Thank you for your help with my article on the above. You said remove external links and add citations. Can you please be more precise to what bits of information you are referring to? I also don't understand why you would delete external links once you add a citation? In academic literature adding links is standard practice.

Are you referring to the links to the paintings?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Eikoku (talkcontribs) 14:57, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Eikoku You have external links to https://www.edmontonartclub.com https://www.albertasocietyofartists.com and a number of museums, we don’t use links like that in the body of a Wikipedia article. Theroadislong (talk) 17:57, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

OK thank you very much. So re the museum and gallery holdings at the end what should I do? Should I link to the Wikipedia page of the institution and then have the artwork as a reference? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eikoku (talkcontribs) 18:17, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes that's right. Please also read WP:REFB for help with correctly formatting sources for example what are the "Supra" sources intended to be? Theroadislong (talk) 19:01, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK thanks. Supra means above in Latin and is a standard form of citation in ac academic works. Eikoku (talk) 19:07, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is NOT a standard format for Wikipedia though! Theroadislong (talk) 19:17, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So how should I refer to a source that has already been cited above? Eikoku (talk) 14:56, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Eikoku see WP:CONSECUTIVECITE. Theroadislong (talk) 15:04, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi That doesn't appear to be relevant. I am citing different pages in the same text in part. How do I do that? Can you provide some examples from live wikipedia pages please so I can follow that please? Eikoku (talk) 15:08, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:OPCIT for same source but different page number. Theroadislong (talk) 15:15, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry but I just can't understand any of these wikipedia descriptions which are far too technical - I really just need examples of what to do. Eikoku (talk) 15:18, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This one seems to just repeat the same citation again? John Duncan Fergusson Eikoku (talk) 15:15, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It states... Named references in conjunction with the {{rp}} or {{r}} templates to specify the page. Theroadislong (talk) 15:18, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I just don't undestand that. Can you provide some examples? Many thanks. Eikoku (talk) 15:19, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would edit your draft to show you but I can make no sense of your citation style! I'll try and find an example. Theroadislong (talk) 15:22, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you follow the instructions here instead Template:Reference page. Theroadislong (talk) 15:24, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So supra 5 just means the reference is the same as that at citation 5.
I also see that ibid (as above) is discouraged... Eikoku (talk) 15:42, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh so I found this - it seems you just repeat the citation? Arthur Lismer See footnote 15 and 16. Eikoku (talk) 16:41, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes that's a possibility, though not a very tidy one. Theroadislong (talk) 16:43, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have reformatted a number of your sources, if you want to have a go at the rest I will be happy to check them over. Subject likely passes the criteria at WP:NARTIST but it's good to get the references sorted first. Theroadislong (talk) 17:08, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So for footnote 8 and 9 which is taken from the same source as 3 - based in the Arthur Lismer page and the John Duncan Ferguson page which just repeats the same citation in full - for footnote 8 and 9 I just repeat citation 3? Thank you. Eikoku (talk) 18:09, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I gave the ref a name here [1] and then linked it to the other footnotes 8 and 9 here [2]. Hope that’s clear? Theroadislong (talk) 18:20, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can you revert it back please to how it was as I don't understand this at all and am concerned that citations have disappeared.
I found something which says you create a "short citation" rather than repeating the whole thing each time. Wikipedia:Citing sources This seems to be the best option as I understand it and can do myself. Thank you. Eikoku (talk) 18:34, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
the citations have NOT disappeared they have been formatted correctly I'm sorry you can't see that, perhaps somebody else at the Wikipedia:Teahouse could better explain it? Theroadislong (talk) 18:37, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you please explain how I repeat what you have done then please? If I repeat what you have done is the next one 1RF? i.e. <ref name="1RF"> Eikoku (talk) 18:52, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually scrap that - can you do these too then further down too? Thank you!
ibid.
Supra 3
Supra 18
ibid.
ibid. Eikoku (talk) 18:38, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what Supra 18 or ibid refers to, this is why we don't use your method of citations here, because when another editor adds a source the numbering of the references changes. Theroadislong (talk) 18:45, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can you explain how I repeat what you have done then please? Is it <ref name="1RF"> then 2 RF etc? Eikoku (talk) 18:53, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK - I've worked it out now. Thank you. Will tidy it up this weekend. Thank you very much for your help!!!! Eikoku (talk) 19:12, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The ref name can be anything I usually use the initials of the source but it can be anything you like. Theroadislong (talk) 19:24, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just to say thank you for your help - I have redone the references and resubmitted. Thank you very much indeed for your patience and help. Eikoku (talk) 12:49, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you have mentioned Times of India is not a reliable source which surprises me. Times of India is one of the leading news paper and news websites in India. KualaLumpurian (talk) 13:17, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please see WP:TOI for why the TOI is not necessarily reliable. In short, their fact checking is poor; they have also published at least one AI-generated article. India in general, frankly, does not have a strong history of press freedom. 331dot (talk) 13:23, 13 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Sorry I dont understant how I can make an article about prof Polyakov. I made this draft, included some references but it was rejected. Pls clarify what Im doing wrong. John S. Ford (talk) 16:43, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It was declined not rejected. As per previous reviewers comment "this is still far from adequate: in articles on living people, every material statement, anything potentially contentious, and all private personal details such as DOB must be clearly supported by inline citations to reliable published sources, or else removed." You have vast swathes of unsourced content. Theroadislong (talk) 16:46, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can make the references for russian-language Wikipedia or not? John S. Ford (talk) 16:52, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Damian Tab

[edit]

Hi, In Israel, among the street art scene Damian Tab is a VERY known artist. Several exhibitions displaying his art have been enacted. His legacy as an artist is still very much active. I think that notability in his case is proven. פרחחשמח (talk) 20:15, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I've edited this article and resubmitted. Pertinent information (award nominations, chart positions) were omitted from the original submission. Kranthkorpool (talk) 12:09, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

AutoMowheelz‎

[edit]

I have knocked back your G4 nomination for AutoMowheelz‎ as the AFD closure was soft delete, and that is treated as a prod. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:47, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Would like to resubmit my Article for publishing

[edit]

Dear Theroadislong, I hope you are well. It's been some months since our last discussion about my Article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Manfred_Little_Konzett , and since then I've found new press articles for citations, have cleaned up older, broken citation-links, and streamlined the article. This time, in my Draft as I edit, I don't find the option to submit for publishing. Could you please advise when you have a moment? Thank you, Beth Wimmer Beth Wimmer (talk) 06:48, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @ Hi there, you can now resubmit it. I have added the previous AfC comments as it’s vital to track previous comments. Happy editing. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 07:25, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Beth Wimmer After three rejections I will not be reviewing the draft again, there has been zero improvement since previous rejections, Discogs is not a reliable independent source for example. Theroadislong (talk) 07:33, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the fast feedback, Theroadislong. i'll remove the discogs mentions - forgot that, doh! All the best, Beth Wimmer Beth Wimmer (talk) 10:46, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Vanderwaalforces! best to you, Beth Wimmer Beth Wimmer (talk) 10:46, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Decline of draft article

[edit]

Hi, regardless of the indepdendent sources I added to the article, you mentioned that "the article should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed.".

First of all, all the sources are independent. In addition, this event complies with notability rules. Summit is the first such event in the Azerbaijan and region. It is continuing for years. You can find a lot of secondary sources about this event in internet. Please, give exact reasons that why the article was declined. After that, I can improve the article. Thanks in advance. Əhməd Qurbanov (talk) 13:39, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You are free to re-submit and let another reviewer take a look, I think it is just blatant advertising and reads nothing like an encyclopaedia article, you clearly have a conflict of interest too, but have not disclosed it yet. Theroadislong (talk) 13:58, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean by "clearly have a conflict of interest?" What is the reason behind that? If someone creates the article about any event, is it the conflict of interest? Əhməd Qurbanov (talk) 14:19, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Əhməd Qurbanov (talk page watcher) Setting your indignation aside, do yu have a conflict of interest? 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 14:36, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You said on your talk page "regardless of my position to the event, I wrote the article neutrally. I don't promote anything" Theroadislong (talk) 14:47, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Timtrent, I don't have indignation. I like to learn from mistakes. But I don't know why you keep accusing me of having a conflict of interest. No, I don't. I wanted to write an article about it because the number of participants in the event, its notability in the region and in Azerbaijan, and the number of independent and reliable sources writing about it have increased. This year, third edition of event is expected, and in my opinion, it will be organized in the future as well. Əhməd Qurbanov (talk) 14:54, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Theroadislong, I mean that, regardless of my opinion (positive or negative) to this event, I wrote the article neutrally. In the article, you can not see any promotional sentences. Əhməd Qurbanov (talk) 14:56, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You need to review what constitutes neutral tone then. I can see a LARGE number of promotional sentences... “The summit brings together technology entrepreneurs, companies and startups” “It impacts innovations and presents the opinions of professionals from different countries” “This summit connects speakers, investors, and collaborators from more than 25 countries” “The third such event is planned to be held on October 10-11, 2024” “participants are provided to get acquainted with local and regional startup authors.” “The summit will include a startup competition with a $25,000 prize fund.” Theroadislong (talk) 15:03, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
But they are facts. What is expected to be written in the article about innovation events? I put all the appropriate references to support these sentences. Əhməd Qurbanov (talk) 15:09, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Əhməd Qurbanov The problem with facts is the way we express them. Forgive me if I am making assumptions, the more so since your English is excellent; your character choice for the first character of your user name suggests that English might be a second language for you, an excellent one. Despite excellence, this means that nuances of phrasing may present some challenges.
I can present the same fact neutrally or promotionally:
  • The guests were served with a souvenir piece of wedding cake, boxed for them to take away
  • The spectacularly arrayed guests, chosen from the very best of society, were served with a souvenir piece of the most delicious and incredible wedding cake, presented in a bejewelled and gilded sumptuous box made of the finest parchment.
I know that you can see the difference, yet they are both facts.
I have purposely not read the example that Theroadislong chose above, knowing that you can see the point they make. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 16:47, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, @Əhməd Qurbanov. Your answer is clear. I felt it was possible that you had not answered the prior question completely. Rather than getting into a discussion about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin I just asked the question in modified form again. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 16:40, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

As it stands after your trimming, I think there may be sufficient sourced material for it to stand a better than 50% chance of surviving a deletion process. However, I am interested in your thoughts. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 13:25, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I did wonder this, though the article South African Film and Television Awards doesn't mention her award, there are reliable sources for it and I guess the award is enough to clear the notability hurdle? Theroadislong (talk) 14:02, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think the community will make the judgement better than you or I. I want to steer clear of being the one to move it, if possible. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 14:10, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have given the creating editor firm advice not to edit it. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 17:26, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) @Timtrent: I just want to confirm the link I made here is to the correct and same subject at the AfD: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Karin Van Der Laag? Bobby Cohn (talk) 17:38, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Bobby Cohn Thank you. It still refused to show up so I put wikilink brackets round it, and now it does. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 17:40, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Light dawns. Her Facebook page is where she spells every part of her name with a leading capital. I have moved it to her presumed preferred capitalisation, and re-corrected the old AFD. Thank you Bobby Cohn for fixing that and Theroadislong for doing the heavy lifting.
I hope this lengthy saga is now at an end and we see no instances of WP:OWN. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 17:52, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
