George Pieczenik Smith (born March 10, 1941) is an American chemist. He is the Curators’ Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Biological Sciences at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is best known for phage displays. It is when a specific protein's genetic code is artificially inserted into a bacterophage's coat protein gene.
In 2018, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry alongside Greg Winter and Frances Arnold.[2]
