How was my edit (-13 reverted) on Mary II bad? 2001:18C0:61E:D100:912E:3250:BFCB:7824 (talk) 10:01, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why did you remove the non-breaking spaces between numbers and units? These are mandated by the Manual of Style. Mdashes on wikipedia are unspaced. The other edits are all trivial and so there is no particular need to retain them. I think editors find reverting much easier than unpicking the wrong edits from the unimportant ones. I take note and I like to discuss with you because you explained it very well. Thank you for your reply. André. 2001:18C0:61E:D100:F971:9124:5523:E1C4 (talk) 20:22, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just made 3 edits for Mary II and they were reverted by DrKay. For what ? I don't understand. 2001:18C0:61E:D100:F971:9124:5523:E1C4 (talk) 21:25, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why did you remove the non-breaking spaces between numbers and units? I can remove them because they are at the beginning of the sentence. No? 2001:18C0:61E:D100:F971:9124:5523:E1C4 (talk) 21:48, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As this is a wiki, it is quite likely that intervening text will be inserted, or a paragrpah break will be removed, by other editors coming after you. Then the units and numerals will no longer be at the beginning of a paragraph. It is better to retain non-breaking spaces between numbers and units to be sure that the number and its unit remain associated. Celia Homeford (talk) 13:24, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit of Constantine II of Scotland has been reverted by Jean-de-Nivelle. How can I find my way? 2001:18C0:61E:D100:F971:9124:5523:E1C4 (talk) 23:04, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"Celia Homeford" reverted a number of edits to restore a "clean" version. I then re-applied the changes that I'd made following the manual of style.
The best thing, in my opinion, would be to slow down, read the manual of style, open an account, and work more tentatively at first. Many of your edits are valid, but at the moment you're making work for other editors cleaning up after you.
Best wishes, Jean-de-Nivelle (talk) 08:17, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
King of Scots is necessary because Kings of Scots does not refer to the same link. 2001:18C0:61E:D100:C04F:CA74:7DE8:16CF (talk) 03:18, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I see the need for the pipe now, thanks. I hadn't realised that the King of Scots redirect went to the UK monarchy article instead of the list of Scottish kings. Celia Homeford (talk) 13:24, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There may be a few things to think about here though. A link like King of Scots is only "necessary" if, for some reason, you want to take readers to the page List of Scottish monarchs when they click on the text "King of Scots". I'm not sure that's always a good idea. For example, if we look at the changes you made at "Alexander II of Scotland", the two links are actually serving different functions. The first, succession = King of Scotland, makes sense because the context is the line of succession of Scottish kings. In the second case, I think the link King of Scotland ("King of Scotland") would make more sense as a link to the general section article about the Scottish monarchy. A list of monarchs isn't always the most relevant target. Jean-de-Nivelle (talk) 07:44, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

Please note other parts of the Wikipedia:Manual of Style as well. Particularly, the use of ndashes for date ranges and that mdashes in running text should be unspaced. Celia Homeford (talk) 09:50, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
