Area code 408 and 669 is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan. It covers the southern part of the San Francisco Bay Area in California, including cities like San Jose, Sunnyvale, and Gilroy. Area code 408 was created in 1959, on the same day as 707 when it was split from area code 415. 408 was split by 831 in 1998 and then overlaid with 669 in 2012.^[1]
