Capitalisation of headings

[edit]

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I'd like to point out a point of style to you from the Wikipedia:Manual of Style.

The Wikipedia style for capitalising headings is to use "sentence case" instead of "title case", e.g.,

Important things to know about this subject

not:

Important Things to Know About This Subject

This may be unfamiliar to many editors who believe that or have been taught that "title case is the right way to capitalise headings". It isn't the "right way", it is one style. Wikipedia has, for better or worse, chosen to follow a different style, i.e., capitalise the heading the same way you would capitalise any sentence:

  • capitalise the first word,
  • capitalise any proper nouns (people, places, organizations), and
  • begin all other words with lower case letters.

Dear Ground Zero, many thanks for the information. I wasn't aware. Very helpful. All the best, Uptodateinfo| t 07:31, 23 October 2009 (EST)

A tag has been placed on Reset 2010 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for web content. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 08:02, 18 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article HMSC has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:CORP through lack of substantial coverage in reliable, independent sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Reyk YO! 01:09, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Evening. I am not sure what you mean. Are you looking for how to edit a page? doktorb wordsdeeds 14:25, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for the message. You wrote: "There is absolutely no credibility in a poll of this kind. Wikipedia has very strict rules and guidance on social media. To extract any kind of statistic from an arbitrary snapshot in time is a complete non-starter." on Talk:Straw_polls_for_the_Republican_Party_presidential_primaries,_2012. Would love to see the guidance. Apologies, but I was not able to find them in the Wikipedia:Community_portal.Uptodateinfo 14:35, 10 April 2012 (UTC) '[reply]

Hello again. I was referring to our usual rules on citations, using blogs/Twitter etc as sources, relying on social media for 'proof'. I can't remember exactly where they are, though, which isn't very helpful! To be doubly honest with you, I can't remember the discussion fresh in my mind either. Has whatever issue it is been resolved? doktorb wordsdeeds 16:18, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Chobe Holdings Ltd requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.african-markets.com/fr/bourse/bse/listed-companies/company?code=CHOBE. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
