Autopatrolled granted

[edit]

Hi Slafayette, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Schwede66 20:18, 29 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @Schwede66: that's awesome! I really appreciate your reviews of the pages I've been creating as well! Slafayette (talk) 20:51, 29 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Kia ora

[edit]

Kia ora Slafayette, just thought I'd stop by and say hi! Looks like we have some similar interests on here :-) I recently discovered this crowdsourced google list of inspirational NZ women, I think it was created to help people find women to have on discussion panels etc as they are so often men-only (or men-heavy). Anyway, there are over 725 names on it and quite a few seem notable enough for a WP article ..... if you're looking for any more material to work with! All the best.

Thanks @MurielMary: it's lovely to hear from you! That looks like a very useful list, I'll definitely go through & use for inspiration for future articles. I've only recently started actively editing Wikipedia and it's motivating to create articles specifically on women. I was born & grew up in New Zealand so am also enjoying learning more about the women from there. Slafayette (talk) 10:44, 16 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Group

[edit]

Hi Slafayette - I see you've been adding a lot of artists to {{The Group NZ}}... are you sure these were all members of The Group, or did some of them just exhibit alongside The Group? If it's the latter, perhaps there needs to be a new section of the template for associated artists. Grutness...wha? 01:47, 16 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @Grutness: I've been adding them if they were exhibitors i.e. not guest artists, although I see your point, they should have specifically been members (active) in {{The Group NZ}} itself. Also because there are quite a few it would be good to easily see who is more active/prominent. I'll go through the ones I've added and review them a bit, if it makes more sense to have them as associated artists I'll rearrange. Also just wanted to say thanks for all your reviews & amends to my articles, I've recently started editing Wikipedia and am still learning! It's really helpful to see the fixes and changes and hopefully my articles will continue to improve. Any comments or suggestions are always welcome! Slafayette (talk) 10:50, 16 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Glad to be of help - and good to see an enthusiastic new editor doing so much work :) FWIW I work in the arts for a living down in Dunedin NZ, so I know something about these artists (though not really enough to be able to add much more than you're doing!) Grutness...wha? 11:05, 16 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed draft for Liwonde National Park

[edit]

Hello, Slafayette. On behalf of the nonprofit organization African Parks via the Wyss Foundation, and as part of my work at Beutler Ink, I've submitted an expanded and updated draft of the Liwonde National Park article for consideration at Talk:Liwonde National Park. I am looking for someone to review this draft for accuracy and neutrality, and to copy over content appropriately as a replacement of the current article, which is almost entirely unsourced.

Since you're a recent member of WikiProject Africa, I thought I'd reach out to see if you are interested in taking a look at the proposed draft. My requests for help at several WikiProjects have gone unanswered for a while now. Might you be willing to take a look at the draft?

Thanks for your consideration. Inkian Jason (talk) 15:51, 27 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The World Contest

[edit]

Thank you for your contributions to the World Contest. As an assistant judge I am required to recheck entries approved by the bot and I have marked a couple of yours as needing attention. You need to be careful about close paraphrasing in your articles. For example Louise Wallace (writer) states "Wallaces's work touches on family stories, popular music, travel, and relationships" while the source states "The collection touches on family stories, popular music, travel, and relationships". This is unacceptably close to the original and needs to be written in a different way. ("A variety of themes include travel, modern music and family relationships" or somesuch.) Of course, some things such as "an MA in Creative Writing at the International Institute of Modern Letters" can't easily be written in a different way, and to repeat them is acceptable. I don't want to put you off, and look forward to other new contributions from you that don't have this problem. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:22, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @Cwmhiraeth: I noticed that you highlighted this on the contest page for Oceania and I completely understand the comment. I will amend the articles so this is no longer an issue (and also check other pages I've created/future pages). The Earwig check tool is really helpful to ensure all the content is original, thanks for linking to it. As a new editor I definiatly appreciate the feedback and any suggestions, I'm using the contest (and WIR) to push myself to create pages & learn more about the editing process - I've definitely learnt a lot so far!Slafayette (talk) 12:06, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You are doing well, and if I can be of any help, please ask. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 14:13, 7 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Nice work. Fancy a crack at Tokelau? I tried to find someone who would make a likely subject, but came up blank. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:25, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @Ser Amantio di Nicolao: - I'm actually working on an article for Tokelau now! I thought it would be fun to challenge myself to see how many countries & territories I could create a page with a women bio. It's fun that there is a contest going on too, but that's just a bonus! Some places are much harder than others but the research process is interesting. If you come across anyone interesting from the Pitcairn Islands let me know, that's the one I'm really struggling with! Slafayette (talk) 19:19, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ooooh, excellent. I look forward to reading it. Couldn't come up with anyone for Pitcairn Island, either...I'll keep chewing it over and let you know if I can think of anyone. Otherwise - happy editing, and keep up the good work! --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 20:25, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much@Ser Amantio di Nicolao:! I was surprised I did but great to come across some interesting stories! Slafayette (talk) 20:01, 19 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That's always the most fun part of these things, isn't it? Finding stuff about people you otherwise never would have heard of. From places you'd never think of going. Hi. We're into the last five days of the Women in Red World Contest. There's a new bonus prize of $200 worth of books of your choice to win for creating the most new women biographies between 0:00 on the 26th and 23:59 on 30th November. If you've been contributing to the contest, thank you for your support, we've produced over 2000 articles. If you haven't contributed yet, we would appreciate you taking the time to add entries to our articles achievements list by the end of the month. Thank you, and if participating, good luck with the finale!

Shirley Smith

[edit]

Hi Slafayette, I loved reading your article on Shirley Smith (lawyer), great woman to write about! Just checking though, you've added her to the page on first women lawyers around the world but she wasn't actually a first lawyer , she was the 41st woman in the High Court. I don't think she belongs on that page for that reason, although she could be on that page as "first woman to hold a full position in a university Faculty of Law". What do you think? MurielMary (talk) 03:30, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks MurielMary! I completely agree with your comment and I've updated the description to reflect that she was the first woman faculty member to teach law. I'm not sure if that warrants her remaining on the page as most of the list seems to related to being admitted to practice law. I'm happy to remove her if she no longer fits in the scope of the list! It also inspired me to explore women of Oceania & I'm glad I could add to the coverage of some great women. Checking the results, I think my amount should be $160 ($10 for 11th, $100 for Oceania, $50 for literature), thanks! Slafayette (talk) 14:49, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Mahani Teave

[edit]

On 9 January 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Mahani Teave, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Mahani Teave is considered Easter Island's only classical musician? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Mahani Teave. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Mahani Teave), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!

[edit]

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.

The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Join us in this global edit-a-thon, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope. Also remember to list your name under the participants section.

On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing participants in the following manner:

  • Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
  • Diversity winner
  • Gender-gap fillers

For further information about the contest, the recognition categories and how to participate, please visit the contest page here. For further inquiries, please leave comments on the contest talkpage or on the main project talkpage. See you around :).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:50, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
