Mooonswimmer, I've noticed that quite a few of you deletion nominations over the last few weeks have been of articles created by Rathfelder. Is this just a strange coincidence or is there a reason for this? Phil Bridger (talk) 21:13, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hello @Phil Bridger, no specific reason. I'm trying to become more active on AfD. No particular interest in the subject matter, and nothing at all against @Rathfelder.
- Today's focus of mine was non-notable comic book publishing companies, and I nominated at least a dozen articles on comic publishers for deletion. I wouldn't be surprised if a few of these were created by the same editor, but it's nothing personal. I often don't pay much attention to who created an article. Considering you're someone very active in deletion discussions, I'd be immensefully grateful if you could lend me your opinion regarding the aforementioned nominations to know if I'm on the right track when it comes to gauging notability and encyclopedic value.
- On the other hand, I also nominated an article regarding a restaurant for deletion after spending quite some time reading Wikipedia talkpages regarding notability and restaurants. I have just noticed the creator of the article is an extremely accomplished and reputable contributor, and I was wondering if my nomination is unwarranted and improper. I'd be interested in hearing what you'd have to say regarding what makes a restaurant notable, as well as what you think in this specific case. Thank you for your time. Mooonswimmer 21:34, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
- Mooonswimmer, I would ask you to not nominate articles for deletion if you're 1) not completing source assessments prior to nominating and/or 2) not familiar with notability criteria. I know you mean well, but "rescuing" articles during AfD feels like an uphill battle, so expressing your concerns by placing a tag or posting a note on a talk page is sometimes a helpful alternative. Thanks and happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:38, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
Paid jobs
[edit]Hi Mooonswimmer. Thanks for adding this section, but I fear this is incomplete. Per WP:PAID, you've to link to all the marketplaces where you advertise. I can see you have accepted five jobs on Upwork and have participated in a few AfDs for pay. I suggest you to follow User:Bleff userpage as an example and at least link to Upwork profile. I hope you can do this yourself or I would be sending the link to Arbcom and this may result in an indefinite block. Also, WP:COI should use WP:AfC process for new articles and for edting use talkpage to place Wikipedia:Edit requests. Thank you. 108.197.34.118 (talk) 08:07, 6 January 2023 (UTC)

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution (second request)
[edit] Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Avera Mengistu into Gag order. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution
. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 23:05, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hello @Diannaa,
- It slipped my mind this time, my apologies. I included an attribution in the subsequent summary once I had realized my mistake. What do we consider to be extensive copying? Would the paragraph I copied be considered as such? Also, I tried adding the {copied} template, but I'm confused at how to fill in the "from_oldid" field. Thank you! Mooonswimmer 00:07, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry, I missed the attribution edit summary! But your question about the attribution template is a good one. For a single parapgraph, I wouldn't feel the copied template is necessary. Here's an example of a filled-out copied template (notice that this example is a streamlined version that does not include the from_oldid field):
{{Copied |from = Machiavellianism |to = Machiavellianism scale |to_diff = 915516903 |date = September 13, 2019 }}
This gives the following result:
Text and/or other creative content from Machiavellianism was copied or moved into Machiavellianism scale with this edit on September 13, 2019. The former page's history now serves to provide attribution for that content in the latter page, and it must not be deleted as long as the latter page exists. |
For the Gag order edit the to_diff number would be 1134052407. If using the oldid field, it's the version number of the revision from which you obtained the text. In case you don't know, the diff number is obtained from the url of the edit where you added the content to the destination article. For more info on diffs, please see help:Diff. — Diannaa (talk) 00:32, 18 January 2023 (UTC)

NPOV issues on Israeli settlement
[edit]Hi Mooonswimmer -- sorry if I'm not going about this the right way, I'm pretty new to editing Wikipedia beyond minor stuff. Right now, the lede of Israeli settlement reads, "Israeli settlements, or Israeli colonies". This appears to me (and others) as an NPOV violation. However, as you can see from the talk page, there are some users who are adamant on keeping it. I can summarize the arguments for you if you want, but I think the issue needs another set of more neutral eyes. Maybe it's appropriate to escalate this to mediation, but I'm not sure this is right for that -- especially because I'm not even an established-enough editor to make the change (removing "or Israeli colonies", perhaps replacing it with a line later in the article regarding the fact that some consider the settlements to be such, and perhaps adding the Hebrew term התנחלות). So, I thought I would reach out to another editor. I found you through the Israel-Palestine Collaboration WikiProject. Peaux (talk) 04:15, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Hi! With this edit you seem to have added a large-scale copy-paste copyvio from this source, that version archived on 25 October 2021. Is there some reason or explanation I'm not seeing which might make somehow that OK? Anyway, I've reverted your edits, for now at least. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:35, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hello @Justlettersandnumbers
- My bad, I should've made an attribution in my edit summary, but it slipped my mind. I copy-pasted the paragraphs from Yasir Al-Rumayyan, since I believed they were more suited for the PIF article than his biography.
- It seems as if the content in the source was copy-pasted from Wikipedia, rather than vice-versa. The articled you linked was published in October 2021, but the paragraphs I copy-pasted were already in the Yasir Al-Rumayyan article months before that.
- Mooonswimmer 22:00, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- OK, I see that now – I didn't look at your other recent contributions before. Yes, do please make a point of providing attribution in cases like this, it saves time all round. I'll undelete those revisions, but leave it to you to reinstate the material with a suitable edit summary. I'm relieved to find that there actually is a reasonable explanation this time! Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 22:05, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
- My sincere apologies, I often only remember I have to provide attribution right as I publish my edit. I've been working on it. Thanks for your vigilance.
- Regarding my edit in the article's lead section, was that reverted due to the copyright vio concern or for another reason? Mooonswimmer 22:09, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Ajnad al-Khilafah
[edit]Hello Mooonswimmer,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Ajnad al-Khilafah for deletion, because it's a redirect that seems implausible or is an unlikely search term.
If you don't want Ajnad al-Khilafah to be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!
