Question from Old Man Muses (21:58, 15 June 2024)[edit]
I do not plan to edit - why have they changed the format from a plain search entry? --Old Man Muses (talk) 21:58, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Old Man Muses! Not sure what you are asking for here. Could you clarify a little? Thanks! Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 14:36, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
Stay nice - lol[edit]
You seem to be all over my mistakes, which is terrific. Because there aren't enough people to tell me I'M WRONG. I'm not wrong - I just don't know how to provide factual information. I didn't know people would be so rude. I'm trying to figure out how to provide factual, verifiable information, but no one seems to want to tell me how to do that, including you.
Nor do I know where or how to state that I am employed by Brigham and Women's Hospital. I hate Wikipedia and will never donate again.
I don't understand some of these pages. If you can't be helpful, stop trolling, please. DWB Executive Assistant (talk) 15:19, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- @DWB Executive Assistant, I have done my best to be as informative as I could in this thread. I have provided you with links on how to declare your conflict-of-interest, and I don't see where I was being rude/trolling (examples would help before making such accusations). Cheers, Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 15:25, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
Avoid relisting for the 3rd time[edit]
Happy to see you participating in the meta of the Xfprocess. Nobody should be relisting for the third time. Even frequent 3rd time relisters know this (and shed a little tear when they must do so). Let admins make the calls which might be later disputed. On the other hand I strongly encourage you to keep making bold choices, some of which might later turn out to be sub-optimal. No harm here, and if I didn't care about your efforts I'd have stayed silent. You're doing fine by me. BusterD (talk) 15:33, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks so much for your helpful comments @BusterD! I will not be relisting AfDs a 3rd time from now on

Tech News: 2024-25[edit]
Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- People who attempt to add an external link in the visual editor will now receive immediate feedback if they attempt to link to a domain that a project has decided to block. Please see Edit check for more details. [1]
- The new Community Configuration extension is available on Test Wikipedia. This extension allows communities to customize specific features to meet their local needs. Currently only Growth features are configurable, but the extension will support other Community Configuration use cases in the future. [2][3]
- The dark mode beta feature is now available on category and help pages, as well as more special pages. There may be contrast issues. Please report bugs on the project talk page. [4]
Problems
Cloud Services tools were not available for 25 minutes last week. This was caused by a faulty hardware cable in the data center. [5]
- Last week, styling updates were made to the Vector 2022 skin. This caused unforeseen issues with templates, hatnotes, and images. Changes to templates and hatnotes were reverted. Most issues with images were fixed. If you still see any, report them here. [6]
Changes later this week
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 18 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 19 June. It will be on all wikis from 20 June (calendar). [7][8]
- Starting June 18, the Reference Edit Check will be deployed to a new set of Wikipedias. This feature is intended to help newcomers and to assist edit-patrollers by inviting people who are adding new content to a Wikipedia article to add a citation when they do not do so themselves. During a test at 11 wikis, the number of citations added more than doubled when Reference Check was shown to people. Reference Check is community configurable. [9]
- Mailing lists will be unavailable for roughly two hours on Tuesday 10:00–12:00 UTC. This is to enable migration to a new server and upgrade its software. [10]

Review[edit]
Hi Cocobb8,
I just wanted to say thank you for looking into and contributing edits to my first page I created: Draft:Mark Kotter I welcome any recommendations on what needs to be improved so that article would pass next review and get published. Thank you for helping.
Kind regards,
Damjana Damjana12 (talk) 21:13, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Damjana12! Thanks for reaching out for improving the draft
.I've taken a look at the draft, and have a few comments:
- The picture you uploaded is listed as "own work". I would assume you are the person who this draft is about? If so, note that you must disclose that as it constitutes a conflict-of-interest. Instructions on how to do so here.
- The first time the person is mentioned, they full name should be used, which is what you did. The times after that, they should only be referred to by their last name. A complete guide on how that works here.
- Section titles should be capitalized (only the first letter)
- Use citations to your own publishings sparingly, per WP:SELFCITING.
- Try to keep the sources to those that show independent, secondary, significant coverage (i.e. reliable sources) of yourself, as this will help demonstrating that you are notable (by Wikipedia's standards). Though, you will see that there are alternative criteria there, but sources are the best way to demonstrate notability.
- Other tidbits about autobiographies can be found here.Let me know if you have any other questions; I'd be glad to help!Cheers, Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 13:12, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Cocobb8,
- Thank you so much for helping, your feedback and links to resources. Will look at it now and try to further improve. This is my first article so I'm still learning but it is very interesting and I would like to contribute more in the future once I get the basics right with this one. I took the picture myself after a conference on networking event, Mark had an interesting talk there and I thought to build a page about the interesting work he has been doing.
- Many thanks,
- Damjana Damjana12 (talk) 19:10, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Damjana12, thanks for clarifying! If you do not know them personally, that would not constitute a conflict of interest, so no need to disclose it. Let me know if you encounter issues or have other questions as you work on the draft. Cheers, Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 19:24, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you again I've read the links and went to edit what you recommended, I appreciate your support on this. Damjana12 (talk) 20:11, 19 June 2024 (UTC)

WP:Articles for deletion/Chumbak TV closing statement[edit]
Hi. When you closed WP:Articles for deletion/Chumbak TV, you wrote It is always better to redirect rather than delete per WP:ATD.
diff That is not faithful to WP:Deletion policy#Alternatives to deletion as written. The interpretation of ATD is disputed and was last discussed at WT:Deletion policy/Archive 51#Prefatory material on alternatives (October–December 2023). Would you consider removing that sentence from your closing statement? Flatscan (talk) 04:29, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hey @Flatscan, thanks for pointing this out, I have modified my closing statement and will be careful with similar closings in the future
.Cheers! Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 13:16, 19 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from Mathemagicians (06:00, 19 June 2024)[edit]
Hello How do I edit already entered information which is not up to date and underwent a change in the last few days --Mathemagicians (talk) 06:00, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Mathemagicians, what page would this be about, and what specifically needs to be updated? You should be able to edit the page yourself (unless it has some kind of protection). Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 13:17, 19 June 2024 (UTC)
Help with references[edit]
Hey, you declined my article submission for "The Wind (South Korean band)", and I was wonder if you could help me with references? You said you'd like to see a reduction in Twitter as a source (understandable) but I couldn't find more reliable sources for the places where I referenced Twitter. One of the member reveals seems to have been reported on by a news site (I have added this to the draft article), but not the others. Also, An Chanwon coming back from hiatus was not reported on anywhere, and it was only semi-confirmed by him being included in posts on the group's socials (he has since performed with the group so he is definitely back). What do you suggest I do to fix this and bring the article up to standard? Octoflops (talk) 13:35, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- Oops, should mention that here's the link to the draft: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wind_(South_Korean_band) Octoflops (talk) 13:39, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- Wait never mind sorry it's not a draft anymore, feel free to ignore this message! Octoflops (talk) 13:41, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- No worries, @Octoflops
. The draft was on a really good way, and the reason why I declined it was quite a minor thought. I should probably have accepted it and tagged it for improvements later on, but it has been already published in the mainspace. Cheers! Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 14:31, 22 June 2024 (UTC)

Tech News: 2024-26[edit]
Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- Editors will notice that there have been some changes to the background color of text in the diff view, and the color of the byte-change numbers, last week. These changes are intended to make text more readable in both light mode and dark mode, and are part of a larger effort to increase accessibility. You can share your comments or questions on the project talkpage. [11]
- The text colors that are used for visited-links, hovered-links, and active-links, were also slightly changed last week to improve their accessibility in both light mode and dark mode. [12]
Problems
- You can copy permanent links to talk page comments by clicking on a comment's timestamp. This feature did not always work when the topic title was very long and the link was used as a wikitext link. This has been fixed. Thanks to Lofhi for submitting the bug. [13]
Changes later this week
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 25 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 26 June. It will be on all wikis from 27 June (calendar). [14][15]
- Starting 26 June, all talk pages messages' timestamps will become a link at English Wikipedia, making this feature available for you to use at all wikis. This link is a permanent link to the comment. It allows users to find the comment they were linked to, even if this comment has since been moved elsewhere. You can read more about this feature on Diff or on Mediawiki.org. [16]

Hello, Would like to add photos to my Great Uncles site. How do I do that? --Yiayia42 (talk) 10:33, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Yiayia42, what article is that for? See this guide for how to add pictures. You must be the copyright owner of the photos you wish to add! Cheers, Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 12:55, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thomas Xenakis Olympic Gymnast 1896 modern olympics, my great Uncle..want to add his photo and Olymic Medal to his site..how can I do it? Or can you? Yiayia42 (talk) 09:26, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Yiayia42, please take a look at this guide which explains how to upload pcitures and how to determine copyright of the photo. Then, use this wizard to submit an edit request to the article (as you have just declared you have a conflict of interest with that person, you should not be editing the page directly yourself). In that edit request, say something like "I am requesting that the following image be added to his infobox" (which would place the image in the appropriate location).Hopefully that answers your question, Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 12:10, 28 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from Mummifiedman1234 (15:14, 28 June 2024)[edit]
Hello, I have edited before but tell me if I do anything wrong please. Also, i am making a page on mummification bondage, can you tell me what specifically is wrong with it? They keep rejecting for citing, but I have added 9 citations with what seems to be credible sources. --Mummifiedman1234 (talk) 15:14, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Mummifiedman1234! The issue with your draft is that it relies on some sources that are considered unreliable for use as a Wikipedia citation (see WP:NPPSG for some listing of the reliability of publishers. You'll also find a list of those that are considered reliable there too). Let me know if you have other questions, Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 15:39, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
Question from Mummifiedman1234 (16:18, 28 June 2024)[edit]
Well the topic I am covering is not really covered by big news companies that are considered reliable, but I know a lot about the topic, I have experienced it before. How should I fix it? --Mummifiedman1234 (talk) 16:18, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Mummifiedman1234, the issue with "knowing a lot about what I'm talking about" is that it is considered original research, which is not allowed by any means on Wikipedia. What you are writing about must always be referenced to reliable, published sources. Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 14:00, 29 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from Mummifiedman1234 (14:45, 29 June 2024)[edit]
Ok, can you check the article to see if it would work? --Mummifiedman1234 (talk) 14:45, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Mummifiedman1234, I'll leave it up to another reviewer to review the draft since I was providing you feedback earlier. Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 14:58, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
Tech News: 2024-27[edit]
Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- Over the next three weeks, dark mode will become available for all users, both logged-in and logged-out, starting with the mobile web version. This fulfils one of the top-requested community wishes, and improves low-contrast reading and usage in low-light settings. As part of these changes, dark mode will also work on User-pages and Portals. There is more information in the latest Web team update. [17]
- Logged-in users can now set global preferences for the text-size and dark-mode, thanks to a combined effort across Foundation teams. This allows Wikimedians using multiple wikis to set up a consistent reading experience easily, for example by switching between light and dark mode only once for all wikis. [18]
- If you use a very old web browser some features might not work on the Wikimedia wikis. This affects Internet Explorer 11 and versions of Chrome, Firefox and Safari older than 2016. This change makes it possible to use new CSS features and to send less code to all readers. [19][20]
- Wikipedia Admins can customize local wiki configuration options easily using Community Configuration. Community Configuration was created to allow communities to customize how some features work, because each language wiki has unique needs. At the moment, admins can configure Growth features on their home wikis, in order to better recruit and retain new editors. More options will be provided in the coming months. [21]
- Editors interested in language issues that are related to Unicode standards, can now discuss those topics at a new conversation space in MediaWiki.org. The Wikimedia Foundation is now a member of the Unicode Consortium, and the coordination group can collaboratively review the issues discussed and, where appropriate, bring them to the attention of the Unicode Consortium.
- One new wiki has been created: a Wikipedia in Mandailing (
w:btm:
) [22]
Problems
- Editors can once again click on links within the visual editor's citation-preview, thanks to a bug fix by the Editing Team. [23]
Future changes
- Please help us to improve Tech News by taking this short survey. The goal is to better meet the needs of the various types of people who read Tech News. The survey will be open for 2 weeks. The survey is covered by this privacy statement. Some translations are available.
