Languages of <Country> templates
[edit]Hi Iketsi, and welcome to Wikipedia. I have initiated a debate at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Languages regarding the Languages of <Country> templates which you have been working on. These templates may or may not be useful so it would be good to hear your views on this (I assume you believe them to be very useful :-) ). Thanks — Amakuru (talk) 11:15, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Question
[edit]Hi Iketsi,
May I ask you, what is your native language? --Jose77 (talk) 07:11, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
- Because I have some texts which require translation help from native speakers, but first I need to know which native language you speak. --Jose77 (talk) 04:17, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
The article Flags of stateless nations has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- This article is essentially an image gallery with almost no text content, with original POV judgements about which "nations" should deserve states.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Quigley (talk) 21:55, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

University presses
[edit]Hi, thanks for creating all those categories! A few remarks, though. University presses often publish much more than just books (such as magazines and academic journals), so they should be categorized as "publishing companies", not "book publishing companies". Also, because "university presses of XXX" are all categorized as "university presses" and as "publishing companies of XXX", those categories should be removed from articles on a university press if you add the "university press of XXX" cat to them. Hope this helps and continue the good work! Happy editing! --Randykitty (talk) 10:19, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
- Two more things: some of the cats you created are empty. That's a bit a waste of time and effort, as empty cats are routinely deleted after a few days. Also, some cats have been categorized to non-existent cats ("redlinks"). While redlinks in articles are OK (and even recommended in many cases), they are a no-no for categories, so either you should create those categories or not add them. Cheers! --Randykitty (talk) 10:23, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
- I also note that you added some of these university press categories to companies that are not university presses, but normal academic presses. Could you please have a look at what exactly a university press is and then remove the categories where they are not appropriate? Thanks! --Randykitty (talk) 10:36, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

I appreciate your calm participation in this discussion. I am not sure we disagree much. I find the article interesting and definitely worth preserving, just don't think it qualifies for mainspace. It seems to be one of those topics that Wikipedians find fascinating and anyone else finds utterly obscure, hence the lack of external coverage. I prefer to be rule-bound with AfD: keep if there is enough independent coverage and delete otherwise. I am obviously in the minority. Thanks, Aymatth2 (talk) 13:48, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

Formatting and math formulae
[edit]I had to partially undo this edit of yours, which broke valid LaTeX formatting within <math> tags. Your script
[edit]Hello Iketsi. As pointed out in the post above, you have to be careful when using your script. For example, in this edit to Estonia, you changed the hyphen in this file name to a dash, thus creating a red link to a nonexistent file. I'm not going to go through all of your changes manually, I'll leave that for you to do properly. Jared Preston (talk) 20:06, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
- Per above, I will fix my changes and be more careful. --Iketsi (talk) 20:15, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Changing file names in a script
[edit]I see this has been mentioned above, but could I just reiterate it, and ask you to be more careful, and to ensure this does not happen? At Universe, with this edit, your script broke the filename File:Multiverse - level II.svg, replacing the image in the article with a redlink. Nobody has corrected it until today, 3 weeks later, because I just happened to be reading the article and noticed it was missing. So as a result of that edit the image was missing from the article for everyone who read it in the interim. Editing with scripts is fine, but you have the responsibility to notice, and fix, errors made by your script, especially when a preview before saving would show the obvious problem of a missing image with a broken link. If you made any other edits like this around that time, please check them for accuracy. Thanks. Begoon talk 09:18, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

Daig (Switzerland)
[edit]Dear Iketsi, it's by no means my intent to start an editwar or whatever that is called, but I'm truly at a loss as to why an article concerning the history of Basel, Switzerland should not be in the Category Switzerland. If you'd be so kind and explain your rationale for removing it from that category. Thank you very much in advance. -- Hisredrighthand ⚔Tally-ho!⚔ 16:46, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
- Dear Hisredrighthand, if you look inside Category:Switzerland, you'll notice that it contains only 2 or 3 pages and several general subcategories. The reason is that categories for any page on Wikipedia should be as narrow as possible. These categories are in turn categorized into broader categories and so on. The article Daig (Switzerland) is not about Switzerland; it's not really about Basel either: it's about Culture in Basel or about a cultural property of national significance in Basel-Stadt. I suggest getting acquainted with Wikipedia's guidelines on subcategorization. If you need help or have other questions, I'll be glad to help. —Iketsi (talk) 22:55, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

Your edit on Wikipedia page
[edit]Hi Iketsi, Your recent edit on the Wikipedia page for Autodating caught my attention. This list was not Autodated by the previous editor because its date was linked to the manually maintained chart version of these stats appearing right next to it in the "Wikipedia" section which you edited (currently Feb 2014). That previous editor was not able to figure out how to automatically update the chart and therefore the narrative version which you edited was left with manual dates and not autodating. If you are planning to do more edits there and bring in auto-updating to the chart as well, then that's all fine. Otherwise the autodating will be misinforming readers of the "current" version of these statistics which are presently from Feb 2014, and not from July 2014 as it currently prints out. Let me know if you have figured out how to do the auto-updating of the graphs. LawrencePrincipe (talk) 19:26, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
- Done. Thanks for the heads-up! —Iketsi (talk) 04:01, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Iketsi, That edit looks really good! I noticed that another editor had a similar Autodated situation on the same Wikipedia page in the section dealing with Quality control. In that section, the dating problem between the graphs (manual) and the chart (automatic) is even more emphasized since the date in the graphs is from last year winter 2013 while the chart is today's date (summer 2014). If its a straightforward fix maybe you could take a glance. Cheers. LawrencePrincipe (talk) 19:34, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hmm... That will be a lot trickier, but I'll see what I can do. —Iketsi (talk) 00:54, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Daily newspapers by language
[edit]A tag has been placed on Category:Daily newspapers by language requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. [edit]Categories
[edit]If you are going to create categories such as Category:Disc golf courses in Alabama, please be aware of WP:REDNOT that says you must never add red-linked categories to any page. You must either create the target category (Category:Disc golf in Alabama in this case) or not add the link. And more generally, remember that categories should be WP:Defining. It's not enough that a park or whatever has a disc golf course, it has to be "known" for disc golf. Compare with Central Park which has baseball courts, tennis courts etc but it's not categorised as a baseball venue or a tennis venue as they're not what it's known for.Le Deluge (talk) 10:31, 3 January 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks. I just added the red links I missed yesterday. I see what you mean by WP:Defining, but I can assure you that they are very much defining for the disc golf community. Most disc golf courses are located in shared spaces such as public parks and tourist areas. Central Park may not be the best example, because it achieved world fame as an urban park first and foremost and its constituent fields and venues are overshadowed by the park's iconic status. See Memorial Park, Houston, which is categorized under Category:Golf clubs and courses in Texas and Category:Softball venues in Houston. Granted, the most notable disc golf courses should ideally have their own articles, but in the meantime, there is no harm in categorizing parks with disc golf courses as disc golf venues, particularly given their relative rarity compared to baseball or tennis courts. - Iketsi (talk) 01:26, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Parked (website), should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Parked (website).
You might like to note that such discussions usually run for seven days and are not ballot-polls. And, our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Sulfurboy}}

Speedy deletion nomination of Parked (disambiguation)
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Parked (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either
- disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
- disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
- is a redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Request for comments (Newsbeuter)
[edit]Hello. Thank you for creating the Newsbeuter article!
Are you able to assist in resolving a dispute concerning the article?
GJM (talk) 18:56, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
The article Tomb (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Not a helpful dab page, as it only has two entries (see WP:TWODABS).
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. (t · c) buidhe 05:40, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

±== Transclusion of nonexistent templates in your interwiki sandbox ==
I was going through Wikipedia:Database reports/Transclusions of non-existent templates today, and noticed that one of your sandbice includes a lot of transclusions of redlinked templates. To wit: {{Daton}}, {{EkajIFA}}, {{IFA}}, {{Naskiĝdato}}, {{Prononco}}, and {{Ros.}}
This isn't a big deal or anything, and it looks like you're currently working on that page, but if you get the opportunity, it might be helpful to replace those with local templates, wrap them with <nowiki> tags, or put them as {{tl}} invocations. jp×g 20:48, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- @JPxG: Understandable. They are verbatim copies of bio one-liners from other Wikipedias. I'm active on multiple wikis, and I can't remember every formatting detail for every language after a few months, so I am working on a comparative table. The first half of that page is pretty messy right now, but I'll iron things out in due course. --Iketsi (talk) 21:43, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, I just saw it in the database report and figured you might benefit from knowing. I don't even know if anyone cares, but it's something to think about. jp×g 21:44, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

The article BNPS has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
All of these are redlinks except BNP Paribas, for which I can't find evidence that it is commonly abbreviated "BNPS". See WP:Disambiguation, redlinks should only be used on dab pages when there's a blue link that discusses the topic.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
