Attention: I prefer to keep discussions unfragmented. If you leave a comment for me here, I will most likely respond to it on this same page—my talk page—as an effort to keep the entire conversation in one place. By the same token, if I leave a comment on your talk page, please respond to it there. Remember, we can use our watchlist to keep track of when responses are made. At the same time, feel free to send an alert to me on this page about a comment you have left elsewhere.

Thank you!

Happy First Edit Day!

Information icon Hi Vestrian24Bio! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of an article several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.

All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of reverting can help you avoid getting drawn into an edit war. Thank you. Trailblazer101 (talk) 18:31, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

JSON coding

[edit]

Hi! I have a JSON coding from XTools which is supposed to generate a table; Is there any possible way to add the coding to wikitext. I currently have the coding here. Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 15:04, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You can write a lua module (if this is only for you, put it in <module name> sub spage of Module:Sandbox/Vestrian24Bio/). Use a Sribunto JSON function to get the data from JSON into a Lua table (mw.loadJsonData(), mw.text.jsonDecode()). Use the html library functions to create an html table from the Lua table.

Created a module here; but it prints this error message... Can someone please help me fix it. Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 16:11, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A modified module here; but same error message... Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 16:22, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Trappist the monk after your change; the JSON you added appears; but, how do I add a custom JSON do I have to change it in the module directly??? Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 18:14, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is why I added the comment: IRL this could be replaced or the real JSON could be kept in this module's doc page. Were it me, I would put the JSON in the ~/doc page or perhaps a subpage of the module (with nothing else) and then have the module fetch the content of the your chosen page. Of course, the simpler way is to just put your 'real' JSON in the module in place of the test JSON.

Thanks! Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 18:25, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
One other possibility, you might could leave the JSON where it is and wrap it with the invoke so that the JSON is the first positional parameter:
{{#invoke:Sandbox/Vestrian24Bio/JSON table 2|jsonToHtmlTable|<JSON goes here>|}} – the extra trailing pipe may not be needed; I didn't test for that condition
Then change the module to fetch jsonTable from the frame:
local jsonTable = mw.text.jsonDecode (frame.args[1]);
Trappist the monk (talk) 18:38, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
tried now; but gives an error Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 18:41, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Because frame is out of scope there. If we are going to continue this conversation it would probably be better to have it on your talk page.

I've moved the discussion to my talk page now. Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 18:50, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
