Young Werther is an upcoming Canadian romantic comedy film written and directed by José Lourenço and starring Douglas Booth, Alison Pill, Iris Apatow and Patrick J. Adams. It is Lourenço's feature directorial debut and based on the 1774 novel The Sorrows of Young Werther by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.[1][2]

The film is slated to premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival,[3] and has been scheduled to screen in a gala presentation at the 2024 Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival.[4]

In May 2023, it was announced that Booth, Pill, Apatow and Adams were cast in the film.[1]

Filming occurred at LIUNA Station in the City of Hamilton, Ontario in the month of June 2023.[5]

In October 2023, it was announced that filming had been completed prior to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.[2]
