The golden jackal (Canis aureus), also called the Asiatic, Oriental or common jackal is a carnivorous mammal of the Canidae family.
It is native to southeastern Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and South Asia. It is the largest of the jackals, and the only species of jackal to live outside Africa. 13 subspecies of golden jackal are recognised.
