I’ll take some snaps myself. Cheers. Salih (talk) 03:49, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I saw many images of Mishkal mosque, but not sure whether any of them would be acceptable under fair use. I see good potential for expansion of Thekkepuram article(esp. cuisine section and history section) as they are rather underdeveloped. Cheers Zencv Whisper 22:45, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's the problem with images. Agree that Thekkepuram article has lot of scope for furhter expansion. Will work on it some time later. Thanks. Salih (talk) 03:31, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orifice plate

[edit]

Hi Salih, I've just noticed, that you undid my external links in Orifice plate and Kármán vortex street because of spam. Before we end up of philosophizing on which is spam and which is not I'd like to ask you to have a look at the discussions on User talk:XLinkBot I have allready undergone. Bud once again my understanding of a global encyclopedia for everybody is that it shouldn't be limited to a academical collection of formulas. When there is a chance of having the theory explained in a admittedly simplified, but more visual way we should definitely make use of it. This is my intention (next to the fact, that I'm very fond of good 3D animations) and not spamming. I hope this clears up the sky a little bit. I wish you a nice day. --Ursus.Bear (talk) 09:18, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I saw the video clips on the YouTube before undoing your edits. Though the video was interesting, I thought it was promoting a company/organization. If you have added those links in good faith, please feel free to revert my edits. Cheers. Salih (talk) 09:29, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your feedback. Yes I believe in pictures. So I will revert your edits. Greetings --Ursus.Bear (talk) 12:39, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is this novelist notable? Thanks in advance. Paalappoo (talk) 05:03, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He is a well known novelist, but in Wikipedia sense, the notability is rather weak for the lack of sufficient RS. I have !voted a weak keep in the AfD. Cheers! Salih (talk) 05:08, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Paalappoo (talk) 05:40, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Good enough for me. Cheers. ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:10, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Salih (talk) 06:13, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I started this article as a sort of experiment related to the Joy J. Kaimaparamban AfD discussion. I picked Kainikkara Padmanabha Pillai at random from the list of authors published by DC Books, which did not have an entry for Joy J. Kaimaparamban although the article says DC Books published his works. I wanted to see whether, as I suspected, it would be easy enough to find sources on a published Malayalam author. It was. The article on his brother Kainikkara Kumara Pillai followed naturally. I will try a third, then go back to the AfD and comment there. Not seeing it very positively at this stage. Aymatth2 (talk) 18:42, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's wonderful, at least, AfD of Joy J. Kaimaparamban has yielded two good articles! Cheers. Salih (talk) 18:57, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Verification

[edit]

Hi, I wanted to ask regarding the 'orphan' tag in article S P Vaid. It transparently states that "This biography of a living person needs additional references or sources for verification", but if you look at the article, almost 18 references have been provided as such which clearly verify and confirm the facts provided. I just wanted to ask, whether what I am saying is right? and should I go ahead and remove the tag or is there anything else that I should know? Kindly help. Regards, *Truth* 11:31, 3 January 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by JK-RULZ (talkcontribs)

  • And yes, the article is already mentioned to be a stub in the end (of the article), so is the 'orphan' tag still required? *Truth* 11:39, 3 January 2010 (UTC) JK-RULZ (talkcontribs)
  • The article is currently tagged for {{orphan}} and {{refimproveBLP}}. I don't see any problem in removing "refimproveBLP" tag as the sourcing seems to be quite adequate. An article is tagged for "orphan" if there is no other Wikipedia article is linked to it. Currently, there are two articles, namely List of people from Jammu and Kashmir and Dogra are linked to it. So, it is not exactly an orphan and this tag can also be removed as well. Salih (talk) 15:51, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Telugu

[edit]

Hello Salih, I wanted to know if you have checked out the site linked to which you removed. It provides a genuinely useful service that is not found elsewhere on the web for understanding Telugu dictionary content in one's own script. Several readers who speak telugu but do not understand the script themselves have mentioned that it is useful to them, for example. I went through adding it to pages where it would be relevant. Is expected that an editor ask on a talk page before adding a link. If this is the case I'll ask first in the future. Mntr (talk) 05:57, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Putting the same external links to a large group of articles by a single editor is generally an indication of spam. Please see the relevant guideline WP:EL. Salih (talk) 07:09, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kerala Congress

[edit]

Hi. I noticed your edit at Kerala Congress (Joseph). However, it's a bit forkish to have both Kerala Congress and Kerala Congress (Joseph) articles. KC(Joseph) is recognized by ECI as 'Kerala Congress', and preferably we should retain the ECI names for articles Indian political parties, otherwise we'll open a Pandora's Box of naming battles. --Soman (talk) 13:29, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is no Kerala Congress party in Kerala now. The parent party had split and became independent parties like Kerala Congress (Mani), Kerala Congress (Balakrishna Pillai), Kerala Congress (Jacob), and Kerala Congress (Joseph). All these these parties having separate election symbols. If you think that this amounts to content fork, then we will have to consider all these parties together. Salih (talk) 13:40, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm aware of the (many) splits of the party. However, one of them has been recognized as the original faction (i.e. the Joseph group). --Soman (talk) 15:11, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, so what shall we do? Salih (talk) 15:14, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Muthoot Family Category

[edit]

I do not see a reason why the Family should not by put in the category of Indian Families. Since the Muthoot Group owned by the family has an international presence in over 3 continents and is also having presence in over 22 states of India with more than 1500 branches, plus several business interests outside the state of Kerala (e.g. Chennai Live 104.8 FM in Tamil Nadu, 2000 Acres of Rubber plantations in Maharashtra, St. George's High School in New Delhi and others), I believe that the group deserves to be put in a category that gives justice to their truly pan Indian existence. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eapenalexander (talkcontribs) 08:47, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jyoti Basu

[edit]

Perhaps you can suggest how the facts can be presented in Jyoti Basu page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Notacommunist (talkcontribs) 17:35, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The first thing is that the source does not name Jyoti Basu. The second is this statement does not belong to the lead section, see WP:UNDUE. Salih (talk) 17:41, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Jyoti Basu was the leader of the alliance which was (is still) in power. There was industrial decline under his leadership. Do you disagree? The references clearly point to the state of West Bengal under his leadership. I'd appreciate you not reverting the edits on political pretexts. Notacommunist (talk) 17:47, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest you include the material only after a consensus is reached in the talk page of the article, because many editors disagreed with the inclusion of the material. Salih (talk) 17:51, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Many editors? Okay, please do not revert the changes until a consensus is reached. As a political leader, both successes and failures has to be presented. This is not a communist forum. We'd like to spread information in all its fairness. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Notacommunist (talkcontribs) 17:54, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes many editors; previously an IP was trying to push this material into the article and was promptly reverted. I have no comments about my political stance. Also, your name suggests that you have come here with an agenda. Salih (talk) 18:02, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Would you like to help out with this? There are lots of Kerala politicians and actors in the list and your expertise in that area would help. cheers. –SpacemanSpiff 19:18, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am happy to get involved in the process. Please let me know what I have to do. Salih (talk) 03:51, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's quite simple really, find refs, add them and remove the unsourced blp tags. It's explained in detail on the above linked talk page section. cheers. –SpacemanSpiff 03:54, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

a help

[edit]

The User talk:Rivatphil seems to have the habit of inserting a lot of false information into articles repeatedly. He usually edits political party articles and inserts stuff into them. But I see he has also created a number of Kerala village stubs [1]. Given the user's history in making up things, can you please check if the villages exist?. Thanks --Sodabottle (talk) 04:59, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have encountered this editor earlier, but I don’t remember the nature of contribution made by him. Anyway, I will look out for the Kerala related article created by him to see whether they are valid or not. Thanks. Salih (talk) 06:54, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have gone through those village articles he has recently created; they exist, but the problem is they are all one liners and that too without any sources. Salih (talk) 17:14, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You tagged the above article as an unreferenced BLP.

Firstly, as the article clearly shows, he is dead - BLPs are Biographies of Living People. Secondly, although it was listed as an external link, there was a reference (about his death).

Please try to be more careful when tagging an article as unreferenced, especially if you tag it as a BLP which is unreferenced! If there are sources listed in external links, then use {{nofootnotes}}. If there are no references (including external links) and it is not a living person, use {{unreferenced}}.

Ideally, if there is an external link like this one, it should be converted to a reference, as I did on the above article.

Finite Elements Page

[edit]

Hi Salih,

Soni007 tried to include a link to Silvester on Finite Elements page you lately deleted for unfitness. I tried to place it anew, hopefully in a more suitable way.

We think a link to the man who introduced FEM to elecromagnetism is necessary in the history page, if you think it is still unfit where I placed it plese contact me so that we can find a solution. —Preceding unsigned comment added by S68 (talkcontribs) 15:14, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please feel free to create a subsection under History section and mention his contribution briefly. Subsection may be called something like "Application of FEM in electromagnetism". Cheers. Salih (talk) 18:00, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fluid dynamics page

[edit]

(reply from User_talk:Zaphraud#Restoration_of_an_image_in_fluid_dynamics

Actually, compressibility of gas is of great concern when that gas is being drawn through a liquid; the weight of the liquid (rather than the effects of speed) act to compress the gas; as the bubbles travel upward, they expand. Again, I assert that this is of importance at least in the petroleum industry (as well as several other industries, I would assume) and I desire that someone replace the image with an image that demonstrates this principle visually rather than simply erasing it. I have also brought this request up on the talk page (but I was on the complex's open internet and a laptop rather than on my PC, so it shows as an IP address).Zaphraud (talk) 23:25, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that the section on "Compressible vs incompressible flow" is not about the compressibility of gas but is about the compressible flows. That is why I said the image is not appropriate in that section. Salih (talk) 05:46, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

T. A. Pai

[edit]

I noticed that you had redirected the newly created page T. A. Pai back to T. M. A. Pai. Please note that they both are NOT the same individual. Since their details were mixed up in the T. M. A. Pai page, I had created a separate page for T. A. Pai, who was a stalwart in his own right. I had put the topic for discussion under T. M. A. Pai as well. I have undone the redirection for now. Please let me know if you have some other details on this topic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Divakar.pai (talkcontribs) 18:55, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"He was conferred the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 1972" - this was the statement that made me redirect. It was common to both TMA Pai and TA Pai! Anyway, if TA Pai is notable by himself no problem in having a separate article on him. Regards. Salih (talk) 19:06, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

referred form of the Navier–Stokes equations

[edit]

Hi Salih, I put the Navier–Stokes equations back into the form corresponding with the associated reference to Batchelor; not because it was in itself wrong. During the last year, the given form evolved into a form deviating from the associated reference, without adjusting the reference. People do not seem to apprehend that for a material fluid element is a nice momentum conservation form. Best regards, Crowsnest (talk) 20:04, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine. I feel there is still mistake in the way the body force has been defined. I will consult Batchelor and see what he says. Thanks. Salih (talk) 03:55, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nikita heathfield speedy declined

[edit]

It would probably be better to read critically and search google before tagging as a hoax or vandalism. Potential sourcing exists so PROD or AFD would probably be the way to go after first performing WP:BEFORE. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 14:09, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I applied the speedy hoax criterion mainly becuase of the statement "She started ice skating when she was seven years old and has millions of medals mostly gold or silver and has featured in many shows with the isle of wight ice dance...". Salih (talk) 14:14, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There's a difference between childish hyperbole and trying to perpetuate a hoax. She in fact looks to have started skating at an early age and looks to have won enough awards to assert significance. A Google search would have shown this. While an A7 CSD tag might have been sustainable, clearly a vandalism warning was not. As it could be argued that asserts significance, a PROD or {{{notability}}} tag would have been better. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 14:20, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
My fault. I didn't realize that the article creator was a child! Agree that CSD A7 would have been more appropriate criterion after removing the "millions of medals" piece. Anyway, you've now PRDDed it. Thanks. Salih (talk) 15:09, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Salih, you seem to have removed the external link I added to Heat Conduction page. May I know the reason. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sskatte (talkcontribs) 13:52, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I went through EL page, but still do not know the reason for removal. On the contrary, I found an inappropriate link (Newtons law of cooling) on Heat Conduction page, as Newton's law of cooling should have been linked from Convection page, not conduction. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sskatte (talkcontribs) 14:18, 21 April 2010 (UTC) --Sskatte (talk) 14:23, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kozhikode Cleanup

[edit]

Hi, you have recommended cleanup of the History section of Kozhikode. Can u please suggest some specific issues that I can correct? Also, pls advise on how to enhance the status of the article from the present START level. thanking you.

Choosetocount (talk) 18:20, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Clean up is basically required in the "history section" of the article. It has become bloated up over a period of time and is disproportionately lengthy compared to other sections. I think, we need to trim it by purging all the irrelevant material. Please see the other article on cities like Chennai, New Delhi, and Kochi. I think it's a good idea to start a new article on "history of Kozhikode" and discuss the history part exhaustively; we only need to move the relevant content from history section in Kozhikode article to the new article. Once the cleanup work has been done we can go for a GA review if possible. Regards. Salih (talk) 13:31, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 21:50, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Move Opinion

[edit]

Hei, i guess that since you edit a lot of film related articles that you will be familiar with the naming conventions. I just feel that that the title of "Prithviraj Sukumaran" is inappropriate as he is known simply as "Prithviraj", so i am thinking that a title of the form "Prithviraj<space>(<something>)" is more apt. My move to that format was twice reverted (First i moved it to "Prithviraj (actor)" and then "Prithviraj (Malayalam actor)"). Hi Arjun, Ideally, Prithviraj should have been the title of the article, but there are other notable people with Prithviraj as their first name. The next option would be to either go for "Prithviraj (actor)" or "Prithviraj Sukumaran". I prefer the latter, because it identifies the person uniquely without a tail. Thanks. Salih (talk) 03:59, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ofcourse, the latter looks pretty. Do we, in wikipedia consider only the non-parenthesized part to resolve questions over brevity? If so, the question would be: which;s better "Prithviraj" or "Prithviraj Sukumaran" ; and since "Prithviraj" aint available, we would add a pair of brackets. thoughts? Arjuncodename024 17:44, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pure original research? Firstly, it's a logic puzzle which is either correct or not - the normal rules about published references certainly don't apply! Secondly, did you even bother to search the web to see whether your hasty summary was justified? Thirdly, are you sure that you are the right person to be tagging pages such as this one? Come on, get real!! Androstachys (talk) 13:13, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I did search the net and could not find anything with the title "String girdling Earth". If you can provide at least one reliable source, I myself will remove the PROD tag. Thank you. Salih (talk) 13:18, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Salih, I found and applied a good source. Of course it's not a logic or logical puzzle, but it is certainly very well known and by no means WP:OR. So I think the tag can be removed unless you already took care of it. Cheers - DVdm (talk) 13:58, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's nice to find a source for this interesting puzzle! The tag has already been removed by the article creator, Androstachys. Thanks for the information. Salih (talk) 14:05, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Salih, Hello.I hope it is OK to write - but you suggested a willingness to change your vote. I have added a ref - for Prof Mathew which might allow him to pass Wp:Prof #6. It is not much I know - but I hope it might be just enough. Best wishes (Msrasnw (talk) 12:48, 27 August 2010 (UTC))[reply]

Thanks for the information. The source you found clearly establishes the notability, but it's sufficient only to leave a stub about the subject as other material in the article is still unverifiable. So, I have changed my !vote to weak keep. Cheers. Salih (talk) 12:57, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm not interfering with your tagging - just making double sure it gets deleted ;) --Kudpung (talk) 09:33, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, next time I'll follow your advice! Salih (talk) 09:36, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you think something can be deleted under several criteria, you can use this tag, for example {{Db-multiple|G11|A7}}, but you will need to enter the correct numbers, and put the warning manually on the creator's page.--Kudpung (talk) 09:49, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I had checked the way you multiply tagged James Anderson (Plymouth), a very handy template indeed. Thank you for the information. Salih (talk) 12:40, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the article Raghupati Raghava Rajaram should be deleted, specially as it does not have the coverage to merit being one of those rare exceptions to WP:NFF. However, as it is one in a series of recent problems for director Shaji Kailas, I went ahead and added one sourced sentence to Shaji Kailas#2000-Present, mentioning Raghupati Raghava Rajaram in context to his other recent setbacks as a director.[2] Might you agree that after deletion, and as readers might still search for the cancelled film by name, that a redirect to the director's section will serve? I also believe a redirect will help prevent an inappropriate recreation of this article. --Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 22:26, 4 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine, I agree with you to redirect to Shaji Kailas, after deleting the present article. Salih (talk) 04:53, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your comment at the AFD. Much appreciated. No sense for the information to exist anywhere but in a contextual sentence in the director's article. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 08:53, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear sahilh, Morse sakshama is a real event here is the link http://morse.sakshama.org , again it is not notable on the internet because its new enough and there have not been more blogging or net activities about it. Mappila

[edit]

Someone needs to rewrite the article on Mappila. BTW Can u think of any famous mappila woman to be added to that collage? Any other personality? NMKuttiady (talk) 21:23, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agree that a thorough rewrite is required. I think Prem Nazir and Fathima Beevi are worthy enough to be included in the collage. Salih (talk) 13:36, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
C. H. Mohammed Koya and Baburaj are two other heavyweights. Salih (talk) 13:57, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, I would prefer if there's CH, E Ahamed , Baburaj and others. But the photographs aren't there for them now, and in some cases the license of those in the respective articles is not acceptable. Can you think of any other prominent Mappila women? NMKuttiady (talk) 14:03, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Can't think of anyone at the moment, however, it’s a good idea to take a stock of Muslim women who have Wikipedia article. Salih (talk) 14:55, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Kochi references

[edit]

Thank you for providing references a second time for the sobriquet "Queen of the Arabian Sea". I have left a message at Talk:Arunvarmaother regarding one of their edits that you might be interested in. Green Giant (talk) 03:02, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the information. It is seems Arunvarmaother has a tendency to push POV. Probably he hails from the city. Your concern about calling Kochi "the epitome of adventure?" is valid. We do not know in what context Gandhiji said like that. Most probably, as you mentioned, "Living on the seaside you are aware of what adventure can do. The sea is an epitome of adventures." may be the case. I support the removal of "the epitome of adventure?" unless more direct source is available. Salih (talk) 12:52, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

References in Kumbanad

[edit]

Hi Salih,

Could you please tell me why the two reference added by me was reverted. Honestly I think only those two references among the existing ones give any kind of starting point to improving the article. Mathew Joy (talk) 15:53, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am afraid that both the sites do not fall under the category of reliable sources. This seems to be a discussion forum where anybody can post a message. The second one is a personal website. Hope you understand. Salih (talk) 17:17, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I would agree that those are not the reference I would prefer either. But those two are the only close ones I could get after much searching in Google. The first, in about us section, states that "The Independent Media Center is a network of collectively run media outlets for the creation of radical, accurate, and passionate tellings of the truth." While since the name Kumbanad came from the family that lived there I thought the second ref carried more weight in the context. I think you will also agree that orkut and twitter pages cannot come in the reference either. Hence we are left with no major reference to Kumbanad. I think all that can be done is to have just one or two lines stating what Kumbanad is all about. But I think there are some Ips and users heavily guarding the article :) Mathew Joy (talk) 18:18, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I can understand the situation. The problem with the first site is the "passionate telling of the truth". Such sources are inherently unreliable. Information may be sourced to the Kumbanad site, but with caution. Best. Salih (talk) 19:18, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Automobile Department Of Rajalakshmi Engineering College

[edit]

Automobile Department Of Rajalakshmi Engineering College, this article was previously proposed for deletion by you (see history) for the following concern: Nothing special about this department to have its own article. , this tag was removed by User:Vignesh100992 (see history) Without discussion and for your information I only restored WP:PROD by you BUT User talk:Dana boomer again Removed WP:PROD by you. You can have a look and also welcome for discussion at Talk:Automobile Department Of Rajalakshmi Engineering College -- . Shlok talk . 07:06, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is that once the PROD tag has been removed from the article (with or without discussion), we cannot restore it. In the present case, it is best to merge the content of "Automobile Department Of Rajalakshmi Engineering College" to "Rajalakshmi Engineering College". If you wish you can propose the merge. Cheers. Mappila community

[edit]

Dear Sali,

Now you have deleted two sections as follows,

1. Since Islam reached Malabar as early as 7th century it had almost mixed with the culture and traditions of Keralites . So, the Islahi Movement in Kerala, a renaissance of the community, resulted in the division of Mappilas as "Sunnis" (more orthodox sect than the other) and "Mujahids" (though both of these belong to the Sunni branch of Islam). It's interesting to note that the faith of the Mappilas was a mixture of "Sunnis" and "Mujahids" before these renaissance. The Shia branch is almost absent amongst the Muslims of Kerala.

2.Mappila sects Theological orientations amongst the Mappilas are primarily divided into three, though all these belong to the Sunni branch of Islam.

1) Sunni orthodox sects of Shafi school (A. P. Sunni-Kanthapuram, E. K. Sunni etc.). 2) Adherents of Mujahid -Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen (A. P. Mujahids, Madavur etc.). 3) Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (simply Jama'at).

The Sunni classification referred to here are identified by their conventional beliefs and practices and adherence to Shafi school of law, while the other two theological orientations, the Mujahids and the Jama'ats, are seen as reform movements within the community and they are School-less. The Shia school is almost absent amongst the Muslims of Kerala. These internal divisions had a great effect on the social life of a Mappila, especially in associated with marriages, burials, mosques (most these divisions even have there own mosques) etc. Muslims in Kerala enjoy a better social and financial security when compared to the Muslims living in other part of India. 3. Disputed Pre-Caste system among Mappilas

Sources never indicated that the pre-castes among Mappilas developed as the result of close contact with Hindu cultures. Thangals claim a superior status derived from their foreign ancestry. The non-Thangals are assumed to be converts from Hinduism, especially from Low Castes (Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe) converts, and are therefore drawn from the indigenous population

Why should anyone ask infor with source for these parts, these are universal truths, every Mappila knows these and wikipedia stands for truths .

Pls undo these deletions or add these informations with changes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rameez pp (talkcontribs) 14:37, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rameez, Wikipedia has certain policies and guidelines. Editors are supposed to comply with rules and regulation of Wikipedia. Even if the info you add is universal truth, it has to be supplemented with sources. Please go through the welcome message on your talk page. Best. Salih (talk) 14:47, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sali, Thank you for your consideration, These are informations passing from persons to persons for decades, I ONLY WANTED IT TO BE WRITTEN TO THE WORLD FOR THE FIRST TIME. And It's sad news, that there is no WRITTEN sources in the entire planet for this informations and there would not be.

so, I KINDLY REPEAT TO RESTORE THIS DATA, IF YOU HAVE, WITH SOURCES. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rameez pp (talkcontribs) 14:56, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with u. Its mostly due to the unfamiliarity of the new users about the rules and regulations on Wikipedia. I'm working on improving some of these pages. For a start, I've rewritten the lead of Malabar Rebellion. Will work on the history parts of Mappila articles. Edits require less time than learning the whole thing, and reading the sources..Man, thats tedious ;) NMKuttiady (talk) 19:48, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well done in rewritting the lede of Malabar Rebellion. Salih (talk) 15:59, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
How relevant do you think reproduction of the complete letter of the Nilambur Rani is for the article in the form it is as of now? It might be worth a mention in a summarized way, but reproducing the whole letter is putting extra emphasis on a piece of document much beyond its actual significance. The book that quotes it actually just placed it in its appendix, along with many other documents. There are many other letters written by various parties on this very subject - by people with varying opinions. Reproducing each of them like this in full in the article would make it unwantedly huge.NMKuttiady (talk) 19:45, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've rewritten Mappila Songs. Added lots of sources and historic info, but needs a little formatting. Also progressing on the Malabar Rebellion. Might take more time to finish it. The volume of material on it is too numerous.NMKuttiady (talk) 12:11, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Really appreciate your good work. Thanks. Salih (talk) 16:26, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks :)NMKuttiady (talk) 10:11, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Did you get any more info about VM Kutty? See also if you can find out more about PT AbdulRahman. I've got some good material on the early years and will update the article as I move on in my study. Interestingly, this has a very close relation to the Malabar Rebellion and the outbreaks of the 19th century. The soul and thought of the community in those days are expressed in these songs in stark contrast to the "fanatic" narratives of the British records.NMKuttiady (talk) 08:02, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The only substantial article I came across about VM Kutty was that Hindu article. More offline source should be available. BTW, in the article 'Mappila Songs' it is mentioned that Kunhayan Musaliyar lived in 16th century, however this book says that he lived in 19th century. Do you have any idea as to which one is correct? 14:49, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
Randathani dates it as per the Pakkar Panoor folk tale book. T Menon in this work dates him to around 1700. SM Koya in Mappilas of Malabar dates the Nool Mala by Kunhayan Musaliyar to 1151 AH, which would be 1762 AD. Traditional stories put him as a contemporary of Zainudheen Makhdum and a student of the scholar. So its an unclear picture. In Mappilappattu - Padhavum Padhanavum(Balakrishnan Vallikkunnu and Dr. Umar Tharamel, D.C. Books, 2006) its is categorized in the time period of the post Mala ppattu era of the 17th century and before the Padappattu era of the 19th century, though the time frame is not provided. A semi-biography I read a few years back narrated his days at the Ponnani dars under the Makhdoum, though it could be a Makhdoum of a different era. His songs don't involve battle balads, so its most likely at sometime during the 1700s, the relatively calm years in the Malabar. I've corrected the article accordingly based on these observations giving weightage to the source of T Menon. NMKuttiady (talk) 19:34, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation. Salih (talk) 16:10, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is only one such award ( best actor classical film) given of,just like second best feauture film this award was discontinued. Before 1968 this award was given of as Rashtrapati award for best actor from president of india.

SO as per rule and as per your message, what guarantee you can give that these 2 categories will be allowed to be included as sub categories in main NationaL Film Award category???

This also this use Shshshsh is disrupting it.

So as per what you said, If i create two articles for thse 2 categories

National film award for best calssical film actor/hero Rashtrapati award for best actor

This vandalism user Shshshsh is not allowing that to happen

THE DIRECTORATE OF FILM FESTIVALS WAS STARTED ONLY FROM 1970.

BEFORE THAT THE ABOVE TWO AWARDS ARE GIVEN FROM THE SAME BODY DIRECTORATE OF FILMS IN INDIA ESTABLISHED IN 1954.

SO AS PER WHAT YOU SAY

I WILL CREATE THESE 2 ARTICLES ONLY YOU CAN GIVE GUARANTEE THAT THIS PERSON Shshshsh will not block adding these categories in National Film Award main article and then create individual articles.

UNTILL YOU CLARIFY THIS TO ME, SOBHAN BABU WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE NATIONAL AWARD BEST ACTOR GIVEN BY INDIAN CENTRAL GOVERNMENT THROUGH THE HANDS OF PRESIDENT OF INDIA.

IN WHAT WAY YOU CAN DISAGREE THAT SOBHAN BABU DID NOT GET AN AWARD FROM GOVT OF INDIA????

WILL U BE ABLE TO BLOCK THIS TYPE OF VANDALISM BY Shshshsh

do u know how cumbersome it is undo this type of silly vandalism???

this is no way beyond the scope of what you argue (6feetheight (talk) 17:50, 28 October 2010 (UTC)).[reply]

Hi 6feetheight, first of all please don't make personal attack and User:Shshshsh is not a vandal. There is no dispute that Sobhan Babu won the award from the Govt. of India. But the award is not the "National Film Award for Best Actor" and hence it is inappropriate to mention in the article "National Film Award for Best Actor". The award he won was a special one and can be mentioned in the article about the actor. Nobody will question it. Hope you understand. Salih (talk) 18:11, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I noticed that you just went through and removed the Category:Astronomers tag from many people who are, or were astronomers. (Now) I am almost sure that his correct middle name is "Nambiyadikkal". I just don't know how "Neelakantan" came instead of "Nambiyadikkal". Now I believe somebody wrongly filled unknown middle name, then Malayalam wikipedia and English wikipedia spread it all over (because correct middle name was not available anywhere, and I didnt find any web source prior 2007) :(. First revision of mlwp article was written by me, based on my school time notes. I remember, middle name in those notes were also not clear but do not remember any reseach on that. I probably copied wrong name from some other unknown source. Please check that his father's name is Krishna Kurup and also has a middle name starting with "N", so I think there is no scope for Neelakantan in Keralite naming style--Praveen:talk 16:26, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

K. V. Rabiya

[edit]

Check out K. V. Rabiya. Any chance of getting pic of hers? Also how about trying for a featured article status for Mappila Songs initially at WP Kerala and later somewhere elsewhere. I've got a few more stuff to add, and a couple of pictures too would be great. entegramam malappuram has the vaidyar smarakam pic at kondotty on CC3 non-commercial license. Unfortunately thats the closest I could get to it.NMKuttiady (talk) 12:05, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Neatly written bio of a remarkable lady. I could see only this book cover for her image. For 'Mappila Songs', let's first try to get GA status and see how it goes.. Salih (talk) 14:22, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the link. I've added it there to the references. I've to add a few more categories of Songs - the Qissa pattu, a little more about marriage songs and other miscellaneous categories that actually fall under the humour category like Thenga pattu etc.
BTW I need some suggestion from you. Do you think a category wise grouping (mala, kissa, pada, oppana etc) would be better or a timeline based grouping? The former would help put things in the normal way we categorize a music genre. The latter would have an advantage in the case of Mappilappattu specifically because each genre has a very important connection with the historic situation on the time. The background of the songs need explanation in their historic context. I being a history buff would prefer the latter, but the general pattern on wiki and elsewhere seems otherwise.NMKuttiady (talk) 19:52, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
My knowledge in Mappilapattu and its history is very limited and don't have any specific opinion regarding the categorization. Seem to be OK either ways. Salih (talk) 17:05, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
K. V. Rabiya updated. Seethi Sahib added.NMKuttiady (talk) 12:39, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, G3 may be more appropriate. Salih (talk) 17:11, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Saleh, The coverage is not limited to local news. Times of India and DNA are national news papers and the news items also appeared on the national page of the newspapers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rohit675 (talkcontribs) 11:59, 18 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The news item that appeared in DNS is Bangalore specific, and I can't find anything substantial in Times of India. Salih (talk) 13:00, 18 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
